Universities & the worship of the Holy Victim [Darleen Click]

I can’t think of a place more dedicated to the abuse of young people than the modern university

Students at the University of East Anglia were given free sombreros by a local Tex-Mex restaurant – but had them taken away at Freshers’ Fair.

Killjoy university chiefs have banned students from getting free sombreros – claiming they’re ‘racist’.

Students were being given free sombreros by a local Tex-Mex restaurant in a bid to drum up business , before uni chiefs ordered them to stop – because it violates strict cultural appropriation rules.

The University of East Anglia student union officials even took the big floppy hats from students at the Freshers’ Fair, because non-Mexicans wearing the traditional item of headwear could be seen as offensive, according to a new initiative.

Campaigns and Democracy officer Chris Jarvis said: “We know that when it comes to cultural appropriation the issues can sometimes be difficult to understand and many don’t realise that they may be about to cause offence or break a policy.

“So we’re discussing internally how we can improve our briefing to both external organisations and our own members so that people aren’t caught out at the last minute.”

He added: “At the Student Union we want all members feel safe and accepted, so at all events we try to ensure that there is no behaviour, language or imagery which could be considered racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or ableist.”

No word yet if they will allow Asian restaurants to give chop sticks to non-Asian customers.

In an obsessive rush to invent victims to champion, the Associated Students of Pomona College (ASPC) voted against a Harvey Mudd (the science college of the 5 Claremont Colleges) Party because of the ‘mad scientist’ theme which is, naturally, offensive

ASPC voted against funding a 5C party called “Mudd Goes Madd” due to the name’s trivialization of mental health issues. The event description on Facebook states:

“Join your favorite Madd scientists as we get down and dirty with paint for North’s first 5C party of the year! Get covered in gallons of fluorescent (but washable!) paint on September 26th at North Dorm!” […]

ASPC President Nico Kass (PO ’16) also released a statement to justify ASPC’s opposition to funding Mudd Goes Madd:

“On behalf of ASPC Senate, I would like to explain the rationale behind our decision to not fund this event. Most importantly, not only do we believe the name trivializes mental health and disability issues, but despite students’ repeated expression of hurt due to the party name in the past, the event organizers decided to exclude them from the conversation and dismiss their concerns as unimportant.”

ASPC’s precaution against using the term “Madd” in order to protect students with mental health issues did not resonate well with students, including those with mental illnesses. Some of these students expressed concerns that ASPC was patronizing them. “As a guy on the autism spectrum,” responded Daniel Ludlam (CMC ’18), “ASPC’s reasoning is less than helpful. ASD is a very serious issue, but treating me like I’m five years old and trying to protect me from every possible trigger doesn’t prepare me for the real world.”

Social Justice Warriors need victims, preferably quiet and compliant ones. I’m sure Daniel will get a visit from the local Diana Moon Glampers to question his authenticity.

  2. You know, McGehee, I’ve been re-reading The Gulag Archipelago and one group targeted for arrest, torture, and execution by the Soviets was the Esperanto Speakers – one of the very few things the Bolshes got right.

I looked all over Google Translate’s list of languages for one indigenous to North America. If they had one, I didn’t recognize the name.

It would have been fun to see what PW’s default character encoding would have done with the letters of the Cherokee alphabet.

Was watching the Bronkos beat up on the Lions Sunday, I saw the NFL is celebrating Hispanic Pride Month. I’m deeply offended, but they don’t care.

I won’t be holding my breath for White Pride Month. A guy could die that way…

    Greetings:

And like one of those déja vus all over again (RIP Yogi), this just in from my Department of Redunancy Department. You see, what we’re dealing with here is a failure to communicate (RIP Paul) on the part of these individuals’ parents. If they had only taught them about Chicken Little (of “The sky is falling.” fame) or that cute little Princess who was so victimized by that racist, imperialist, colonialist, homophobic Pea that all the mattresses in her kingdom’s homeless encampments couldn’t protect her good night’s sleep, they’d have realized what a mental teacup they were entrapping themselves in.

But, noooo. It’s all “Mommy, Daddy, everyone, look at me.”

When I was a little kid the worst thing anyone could call you was “crybaby.” Now it’s a music genre.

My solution for fixing a lot of this nonsense is to get universities out of the “credentialism” racket for job applicants by coming up with alternatives to the college degree as a prerequisite for employment.

For example, replacing it with a system of independent testing and certification for career tracks, allowing people to pursue alternate courses of study such as self-study, apprenticeships, specialist trade schools, and so forth.

Speaking of holy victims, don’t watch this video of a baby boy being aborted, from the moment his head emerges from the canal until he finally stops moving in the steel bowl. The rest is the afterbirth coming out and nobody needs to see that.

  15. The whole notion of “cultural appropriation” being some sort of mortal sin is weapons grade stupidity. Cultures — all of them since forever — have appropriated stuff from other cultures.

    Liberals are dopes.
