Colorado Senate Live Feed: watch as our 2nd Amendment rights go poof! [UPDATED, UPDATED AGAIN, & AGAIN]

I’ll be watching this most of the day, so consider this thread an open thread, as well as a thread where I’ll be commenting on a set of lawmakers, in league with the federal government, presuming to take away a natural right.

There will be much “discussion” and much “debate,” and none of it will matter:  Democrat lawmakers have gotten their marching orders, and all they are looking for now is some plausible (or rather, what they think the public will see as “plausible”) rationale for taking away a right under the aegis of “the public good.”

It matters not that their actions create a less safe public; or that their actions are unconstitutional.  It only matters what they think they can get away with, and what opportunities they can find to use to push their agenda.  And that agenda is to break down the culture of individual autonomy and replace it with collectivism.

Today is about power, not gun control.

Also, as a side note, today will mark the end of my March fundraiser. Thanks to all who have contributed.  I’ve fallen a bit short of my goal, but I understand that times are tough, so no worries.

As a second side note, Satchel will be competing in yet another tournament tomorrow deep in the eastern plains, so I’ll be coaching and won’t be around much.  Best of luck, Satch!

“Colorado Democrat State Senator” is an anagram for ‘Comatose cold sore to a retardant.’

  2. happyfeet says:

colorado means “colored red” you know

    like communists

    and patriot blood

    and fire trucks

    and roses

    and solo cups

    but mostly like communists

  3. Mike LaRoche says:

    Democrats suck.

  4. steveaz says:

I can’t bear to watch the clown show but look forward to tomorrow’s slimmed-down list of targets to isolate, freeze and destroy.

I will savor the sizzle and the rend, as we devour these
pretenders’ reputations molecule by tender molecule. Like Killer T-Cells dissolve a colony of unwanted bacillus: we’ll surround these germs, and engulf them in vaccuoles, and digest them in Peroxide: If one of them has a mistress, let’s interrogate her prior housecleaner; if one of them has a vagina, let’s pay Andrew Sullivan to probe it (figuratively, of course – this is a family blog); and if one of them has a post-pubescent, female child, let’s cajole David Letterman to deflower her on national TV.

Goose, meet Gander. Now, here’s some sauce!

  5. mojo says:

    And Arizona means “stinking desert”

  6. Jeff G. says:

I was able to order 10 pmags from Magpul; my wife also ordered 10. I’ve also been able to acquire an AR15 lower from a pal of mine who’s a gun dealer — and have a line on a heavy barrel Bushmaster, also from a buddy, who has agreed to work with me on payment (I probably can’t do anything until May).

I also found some polymer SCAR-17 Mags at $70 each from a place called molonlabeindustries. I ordered 4 of those and pre-ordered 3 25-round polymer mags, hoping that the order, because it is charged up front, pre-dates any ban.

Financially, I’m totally tapped out. The new truck — which requires me to pay $900 for license plates — has set us back. And this gun ban looming has compelled me to leverage my credit in order to make sure I’m covered in the likely event of a ban.

What this country has become is fucking absurd and in many ways obscene.

  7. Jeff G. says:

    I’m depressed.

  8. LBascom says:

Watch a few episodes of Duck Dynasty, that always cheers me up.

  9. Blake says:

Jeff, my best to Satch, may he kick ass.

What pisses me off more than anything is those two tools, McCain and Graham, crapping all over Rand Paul’s filibuster. Those two assholes refuse to understand the only reason they’re even invited on tv is due to their willingness to bash members of the GOP while giving plaudits to Democrats.

  10. sdferr says:

Those two assholes refuse to understand the only reason they’re even invited on tv is due to their willingness to bash members of the GOP while giving plaudits to Democrats

oh no. no no no. It’s much better to assume they know exactly what they’re doing, if only because they do know. Which, of course, only makes the act the worse. But then, why wouldn’t it be?

  11. happyfeet says:

$900 for license plates is not america

  12. steveaz says:

“Mo” is urban slang for “more.” “Jo” is a gutteral contraction of the word “juice,” a popular sugary drink, which, in ghetto lore can mean any intoxicating substance.

In nineties’ urban lingo the two were commonly combined to form “MoJo.” The literal translation of which is, “More Juice, Please!” but without the “Please,” a subtle enough demand.

