No links for this, this is anecdotal information I’m directly observing now that I’m back working at the Office of the District Attorney.
Last year Jerry Brown pushed, and got, Assembly Bill 109 (AB109) passed. It deals with a program called “Prison Realignment” — simply put, CA’s state prison system is way over-capacity and the Federal government has ordered a reduction in the population, on the order of tens of thousands.
California is also flat broke. So, kill a couple of metaphorical birds here – dump state parolees on the counties to supervise and pink-slip 80% of the state parole officers.
Anyone paying the least bit of attention knows that the state prisons are for some pretty bad actors. Naturally there was rumbling among the citizenry about the prospect of somewhere around 30,000 prisoners kicked back into the counties from whence they were convicted. But rest assured Jerry & the Dems told us
The new local authority over “post-release community supervision” will apply only to those whose convictions were for non-serious, nonviolent, non-sex-related offenses.
Now there’s the rub. Our office is processing and tracking those within the AB109 program who are already re-offending and lo and behold looking at their original crimes, we are finding sex offenders and crimes of violence – like domestic violence and child abuse serious enough to get one to state prison in the first place.
This guy?, not my office but word from the agency involved is he was in the AB109 program.
Isn’t that special?
California is run, top to bottom, by Democrats.
The rest of you non-Californios? Watch closely, this is a preview of where America is headed.

California is a snapshot of how Liberals govern and a grim lesson.
California is going down and over the cliff, but the rest of us won’t follow.
He is not costing the state any money now, looks to me like the program is working.

what the article doesn’t also say, is the [now dead] perp turned and pointed the gun at the cop ..the gun they found at the scene had actually been fired but jammed.

From what I can tell, the left believes that the best approach to threats of violence is to tilt your head just so in order to give the person making the threat better access to your jugular.
