Here, Listen to Mike Lee embarrass Karl Rove and then tell me: why do we allow the establishment to control us?

From Hannity’s radio program, the issue being defunding ObamaCare, which of course the brilliant GOP strategists believe is a fool’s errand — while success, evidently, is raising money off of people’s displeasure with it, then using that money to win 1.9% of your races.

But, you know. The Architect!

59 Replies to “Here, Listen to Mike Lee embarrass Karl Rove and then tell me: why do we allow the establishment to control us?”

  1. DarthLevin says:

Rove is suggesting going to court so that a judge can say, “Obama, you don’t have the power to delay ObamaCare for businesses.”

    Really?

So Rove wants to put Team R in the position of requiring the implementation of ObamaCare? And he thinks that’s winning?

  2. dicentra says:

What a loathsome creature is Karl Rove!

He sucked all the air out of the conversation, bogarted the time, refused to retract his straw men from the arguments, refused to yield up his cynical operative assumptions about what ought to be done, and effectively convinced me that he actually wants to keep Obamacare. Why else would he so vehemently agitate for delay, delay, delay? Why else would he call up the spectre of 1995? Why else would he cite “soldiers not getting paid” over and over, even after Mike Lee debunked the premise?

Zeus, that man is a menace. Worse, he’s the rule, not the exception.

  3. dicentra says:

So Rove wants to put Team R in the position of requiring the implementation of ObamaCare? And he thinks that’s winning?

    EXACTLY. +100

Obama knows that overriding the law in a direction that his opponents want puts us over a barrel. What are we going to do?

“No, no, you lawless scoundrel! You put that employer mandate back where it belongs, post haste!”

He couldn’t be giving us a bigger finger if he sat the Goodyear blimp on end.

  4. leigh says:

It’s worse than that, Darth. He and a host of others, have been insisting that the GOP craft an alternative to Obamacare rather than shit-canning the whole thing because it’s an unworkable POS. Just like Medicare and SSI. Karl is no architect. All his ideas are built on foundation of shifting sand. I want to take that whiteboard of his and beat him in the head with it.

Greta was using a similar form of argument the other night regarding Lois Lerner and the IRS stonewalling. She kept insisting “But they’re breaking the law! They’re breaking the law!” Like anyone in the dock cares. Like the president and his AG aren’t laughing all the way to the bank and doing whatever they please while tossing red herrings out to distract the stupid from their schemes.

  5. DarthLevin says:

I wanted to come through the screen every time Rove was bleating, “They’re gonna blaaa-aaa-aa-aa-aame us! They’ll blaaaaa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aame us!”

I’d say Rove and the other Establicans had wilted arugula for testicles, but that would imply they had testicles.

  6. leigh says:

BFD that they’re going to blame us. What else have they got? That’s their default setting.

Someone should pull a Fredo on Karl and take him fishing.

  7. McGehee says:

Lose the House? Why, what a disaster that would be, after all the productive and effective things they’ve done with it since 2010!

I’ve passed kidney stones bigger than John Boehner.

  8. George Orwell says:

How can you silly Visigoths and Teagaggers expect politicians and expert, savvy political analysts to risk their careers on a strategy that might backfire? Do you go around at work, looking for ways to get fired? If Rove backed Mike Lee and lost the fight, how could he continue to keep making paid appearances and consultancy fees?

Of course, Rove already has a rather losing record as a consultant beginning with 2006 and especially 2012, but some failures are more equal than others.

  9. sdferr says:

Of course, Rove already has a rather losing record as a consultant beginning with 2006 and especially 2012, but some failures are more equal than other.

heh. Rove loves losing: after all, it’s gotten him where he is.

  10. George Orwell says:

Just remember, don’t back any controversial measure of a conservative nature if you are a Republican congressman or senator, because everyone hates you and will vote you out of office.

It’s almost like there is no point in being Republican.

  11. George Orwell says:

I remember the good old days when the GOP had both chambers and the White House. The only situation where Rove knows in his deepest gut that real progress for Republicans can be made. We got gems of conservative legislation like No Child Left Behind and Medicare Part D.

    Good times.

  12. Ernst Schreiber says:

That’s like saying there’s no point in being a Washington General, George.

What would the Globe Trotters be without the Generals?

  13. George Orwell says:

Remember how the world was going to come to an end if we didn’t elect Romney, and only a moderate like him could possibly beat Obama? Remember how Rove refused to believe the returns in Ohio?

Guess what, K Street Republicans, you’re going to lose the House someday, no matter what. The world continues. You’ll still be eating ribeyes and serving your rent-seeking clientele.

  14. Ernst Schreiber says:

He and a host of others, have been insisting that the GOP craft an alternative to Obamacare rather than shit-canning the whole thing because it’s an unworkable POS. Just like Medicare and SSI.

Newt Gingrich is the latest on that bandwagon.

I have an alternative for you. It’s called the Free Market.