But one whose deeper menace is exposed when translated for an urban audience: In Ghetto-ese” it becomes “Give Me More Buzz, Just ‘Cuz.” Which sounds like something a robber says to the liquor store owner just before he holds it up.

Just sayin’s all! (Don’t Mess With Arizona!)

  13. steveaz says:

    Lord help us dump McCain!

  14. Pablo says:

So, is the campus CCW ban dead? That would be a good start.

  15. Jeff G. says:

Lee. DD has a 20% special today on t-shirts. I already have a “Happy Happy Happy” shirt, so I bought a beanie. And Ms Kay’s cooking DVD.

  16. Jeff G. says:

Pablo, I’m not sure. We can hope. Right now I’m listening to debate on why we have to strip those accused of domestic violence of their guns, even though there already exists a law denying them new gun purchases.

Particularly now with the VAWA, unpleasant language against the transgendered, eg.. can come to be termed domestic violence. Any way they can figure out how to get a gun away from you they will use.

And the national Republicans, caucusing with the Democrats, helped.

  17. Blake says:

    sdferr,

After the way McCain ran his election campaign, I sincerely doubt McCain knows what he is doing.

Graham is still the same milquetoast fainting couch RINO he always was. Unfortunately, Graham thinks he is “new and improved” because of all the tv face time.

  18. geoffb says:

I make no assertion that this bill will either increase or reduce violent crime. That is not the premise of the bill.

Colorado State Representative Claire Levy (D)

  19. Pablo says:

So, due process is outdated, passé. How sad.

  20. geoffb says:

The sponsor of a bill banning concealed weapons on college campuses plans to kill his measure Friday, Democrats have confirmed.

Four Democratic sources close to the matter said the bill’s sponsor, Rollie Heath, D-Boulder, plans to kill the bill and it won’t be brought up for debate on the Senate floor.

  21. geoffb says:

Sorry, that link duplicated Pablo @ 11:27.

  22. sdferr says:

An epistemological position is a tough nut to crack Blake, but doesn’t the mere consistency which both McCain and Graham make in their various appearances on various issues over long spans of time suggest that they must know, in some (possibly circumscribed, to include consultation with personal habit, say) sense of knowing, what it is they intend to do and in the event, do do? Or, that is, they don’t arrive at their positions willy-nilly — randomly — which a genuinely ignorant individual might be supposed to do? Wouldn’t it be safer to assume they possess the ownership of their acts, in this sense?

  23. geoffb says:

The White House gun control strategy for it’s allies. Sit down, shut up, back us 100%, or else.

Sounds a lot like how they treat everyone, everywhere.

  24. Blake says:

sdferr, the old saw about malice and incompetence comes to mind.

Seriously though, I tended to just sigh when it comes to McCain and Graham. I no longer sigh, I actively despise both of them.

Honestly, I don’t think McCain or Graham know or care about the problems they’re creating, as long as their little egos get fluffed by the siren song of network tv.

  25. cranky-d says:

I make no assertion that this bill will either increase or reduce violent crime. That is not the premise of the bill.

I used to think it refreshing when they announced their blatant fascism. Now, it’s frustrating instead, because they tell everyone what they are actually doing but few are listening.

  26. geoffb says:

The House Republican Study Committee (RSC) has launched a Second Amendment Initiative for the 113th Congress under the leadership of Indiana Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Third District) to counter what they believe is President Barack Obama’s “out-of-touch agenda” on gun control.

In a press release, RSC Chairman Rep. Steve Scalise (R-Indiana) asserted that the president’s “radical anti-gun agenda is a threat to our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.”

“Efforts to take away the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans will not reduce crime or prevent criminals from breaking the law,” Scalise said. “We will not allow President Obama and liberals in Congress to take away our right to bear arms.”

  27. sdferr says:

On Saturday, Florida State Sen. Audrey Gibson (D-Jacksonville) filed SB 1678, a bill that would prohibit the sale of ammunition to any individual who had not first completed an anger-management course.

According to the language of the bill, it would be unlawful to “A) Sell ammunition to another person who does not present certification that he or she has successfully completed an anger-management program consisting of at least 2 hours of online or face-to-face instruction in anger-management techniques. B) Purchase or otherwise obtain ammunition by fraud, false pretense, or false representation.”

