“Ousted Attendee: Gay Activist Dan Savage Is ‘A Walking Hate Crime,’ Speech Video Will Show”

The best way to teach anti-bullying techniques is to identify the bullies and bully them. This works especially well if the bullies don’t know that they’re bullies — and if they haven’t been engaging in any overt acts of  bullying.

That is, this works especially well if only you can identify the bullies, and you do so by policing their thoughts, which you’ve anticipated by viewing them each as part of a monolithic class of haters. And, of course, as de facto vile bullies, whose thoughts you know in advance, and whose bullyness is so very ingrained that they don’t even recognize it themselves.

— Such blindness rendering them in need of a more tolerant bullying as a kind of enlightened social corrective — one you are happy to provide as a show of your ethical superiority.

You hate in order to love.

CNS News:

The media have been glossing over militant gay activist Dan Savage’s brutal war on Christians during a talk at Elmhurst College last week. Conservative activist Peter LaBarbera claims he was removed from the “It Gets Better” founder’s event after LaBarbera expressed his Christian views, and attempted to question Savage about his vile attack on conservative presidential candidate Rick Santorum.

This latest attack on Christians comes just days after more than 100 Christian high students walked out on Savage after he called them “pansy-assed” at a journalism conference in California and said offensive things about Christianity.

According to LaBarbera the “anti-bullying” bigotry was laced with profanity and filthy and distorted accusations about believing Christians. “Savage made wildly inappropriate comments,” he said. At one point Savage “claimed the only thing stopping his d**k from being put in Brad Pitt’s mouth is a piece of paper,” LaBarbera said, apparently referencing legislation.

[…]

LaBarbera also said Savage told the audience America has a “Christianity and a Bible problem” and that Americans need to ignore what the Bible says about gays. He admitted the goal of his It Gets Better foundation is “to talk to kids whether their parents want us to or not. From the outset there was an outstretched middle finger.”

Savage’s message is able to reach millions of kids via YouTube, and the social media company is known for catering to lefty interests. YouTube changed everything, it is a platform for distorted messages, LaBarbera argued.

According to LaBarbera, Savage wasn’t afraid to make uncouth slurs about the pope and Catholicism either. “He said the pope is projecting, which translates to the pope is secretly gay,” said LaBarbera. “He said the pope believes once gays marriage is widespread then all people will forget which hole sh**s babies.”

After listening to Savage spew his revolting rhetoric, LaBarbera confronted Savage about his malicious attack on conservative presidential candidate Rick Santorum.

Savage famously created SpreadingSantorum.com and started a “Google bomb” with the definition of Santorum as: “The frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.” Many left-wing websites linked to that definition, boosting its online popularity. In the past, Savage also claimed he would love to hate-f*** Santorum.

LaBarbera said his mic was shut off so the audience could not hear Savage’s appalling definition of Santorum, and Savage vehemently defended his disgusting act. He said he would never take the website down, and hopefully someday the Santorum kids could correct their father. He had absolutely no remorse, only defiance, LaBarbera said about Savage’s response.

LaBarbera said he turned to the crowd and told them Christians do not want kids bullied and neither does Tony Perkins. When he returned to his seat the woman next to him took his coat and belongings and threw them into the aisle.

LaBarbera said he was then escorted from the event because of his “disruptive behavior.”

“I was not a heckler and I was not belligerent. I only asked a question and all I wanted to do was hear the rest of the talk,” LaBarbera said.

LaBarbera is pushing for Elmhurst College to release the entire, un-doctored video of Savage’s talk, and they should take responsibility for Savage’s bullying instead of propagandizing it. “What is Elmhurst’s policy?  […]

Dan Savage continues to be supported by the White House and the media, further contributing to America’s culture decline. Savage has made repeated controversial and bigoted statements and also said he “wishes all Republicans were f***ing dead” – but, still is allowed to give “sex advice” to kids. “Dan Savage is the face of progressive-hate and he himself is a walking hate-crime,” LaBarbera said.

