I think this particular incident folds in rather well with the extended discussion on post-modernism, and the extension of the discussion to who can say what without being “racist” (e.g. the Bill Bennett incident) or “sexist” (you know who). Which, BTW, has been a fascinating discussion. I learned a lot about pomo stuff. I think I almost have a handle on it now.
The picture and text at the link represent a fascinating development, but not one that’s particularly suprising. The left seems to enjoy having these little train wrecks from time to time.
Oooh, but the poster is black, so he can get away with accusing people of betraying their race.
I’d call the poster an ignorant jackass, but that would be racist, wouldn’t it? Could I get a black person to do it for me? You know, if doesn’t mind betraying his race.
See, you gotta be like Fisher DeBerry and say something truly outrageous like this:
“It’s very obvious to me the other day that the other team had a lot more Afro-American players than we did, and they ran a lot faster than we did. It just seems to be that way, that Afro-American kids can run very, very well. That doesn’t mean that Caucasian kids and other descents can’t run, but it’s very obvious to me they run extremely well. Their defense had 11 Afro-American kids on their team, and they were a very, very good defensive football team. That’s exactly what I was talking about.”
Though the academy itself recruits minorities, DeBerry’s comments could be construed as controversial because they seem to equate race with athletic ability.
Asked if he believed it was wrong to make such comments, DeBerry said:
“Do I believe it’s wrong? I just want to recruit speed. We need to find speed as much as anything. The black athlete seems to have, statistically, program to program to program, seems to have an edge as far as the speed is concerned. That’s got nothing to do with anything except ability”
I mean just look at the Olympic podium after the last few 100m dash and you will see how absurd such a statement is.
Gotta save that posting as a webarchive and point to it the next time a “progressive” earnestly asks why we can’t have an honest conversation about race in America.
Ya know. Its so offensive I’d almost consider recommending Michael Steele’s campaign run TV ads with screen shots of the offensive webpage showing just the depths some Democrats are willing to decend to to defeat him.
I’m afraid I don’t find Mr. Gilliard to be articulate at all. Or even mildly original. Hope that’s not too racist. No, actually, I couldn’t care less what Steve Gilliard thinks is racist, as he’s clearly an idiot.
Among his other accomplishments, Michael Steele attended the Augustinian Friar’s Seminary at Villanova, and I don’t take kindly to punks like Gilliard who insult my fellow Wildcats.
A quick look at Steve’s lightweight CV shows it to be pathetically thin compared to Steele’s – well, let’s be honest: next to just about anyone’s over the age of 20.
So considering the source, my conclusion? What a clueless fucktard this “progressive” is.
That’s putting it mildly. I am always amazed at people who have lived totally linear and uninspired lives commenting about ANYTHING but their mommies. Sounds like this idiot has never even been out of north Jersey.
Yeah. I think I need his cosmopolitan input in my life. I mean, we could all use a Johnny-One-Note racist to tell us how to think…
I’d call the poster an ignorant jackass, but that would be racist, wouldn’t it? Could I get a black person to do it for me? You know, if doesn’t mind betraying his race.
Well, wait a minute… I may not agree with everything in that post or the rhetoric used, but the issue seems to be the fact that Steele said it was a-ok for another politician to hold an event in a racially-restricted venue. It’s not a matter of “identity politics,” or the fact that he’s black and Republican. It’s that he looked racism in the face and went right along with it.
Ok, time to tear me to shreds. I know, lately I’ve been coming here and inviting it. Go.
It’s not a matter of “identity politics,” or the fact that he’s black and Republican.
Quoth Gilliard in the comments to his post: “You know if Black Republican wasn’t a synonym for betrayer of black people we could debate their views. But because it is, we need to call these people out as loudly as possible.”
Query. Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan have had some interesting things to say about Jews over the years. How do you think it would fly if Jeff coughed up a post calling them “ignorant niggers”? Sure, you and I might not agree with the rhetoric used, but after all, they’ve looked racism in the face and went right along with it.
It’s not a matter of “identity politics,†or the fact that he’s black and Republican. It’s that he looked racism in the face and went right along with it.
Uhhhhhh…so that makes it okay to put him in blackface and caption that photo with “I’s Simple Sambo and I’s running for the Big House”?
I can think of several ways to point out what you mentioned without resorting to anything nearly that disgusting, as I’m sure you could, Jill.
“WaPo reports tonight, based on anonymously sourced hearsay, that Harriet Miers once referred to Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele as ‘Sambo.’ If true, it’s a gaffe. But who among us has never made a gaffe? The president makes a few dozen of them every time he opens his mouth. The real question isn’t whether Harriet Miers thinks Mike Steele is a Sambo; it’s whether elitists like Jeff Goldstein, who wouldn’t know a law book if I bounced one off his face, fear a nominee who speaks her mind and the P.C. repercussions be damned. Fortune favors the bold, wrote Virgil. Mr. Goldstein and the rest of the new-media rabble would do well to study Harriet Miers’s boldness and learn from it. A correspondence class in Con Law wouldn’t be a bad idea, either. Perhaps then they might not be so eager to support terrorism.”
Gilliard goes on a tear against black conservatives a few times a week – months ago Jonah Goldberg went after him for an Armstrong Williams post that was full of “massas” and other assorted insults. It’s weird to see so many people pouring into that thread to engage him. He ain’t changing his mind.
