From The Scotsman:
Muslims who resent the British way of life should leave the UK, regardless of whether they are citizens or not, a senior Conservative said last night in comments that have heightened already tense community relations.
Gerald Howarth, the shadow defence minister, last night told The Scotsman that extremist Muslims who see the Iraq war as a conflict against Islam should be considered as treacherous as Soviet sympathisers during the Cold War. His remarkable claim shatters the tri-party consensus which Michael Howard, the Tory leader, sought to make with Tony Blair, the Prime Minister, and the Liberal Democrats.
Mr Howarth said yesterday that he is incensed by suggestions from Jack Straw, the Foreign Secretary, that Britain is “part of the problem” in Iraq – and said that the problem in the UK lies in fanatical Muslims living within our shores.
He is the first mainstream UK politician to suggest that extremist British Muslims should leave for Islamic societies. The government is looking at deporting foreign-born nationals and imprisoning British Muslims who incite or glorify terrorism.
“If they don’t like our way of life, there is a simple remedy: go to another country, get out,” Mr Howarth said. Asked what if these people were born in Britain, he replied: “Tough. If you don’t give allegiance to this country, then leave.”
That, my friends, is called throwing down the gauntlet, hard — both to radicalized Islamists living inside balkanized Britain, and to the proponents of multiculturalism whose ideas for governance, it can be argued, led predictably to the clash of cultures we are beginning to see inside the Western European liberal democracies who long ago adopted as an article of faith faulty and divisive multiculturalist policy initiatives.
Debate is a good thing. And it seems to me that, despite Blair’s best efforts to keep a lid on what is no doubt a volatile stew of competing grievances, the pot is about to boil over…

Now if we could only get someone with that much spine here in the good ol USA
I think its a damn shame that the following statement is considered “controversial” at all:
“If they don’t like our way of life, there is a simple remedy: go to another country, get out,†Mr Howarth said. Asked what if these people were born in Britain, he replied: “Tough. If you don’t give allegiance to this country, then leave.”
Shadow defence minister?
He’s a sinister minister?
Sharp as a Marble—if we were to apply that to the US, we’d be facing an empty Berkeley.
Shadow ministers are members of opposing political parties that act as critics of the minister of [insert position].
Gerald Howarth is therefore the go-to-guy to criticize the UK’s Minister of Defence.
And yes, talk about throwing the gauntlet down hard. That’s because the stability was broken by the bombings. No point trying to maintain the peace when they’re blowing the place up.
Why that is horrible is beyond me… They can say what they want, but you’re in that country… your allegiance is to that country- not to the people blowing it up.
(Doesn’t like to offend- sorry if I did >_<
Robert, there would be nothing wrong with an empty Berkeley…there hasn’t been anything worthwhile going on there in 45 years anyway.
By the way, Howarth is a shade bit forceful, but 100% right. And Marble, we do have a few such people here in the New World. One of them is our new Ambassador to the United Nations…hip-hip-hooray!
“If you don’t love it, leave it! Let this song that I’m singin’ be a warning: When you’re runnin’ down my country, hoss, you’re walkin’ on the fighting side of me.”
MERLE HAGGARD FOR PRESIDENT!
Now let’s see if the UK Tories give Mr. Howarth the Tancredo treatment.
We jest about emptying Berkeley, but in fact England has that Tower of London, and it was used for executions. Those people solved just these sorts of problems in the same old way that has always worked: by killing everyone who resists.
They expelled all the Jews in 1290, if memory serves, over another one of those popular monarch-poisoning plots like the one Stalin was mulling over when he kicked.
Who would think these people would stay their hand forever? Let them show us the way. We’re supposed to follow the Euros around to learn how things are done. Great, once Europe has tightened up on their resident aliens, we can finally be allowed to do the same.
Perhaps before another 9/11, that would be nice.
Turing word: “looking.”
As in, looking for ways to save our lives that are morally acceptable to the righteous ones among us.
