Motherhood echoes [Darleen Click]

It was in the mid-80s today in SoCal … mornings and evenings are cooling into high 40s, so everyone’s windows are open to catch the breeze.

The neighbors have a four-month old baby whose room is opposite our master bedroom. I think the baby is teething and he has a real good set of lungs.

And, damn, if at the first cry I’m not sitting up at my desk with an almost irresistible urge to go find, comfort and rock the baby.

Hardwired.

You, like all females in the history of the universe, since the first asexual blob crawled out of the primordial ooze, are most definitely not “hardwired.” You have been successfully socially constructed at the behest of the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent “Patriarchy.”

Good to see we’ve been so successful. At the next meeting (Wednesday, the VFW hall in Benkelman, Nebraska at 7:00 PM. BYOB), we’ll scratch your name off the list for further indoctrination.