Additionally, the anger management certification must be renewed every 10 years.

  28. cranky-d says:

I have a feeling Senator Gibson’s bill won’t get very far. It’s a trial balloon.

  29. John Bradley says:

Clearly Ms. Gibson is just another paid-for shill in the pocket of BIG ANGER MANAGEMENT.

  30. Silver Whistle says:

There isn’t an amendment the left doesn’t hate.

  31. sdferr says:

I kinda wish such trial balloons could serve as trial lenses of the non-fitness of such as Sen. Gibson in the public trust she holds in office, and be efficiently put to use in order to purge her stupidities, along with her person, from the Senate — tarred, feathered and on a splintery rail, if need be.

  32. happyfeet says:

  34. Merovign says:

Feinstein thinks the only standard for gun ownership is employment. Government employment.

She also apparently thinks PTSD only cam into existence after the Iraq war.

Because she’s a drooling idiot. That’s for both.

  35. mojo says:

Yes, it was a long reach, but sorta well done, I guess.

Anybody here from New Mexico, or can I just let fly?

  36. geoffb says:

    New Mexico? Let’er rip.

  37. Gun control is hitting your target; anger management means choosing the most deserving target.

  38. JayG says:

    Jeff,
I would be wary of the Molon Labe Industries mags. They have been saying they are two weeks away from delivery of their first mags for about 3 months. Also, the mags are way, way longer than normal 20 round mags and the 25 rounder looks like it is ridiculous. If you dig into the FN Forum discussions, you can see the extreme dissatisfaction with Molon Labe.
I recommend watching for Thermold 20 SN SCAR mags. Much cheaper and decent reviews on the FN SCAR 17 forum. Can also modify metric FN FAL mags to work. Also watch the FN SCAR 17 forum religiously and people will give notices of factory mags on sale at normal prices but they go in a flash.

  39. cranky-d says:

I kinda wish such trial balloons could serve as trial lenses of the non-fitness of such as Sen. Gibson in the public trust she holds in office, and be efficiently put to use in order to purge her stupidities, along with her person, from the Senate — tarred, feathered and on a splintery rail, if need be.

That’s a very good point. However, we know that in practice nothing will happen. Too many people just want the free stuff to keep on coming.

Gun control is hitting your target; anger management means choosing the most deserving target.

I was going to snark on that topic, but couldn’t come up with anything good. Luckily we have McGehee to save the day.

  40. Jeff G. says:

Crap, JayG. I guess I can just cancel my order. I was actually thinking about getting a Handl replacement lower and then using the Magpul 20s, but the lowers are on back order, as well.

  41. That was not snark. It was sage wisdom, suitable for carving in stone or adding to a sidebar.

  42. JayG says:

Sgt Stryker on the forum is making replacement lowers that handle the Magpuls, but I believe they are also on backorder. Definitely check out the Thermold SCAR 17 mag availability.

  43. cranky-d says:

That was not snark. It was sage wisdom, suitable for carving in stone or adding to a sidebar.

    Can’t it be both?

  44. cranky-d says:

Now it has its own post on my teeny tiny blog.

The non-biased press and the adult position and policy papers of the anti-gun crowd.

  50. When you say that it is about power and not guns, you are exactly right. I’ve tried to explain that to people – if it was about guns or public safety, they’d be publicly trying to ban handguns right now and not “assault weapons” since handguns are used in a lot more crime.

The fact is, they know that banning handguns would not be popular enough right now, so they’ve got to slowly come down the ladder with each currently “extreme” weapon at a time. Right now it’s assault weapons, next it’s shotguns or handguns that can hold more than a specific amount of rounds or exceed some arbitrary power limit, etc.

  54. Merovign says:

Time to kick some politicians out on their ears. Long, hard slog ahead.

Maybe some of the CA lawfare people can help – what rollbacks we’ve had here of stupid gun laws have mainly been through the courts (some say ironically).

  55. beemoe says:

The sad thing is, if you are going to allow taxes and competencey testing on something that is a guaranteed Constitutional right, like bearing arms, it would seem to indicate you could do the same to something that isn’t a guaranteed Constitutional right, like voting.

But that would assume honesty and logic.

  56. beemoe says:

I meant to indicate it was sad because at least there would be a bit of an upside to all this horseshit. Didn’t make that clear before I hit post.