But it should be said that Gilliard’s comments and cartoon are probably not offensive to the black people who will actually be voting in that Maryland Senate race. Polls show him getting around 20-25% of the black vote against the white, Jewish Democrat running against him. In other words, 3/4 of blacks have no use for the guy.
Put another way, I doubt many of the people hating on Gilliard via LGF or Malkin links are black Marylanders.
How does one interpret that “liberal plantation†phrase, if not as “the 80-90% of blacks that vote Democratic are dumbasses who think like slaves
You could try interpreting it correctly. That’s another way to do it.
Ok, time to tear me to shreds. I know, lately I’ve been coming here and inviting it. Go.
Jill, sweetie, you’re great. It’s just that we wouldn’t tear you to shreds if you weren’t so WRONG all the time.
Kidding, of course.
… but the issue seems to be the fact that Steele said it was a-ok for another politician to hold an event in a racially-restricted venue…
There’s that bit with racial elements being added in where they were “implied”… Jill, page through the comments. That tidbit’s hardly the point of the story. My ignorant jackass bit came as much from…
You know if Black Republican wasn’t a synonym for betrayer of black people we could debate their views. But because it is, we need to call these people out as loudly as possible.
… as anywhere else.
Query. Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan have had some interesting things to say about Jews over the years. How do you think it would fly if Jeff coughed up a post calling them “ignorant niggers Sure, you and I might not agree with the rhetoric used, but after all, they’ve looked racism in the face and went right along with it.
Wouldn’t fly. Remember, Jews are close enough to white people that you cannot be racist against them. So the “ignorant niggers” line would be grossly, unprovoked racism.
But, in all honesty, Gillard probably gets a pass because he’s black too or some such nonsense. A much more apt comparison would be… well, let’s assume that there is a massive, world-wide plot by nearly every Jewish person to dominate the earth. Then Jeff would hurl… well, I actually have never heard any Jewish ethnic slurs to be honest… but stuff like that against Comedy Central Daily Show host and pretty liberal comic Jon Stewart for betraying his race.
Okay, so it is a tortured analogy. But I’m the type who really wishes Jews controlled the world, so I have my own demons.
A quick look at Steve’s lightweight CV shows it to be pathetically thin compared to Steele’s – well, let’s be honest: next to just about anyone’s over the age of 20.
*Looks at his own resume* … …. *Runs off sobbing uncontrollably.*
Just seeing shite like that makes me want to: a)pistol whip that douchebag Gilliard, and b)take the next black Republican I meet out for a beer. Black GOP’ers have to be some of the bravest people in the American political spectrum, and I look forward to the type of leaders who are coming, and will come from their ranks. It’s easy enough to be conservative among whites, as our color does not impose upon our beliefs (the one true advantage whites have in America), but to be a black conservative and face the sort of hostility they do requires mettle beyond comprehension.
Polls show him getting around 20-25% of the black vote against the white, Jewish Democrat running against him. In other words, 3/4 of blacks have no use for the guy.
My guess is that 25% of black voters voting Republican would be a huge increase over what it normally is (which I’ve heard as 10% or less).
I live in the Resevoir Hill section of Baltimore City. Last year, my choice for city councilperson was between a Democrat and a Green party member. That’s how few Republicans there are around. Ehrlich was able to win the governor’s race in a Democratic state, and he was white. If Steele can pick up a handful of black voters in Maryland, it may be enough to win. That’s why libs like Steve are worried about him.
I’d call the poster an ignorant jackass, but that would be racist, wouldn’t it?
OHNOES, I think you’re allowed to call him an ignorant jackass if you’re a jackass and call people minstrels and the N word if you’re the same color as they- Gilliard said something about “keeping it in the family” in the comments. But what I don’t get is how men can call their women ho’s if they’re not women, or call white people crackers if they’re not pigmentally challenged.
Perhaps logic is beside the point and Gilliard knows he has crack the whip to keep his kind in line. Look who’s the master now.
“I don’t know what their membership is, and guess what? It’s not my business,” Ehrlich said in the radio interview. “It’s a private club, which we rented. I had no idea, and I guess neither did any of the prominent Democrats who held fund-raisers there in the past.”
Well, wait a minute… I may not agree with everything in that post or the rhetoric used, but the issue seems to be the fact that Steele said it was a-ok for another politician to hold an event in a racially-restricted venue. It’s not a matter of “identity politics,†or the fact that he’s black and Republican. It’s that he looked racism in the face and went right along with it.
I breathlessly await Jill’s retraction, and her condemnation of the Democrats’ using Elkridge Club for fundraising. What, they weren’t listed in Gilliard’s post? There’s a word for that … what is it … oh, yeah – hypocrite.
An’ dat ain’t allowed.
Hmmm…, I wonder what he meant by that?
Turing word: really, no really!
I think this particular incident folds in rather well with the extended discussion on post-modernism, and the extension of the discussion to who can say what without being “racist” (e.g. the Bill Bennett incident) or “sexist” (you know who). Jeff said it best.
Oooh, but the poster is black, so he can get away with accusing people of betraying their race.
I’d call the poster an ignorant jackass, but that would be racist, wouldn’t it? Could I get a black person to do it for me? You know, if doesn’t mind betraying his race.
Gives me a sudden burst of nostalgia for those happy days of yore when we were actually shocked by stuff like this.
See, you gotta be like Fisher DeBerry and say something truly outrageous like this:
I mean just look at the Olympic podium after the last few 100m dash and you will see how absurd such a statement is.