Now shove that up your fat ass and rotate yourself about vigorously.

  15. sdferr says:

Now shove that up your fat ass and rotate yourself about vigorously.

And try not to bleed on the carpet as you see yourself out, Mr. lawmaker.

  16. William says:

I’m all for a free market. As long as it’s tightly controlled from Washington, of course. And the only allowed outcome is rainbows.

  17. George Orwell says:

I’m all for a free market. As long as it’s tightly controlled from Washington, of course. And the only allowed outcome is rainbows.

    Best managed in five-year plans.

  18. Ernst Schreiber says:

You’ll know the five-year plan is working when Washington announces that the plan’s objectives were realized after only four years.

  19. leigh says:

    Best managed in five-year plans.

Indeed, Comrade. These matters are best left to our Betters™.

  20. Squid says:

So Rove wants to put Team R in the position of requiring the implementation of ObamaCare? And he thinks that’s winning?

If it were put in terms of “making sure the assholes who supported the legislation are forced to feel the pain along with the rest of us,” then I’d bet you could sell it. Not that Rove is half that clever.

  21. McGehee says:

John Boehner has passed kidney stones bigger than Karl Rove.

  22. McGehee says:

    Though, he did cry…

  23. cranky-d says:

It’s always “that time of the month” for Boehner.

  24. cranky-d says:

    Hence, the crying.

  25. cranky-d says:

That big fat fuck Chris Christie should keep his piehole shut.

Then again, I guess he’ll be our next compromise candidate.

  26. George Orwell says:

That big fat fuck Chris Christie should keep his piehole shut. Then again, I guess he’ll be our next compromise candidate.

It’s his turn to lose to Hillary Clinton.

  27. Ernst Schreiber says:

    Missed this earlier:

Republican Congressman: If We Try To Defund Obamacare, We Lose The House Of Representatives

Given that the Rove/Bush half of the establishment is telling us we need to pass immigration reform or lose the House for a generation, and the McCain Grahamnesty half of the establishment is telling us passing immigration reform is going to cost us the House for a generation, but that’s better than losing it for two generations I’d say losing the House is a foregone conclusion no matter what we do.

So maybe we ought to go ahead and do the rights things –kill immigration reform, kill amnesty, empanel a couple of select committees to do some of that oversight Congress is supposed to do–because they’re the right things to do.

Who knows, it might even be crazy enough to work.

  29. BigBangHunter says:

    – This years summer hit: My big fat Chris Christie campaign

  30. cranky-d says:

If the representatives don’t do anything constructive, I will not vote for them again and neither will a lot of other people, and we’ll lose the House of Representatives.

A statement from the Brotherhood called for a nationwide “march of anger” by millions of supporters on Friday after noon prayers.

In a counter move, a loose liberal and leftist coalition, the National Salvation Front, called on Egyptians to protest on Friday against what it said was “obvious terrorism actions” conducted by the Muslim Brotherhood.

    – I thought the Brotherhood grabbing the initiative and burning down a number of Coptic churches and houses was so emblamatic of their righteous protests.

    – Whats a poor Kenyan prince to do?

  32. Ernst Schreiber says:

    Like I said, forgone conclusion.

  33. palaeomerus says:

Liberals have dual processors and we have single processors. I had a liberal kid tell me that of course he believes in free speech but if people won’t shut the fuck up sometimes you need to put them in jail. Two contradictory thoughts in the same brain at the same time. Dual processing. If I tired that my head might catch on fire. Or maybe it ‘s just modulated reflexive counteractive duplexing instead of dual processing.

  34. Rove is an over-rated idiot who got lucky with “The Hated BOOOSH!”

    Enough said about this fool….

  35. Slartibartfast says:

    Larger issues aside:

Why is Rove still getting invited to discuss these things in a public forum?

I am honestly bewildered by this.

  36. Ernst Schreiber says:

Wow, Palaeo. Doublethink! Alive and in person.

    Doubleplusgood baby!

  37. cranky-d says:

I hesitate to call that dual processing, as dual processors are usually better than single processors.

I prefer to believe that their logic units are broken or missing entirely.

  38. I remember the days when it was “Rove, you magnificent bastard!” Good times.

Now I wish he’d just shut up and go sit on a beach somewhere, sipping from something with one of those little umbrellas in it.

  39. cranky-d says:

The “magnificent” part is definitely lacking. I guess “ignorant” might be a good replacement.

  40. Curmudgeon says:

(Newt) and a host of others, have been insisting that the GOP craft an alternative to Obamacare rather than shit-canning the whole thing because it’s an unworkable POS. Just like Medicare and SSI.

Gee Newt, remember 2009-10, when the GOP minority *did* come up with alternative proposals, which were brushed aside by the Obamunist and his minions with the curt reply, “I won”???

From Hispandering to this, Rove is a useless sack of shit.

