Mob rule populism

Looking for political cover should he accede to the Bloomberg/DC anti-gun, pro-criminal measures passed by CO Dems on party line votes, Gov Hickenlooper has said he is tallying emails, pro and con, to determine where he’ll wind up on the proposed gun grabbing legislation  that will soon reach his desk.

Anti-gun groups are likely to use astro-turfing to stuff Hickenlooper’s inbox; therefore, it is imperative that 2nd Amendment guardians please please please take a moment to write a short email insisting that the Governor not allow a single party, with no bipartisan support at all, to rob erstwhile law-abiding Colorado citizens of their natural right to self-protection, and of their natural role as true first responders against threats to themselves,  their families or their property — as well as the last bulwark of protection for their communities or the state from tyrannical impositions, be they foreign or domestic.

This is a line in sand moment for those of us who take seriously the Bill of Rights and who understand that the Constitution is designed to protect the individual  rights  of citizens from government overreach and presumption.

Recall elections are fine, but they don’t change the law — at least not immediately.  And given the nature of government, any law that can gain institutional traction, even for a short time, is difficult to roll back completely and without “reasonable compromise.”

The time to stop this is now.

Please.  I implore you.  Take a moment to email the Governor and tell him that “shall not be infringed” is about as clear as legal language can get.  And while you’re at it, you might mention — politely, of course — that the Constitution was written to protect against the often emotionally-driven whims of a temporary majority, a fact that he himself must surely already know.

    Done.

  2. Squid says:

I was going to ask whether it mattered that I didn’t live anywhere near Colorado. But then I figured that if out-of-staters can write the legislation, they sure as Hell can comment on it.

  3. Squid says:

    Governor,

Normally, I encourage legislators and executives from other states to craft job-killing legislation, figuring that the fleeing businesses may come to my community and improve our local economy. In this case, I must make an exception. The rights of my fellow Americans in Colorado are too important; I cannot support those rights being trampled, no matter how it might benefit me personally. I encourage you to adopt this perspective as you make your deliberations, as well as reflecting upon the meaning of the words “shall not be infringed.” Your constituents deserve no less.

I try to at least be entertaining. Doesn’t matter; whatever drone reads the thing is just gonna chuck it in the “ignernt redneck” pile anyway.

Is HB13-1224 the correct legislative designation of the magazine ban bill?

Sen. Mrs. Feinstein takes offense on behalf of her personal ignorance.

    Holy cow is Feinstein pigheaded.

Weapons of war? How many soldiers carry semiautomatic AR-15s?

  7. Garym says:

Don’t worry squid, we need all the help we can get. I just fired off my own email to Hicklicker, but my guess is it will be ignored. He is a coward and won’t go against the progressives in his party.

  8. LBascom says:

    My submission:

    Sir,

With respect, this incremental disarming of the people against the constitution and the principles for which it was written is un-American and tyrannical.

I implore you, rise above party politics and stand for the oath you swore to defend the constitution against enemies foreign and DOMESTIC.

“I am not a sixth grader” asserts the senior senator from California. But for comity, Cruz might have replied, “Objection! Arguing facts not in evidence.”

    Done.

Done. And tweeted. I don’t do the facebook anymore.

I’d like to get my hands on some of those imploding bullets she mentioned.

  13. happyfeet says:

that stupid bitch is saying that congress can get as fascist as they want with people’s rights and it’s the perverted roberts court’s job to apply constitutional principles

    which, that’s true I guess

but you’re not opposed to say it out loud stupid whore

On implosion, they create very tiny singularities which then orbit around the heart, creating microtubes of gravity- and x-ray-disrupted tissue. The person eventually dies, and the singularities evaporate in a spray of quarks, leaving almost no trace.

Unless you know what you’re looking for.

No shit. I heard this from a CIA buddy of mine.

    Done

  16. RI Red says:

Done, understanding it won’t make a damned bit of difference.

  17. cranky-d says:

The notion that just the SC is responsible for judging the Constitutionality of a given law is a relatively new one. The founders expected every branch of government to be careful about crossing that line. The SC took over that role by fiat with Marbury v. Madison.

  18. Mine included that “honest government” thing I’m so inordinately proud of.

  19. bour3 says:

The thing is guns are scary, but scarier than guns are reckless politicians busting a move on my Constitutional rights in an obviously coordinated national effort. That’s scary.

Busting a move is my favorite phrase for this.

Because that’s what they’re doing, and they’re so fucking obvious about it.

And the schoolmarm aspect to it makes me varmit. Because so many of our state legislators come up through Denver Public School system. So much so, that DPS has become basically a Democrat politician-generating machine. Heavy with administrators and light on educators. With the effect of education administrators becoming legislators. And another effect is receptacles at Whole Food checkout for donations for DPS, another thing to varmit about.

  20. SBP says:

I wonder if the head honcho at Whole Foods knows about that. Isn’t he supposed to be some kind of libertarian?
