Is America racist? [Darleen Click]

I think when the question is posed “Is America Racist” it implies systemic or institutionalized racism. I think the answer is no. Racism exists. But there is no systemic or institutional racism. I think the vast majority of Americans disdain, vigorously, examples of racism.

Part of it stems from changing attitudes, part from the over-use of the pejorative, racist! No one wants to be seen as racist, and unfortunately in a few situations, going well the other direction to ‘avoid all appearances of racism’.

    BTW, Happy New Year everyone!

Yes, and becoming more so every day.

It’s so bad (and so sad) already that a black actor from now on will never know if their Oscar was won for their acting, or their shade of skin.

Actually, I think LBascom is right….their actions are as destructive, maybe more so, than affirmative action was.

    Greetings:

I see it as a Princess and the Pea phenomenon. There will never be enough mattresses when it comes to ameliorating the racism pea. America has established a reward system for claims of racism and has provided adequate enough recompense to ensure that it will never reach an expiration date. There is nothing feasible that can be done to mollify the situation in light of the efforts and interests of the sociological groups, leviathan government, mainstream media, and the compassionate darlings of all those progressive non-profits and NGOs.

Perhaps more simply, as B.F. Skinner put it “Rewarded behavior tends to be repeated.” Or, if you prefer, as Eric Hoffer put it, “What starts as a cause, becomes a business, and ends up as a racket.”

  8. McGehee says:

The people who believe America is racist would probably believe that a plate of cole slaw is racist, and for pretty much the same reason. The real question is, why are we expected to care what such ridiculous people believe?

  10. bgbear says:

It looks that way to people who use terms like “acting white”.

  12. Danger says:

The best example of institutionalized racism (and it’s sister sexism) in America is the Democratic party. They use charges of racism/sexism (along with welfare payoffs) as integral parts of their playbook.

  13. LBascom says:

Racism has become so broadly defined it can mean anything and so means nothing. Probably the closest definition anymore resembles how stereotyping would be defined for the average person.

The only real racism in 2016 America in an institutionalised way is against white people. This is evident in the whole idea that whites are disproportionately represented in…well pretty much everything, so then the effort is to increase (and therefore decrease whites) minorities in…well pretty much everything , including the population of the country as a whole.

Can you imagine the outrage if it was declared Africa is too black, so we need a systematic effort to import as many European whites as possible in the interests of social justice?

That is exactly what is happening to America and all her institutions in reverse. Straight up racism.

It ain’t about racism, it’s about black privilege.

Is there a non-metrosexual white guy still left breathing?

    Then, yes.

This is only very slightly off-topic. Of interest to anyone following the @Nero kerfuffle or the fascistic illiberal enforcement of identity politics in general.