  41. Curmudgeon says:

Just remember, don’t back any controversial measure of a conservative nature if you are a Republican congressman or senator, because everyone hates you and will vote you out of office.

It’s almost like there is no point in being Republican.

Somewhere, there needs to be made a Giant Monument to the Rule Of Anyway.

Afraid of being called (blank)ist and (blank)ophobic? The Commiecrats will always call you that anyway.
Afraid of being accused of starving children? The Commiecrats will always accuse you of that anyway.
Afraid of being seen as a “warmonger”? The Commiecrats will always see you of that anyway. And they will collaborate with the enemy to boot.

“They’re only going to hate and smear and slander me anyway….” Repeat this until in sinks in.

“I wanted to come through the screen every time Rove was bleating, “They’re gonna blaaa-aaa-aa-aa-aame us! They’ll blaaaaa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aame us!””

In fairness, this does raise a good question. Should the Real Republicans make a brave last stand which they will lose however gallantly, or just step aside and tell all the dumbshits “well, you asked for it…” and let the chips fall where they may?

I do remember the Pickett’s Charge of the Gingrich Rebels in 1995. What has changed for the better? In fact, the Senate has changed for the worst….

And if this question makes me an “evil pragmatist”, so be it. I am disgusted with “winning”!, but I despair at losing all the time.

  45. leigh says:

Could someone start a thread about the NSA getting busted?

  46. DarthLevin says:

If you’re playing checkers and the other guy is playing dodgeball, do “winning” and “losing” mean anything?

The Progressive Dems’ and Establican GOPs’ goals are fundamentally different than ours. We’re discussing whether to move to B6 while Priebus and Reid are winding up for a facesmasher.

OK, define terms. Winning, to me, means (1) thwarting the Commiecrats and (2) achieveing our goals, namely, moving the country in a more free direction.

The Establican RINOs will sit on the fence, or even tepidly and cowardly oppose, of course, until they see positive results, then they jump on the bandwagon and claim they were with us all along. See Reagan, Ron.

So I ask again: How do the Real Republicans / classical liberals / patriots / whatever you want to call us, actually WIN? Or do we just sit here and bitch? Nothing wrong with the latter, it may be hopeless and frequently as I have said before, I just want to cry.

Funny thing about Prissy Priebus: Mitt, however RINOey he was on other issues, did have immigration right. See also Wilson, Pete.

    well, you asked for it

This only works if you control the media enough to control your own message.

As our media is just another arm of the Democrat party, the message that actually reaches the public will be something more on the order of “Republicans opposed us at every step! Republicans wouldn’t let us react to the problems during implementation! It’s all their fault! We need single payer!”

De-funding has a chance, however slight. Letting it fail, and saying “I told you so” is just more of the Stupid Party Fail-stravaganza.

  49. Ernst Schreiber says:

De-funding [Obamacare] has a chance, however slight. Letting it fail, and saying “I told you so” is just more of the Stupid Party Fail-stravaganza.

Particularly since it’s intended to fail.

Uh, NO. Quite the opposite. Saying “you asked for it”, and just voting no for the record and not filibustering, is *not* that. It is letting them own it. Which is what happened in 2010. That fall, the GOP actually had great success, not as great as 1994, but fewer seats were in play in 2010; 1994 was a GOP perfect storm, just like 2006 was a Demunist perfect storm.

Fighting for a de-fund, whether by delaying tactics or a full frontal assault (which sadly we just do not have the numbers for), *will* bring out the media apparatchiks. Well, the apparatchiks will come out anyway (Law Of Anyway again).

Again, I’m not telling; I am asking. How do we actually win? (And if you are upset about fair weather RINOs and Establican wusses, well, they will always be along for the ride when we do actually win, just as they were in 1994 and 1980).

  51. Curmudgeon says:

Not that Rince still isn’t a RINO putz on this issue…..

  52. cranky-d says:

I think we’re gonna have to just disagree on this, because lefties will and already are writing the history/narrative on this, just as they have with McCarthy/Chambers and commies in the State dept/Democrat party, the “lost” Vietnam war, Democrats and civil rights/Jim Crow, and on and on and on.

No point in bringing up the example of the “success” of 2010, because the voters who made that happen wanted results, or at least action from this bunch. They won’t make the mistake of trusting again.

I’m sure that investigating historians of conservative bent (in some future time and country) will be very impressed with the “You own it!” strategy.

  54. Curmudgeon says:

BTW, when I say “you own it”, that means NOT helping the Commiecrats implement their commie plans “better”. I mean not owning it. At all. And keep pushing for repeal, of course.

  55. The Monster says:

Rove is right that a court should rule against the President (or SecHHS) having the authority to suspend a law.

As bad as ObamaCare is, it’s even worse if it’s subject to the whim of the Executive Branch what parts of the law will be enforced against whom. It will only be enforced against political opponents of the régime. No one will know what the law is, because the law will be different for everyone.

That’s the legal precedent we’re going to set here.