Has the Delphi oracle of race in politics, ODub, commented on this yet?
I’m afraid I don’t find Mr. Gilliard to be articulate at all. Or even mildly original.

I don’t see what’s so bad about Gilliard’s post. I mean, it’s not like he called Steele “articulate,” or anything.
“Steve’s lightweight CV…”
That’s putting it mildly. I am always amazed at people who have lived totally linear and uninspired lives commenting about ANYTHING but their mommies. Sounds like this idiot has never even been out of north Jersey.
Yeah. I think I need his cosmopolitan input in my life. I mean, we could all use a Johnny-One-Note racist to tell us how to think…
Progressives just hate it when someone wanders outside of their indentity group’s special interest talking points.

Just says restricted in the post, not racially-restricted. Don’t know the details, but you might wanna duck.^^

I can think of several ways to point out what you mentioned without resorting to anything nearly that disgusting, as I’m sure you could, Jill.
Apropos of nothing, I find myself wondering how Hugh Hewitt would react if Harriet Miers referred to Mike Steele as a “Sambo.”
Let’s wait for the hearings, I think he’d say. Where we can have a full and frank discussion of whether Mike Steele is, in fact, a Sambo.
We owe the president that much.
Oh, and I understand that you said “I may not agree with everything in that post or the rhetoric used,” but Gilliard’s post was pretty fucking vile.
“WaPo reports tonight, based on anonymously sourced hearsay, that Harriet Miers once referred to Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele as ‘Sambo.’ If true, it’s a gaffe. Um, thought that should have been included in the previous post …
Lookie like some uppity darkie done gone an’ shuffled off’n dat ol’ liberal plantation agin’!
How does one interpret that “liberal plantation” phrase, if not as “the 80-90% of blacks that vote Democratic are dumbasses who think like slaves”?
As opposed to the 10% -20% Simple Sambo crowd, you mean…?
You could try interpreting it correctly. That’s another way to do it.

bwah ha ha ha haaaaaa. i really can’t talk, i don’t have the excuse of still being in school. it’s just never enough.

It’s a wonder race obsessed liberals feel the need to spend so much time looking for racists when all they have to do is look in the mirror.
Gillard gone and done good by the white folk at the DNC. He’ll get to sleep in the main house rather than the quaters reserved for the masses.
I’d call the poster an ignorant jackass, but that would be racist, wouldn’t it?

Check out the irony that unfolds as newsblog applauds the courage, COURAGE!!! of Sheryl Swoopes for coming out as a lesbian.
She’s not making her money, shucking and jiving for whitey. She’s shooting the rock.
What courage! She couldn’t possibly be anything but herself.
Steele, on the other hand, is just a house nig.
This really drives Chairman eDog’s point home.
I mean, you would have thought that he said Mr. Steele was resorting to eating dead blacks to survive.
Or something.
Ehrlich on the restricted country club:
Jill on Ehrlich’s use of said club:
I breathlessly await Jill’s retraction, and her condemnation of the Democrats’ using Elkridge Club for fundraising. What, they weren’t listed in Gilliard’s post? There’s a word for that … what is it … oh, yeah – hypocrite.
I miss Sambo’s and am sick of Denny’s. The fact that Sambo’s is making a comeback can only be a good thing in the after party breakfast market.
I’m trying to figure out what Ted Danson has to do with Villanova.
Go ‘cats!
Mmmmm…
Tiger butter.
“Little Black Sambo” was an Indian. At least in the version I’m familiar with.
