that’s probably the number one best way not to get eated by a bear

  2. epador says:

I have no idea why my daughter wants to weld underwater when she could do this instead.

  3. Dave J says:

I am definitely not down the that up there…or even 1/64th of the way up there.
How much $ do you guess those guys make /hr. ?

  4. Dave J says:

“down with”…sheesh shook me up so much I couldnt type there for a bit….

  5. Doesn’t he know smoking is dangerous?

  6. sdferr says:

West, East (click images for biggitude)

  7. McGehee says:

Why aren’t they wearing flotation vests? What if there’s a flood??

  8. Blake says:

Charles, that thought crossed my mind also.

I have to admit, I thought it was pretty funny, the guy casually smoking a cig while clinging to the side of an antenna.

  9. ironpacker says:

Those guys are probably Ironworkers out of Local 1 in Chicago. Proud to say I worked over 30 years in the same trade. However I never did anything quite that high on the ” Sphincter Scale” though.

I have the utmost respect for the work you guys do… cuz I never could. :::shiver:::

heck, I’m sitting in my chair watching this vid, gripping the chair arms and yelling at the monitor “Holy Mary Mother of God, look where his FOOT is!!”

  11. ironpacker says:

Darleen, I have to admit that there were times on the job I was scared spitless. My respect goes to the Ironworkers before me who did the same work without all the safety requirements of today.

  12. Blake says:

Darleen, you should check out the “High Roller” observation wheel at the Flamingo, Las Vegas. It’s very cool, but, you only go about 500 feet in the air. Great view of Las Vegas, though. An alcoholic beverage is included in the ticket price.

  13. Rich Fader says:

Dear God, no. I mean, I’ve flown commercial, but I get nervous walking around in the open on a single-story roof. Going up Big John and taking the antenna off, even with a safety harness and whatever? Nope. Forget that.

epador- a friend of mine back in New York was an underwater welder. He made big bucks.
Takes a special kind of person to do what the guys in the video do.

  15. Steve B says:

That takes a special kind of crazy.

  16. Blake, back in 2004, me and Mrs. B [that could be a song] decided to go to the top of that Eiffel Tower replica in Crapsville to get a view of the town. Even with several drinks in us, we got out of the elevator, went to the edge of the cage, and immediately put our backs against the interior wall.

We made our way, gripping said saving wall, 180 degrees around to the down elevator entrance, and took it right back down to the nearest bar.

I felt like such a wuss and my Father was laughing his old arse off because he used to climb radio station towers to change the red bulbs, and loved it.

Harvey Mansfield giving us an indication why that bleeding-eye height is there to be disassembled in the first instance — as well as, perhaps, why that’s just some guy doing the job.