Americans For Truth About Homosexuality said it will release the complete unedited footage of Savage’s talk on its website in the next few days. “We want the whole world to evaluate Dan Savage,” LaBarbera said.

An Elmhurst College’s spokesperson could not be reached for comment about the talk.

Of course not.  Likely because s/he’s a pansy-assed faggot — though I’ll defer any official ruling on the matter to those who,  by dint of their being authentic faggots and pansy-asses, have the requisite social authority to use those labels.

Besides, the real concern here is not Dan Savage, but rather that far-right Christers who believe in their bigoted scripture are far more hatey and intolerant than the good and decent Christers what don’t like to judge — just like Jesus! — and that this broken, bigoted country needs more of the good Christers and less of the hatey ones so that we can all get along.   As equals.

And frankly, if the best way to move hatey far-right Christianity out of the realm of faith-based adherence to ancient goat herder superstitions and into the modern enlightened world of religion as an all-inclusive self-esteem fluffer and rhetorical fashion accessory is Dan Savage’s pointed musings about sucking on Brad Pitt’s cock, well, then let the slurping commence, by God!

Can I get an Amen?

Forward!

Savage is to the pro-gay movement what Kevorkian was to pro-euthanasia.

Very much the wrong guy to put on your recruiting posters.

    Amen. Let the slurping commence.

  4. leigh says:

Dan Savage and Fred Phelps have a lot in common.

  5. bh says:

    Amen and Hallelujah, brother Jeff.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to pick out my best ram to sacrifice. I’m either going to beseech Him to make Dan Savage less of a dick or my normal wish for an Eli Manning smiting.

  6. Matt says:

Dan mentioned he read the Savage columns- I do as well in the local “liberal” rag that I tend to read on the toilet, when I have nothing better to read. Savage is, undoubtedly, a hate filled bitter person, who constantly rails against conservatives and Christians for making him feel bad about his lifestyle. While its not every column, I’d estimate every other column has some slam on conservatives. Its amazing to me that an “anti bullying campaign” would be lead by a douchbag bullying anti-Christian queen but I guess when the left funds programs, these are the type of people they fund.

If I was parents at this school where he spoke, I would be at the next school board meeting, demanding that heads roll – anyone that has ever read anything by Savage should understand that he’s a terrible role model, for gays or anybody else.

  7. Pablo says:

Ever seen a gay bully ourobouros? Now you have.

I saw some old old ~Catholic friends this weekend who remember me as a church-bashing atheist, and for a couple of them my defending other’s right to believe what they believe = soc con. (plus Viagra!)

  9. zamoose says:

Y’all are missing the point. Savage is anti- you “bullying” him. Everything else is fair game/just comeuppance.

Forgive me if this ground has been tilled before, but I find it interesting.

I am in the midst of reading Gordon Wood’s excellent “Revolutionary Characters,” and he explained that the Founders were men of an odd (by our standards) virtue: they believed their public lives were the most important aspect of themselves. Thus, they deliberately cultivated a disinterested (as in uncontaminated by self-interest), public-minded personas and acted according to these “roles,” for lack of a better term. They deliberately avoided bringing their private lives into the equation, going so far as to burn personal correspondence before their deaths to avoid “contaminating” the public persona.

With that in mind, I can’t imagine a more polar opposite figure to the Founders than Dan Savage, a mile-marker for our diminished times.

  11. LBascom says:

religion as an all-inclusive self-esteem fluffer and rhetorical fashion accessory

    Ha! nicely put.

Like that’s what Americans need, more self-esteem.

Take Savage for instance. Brad Pitt?! HA! He could never get a Brad Pitt. A Barney Frank maybe, perhaps Al Frankin, but Brad? Please. Who does he think he is, Justin Bieber?

  12. paulzummo says:

Savage is to the pro-gay movement what Kevorkian was to pro-euthanasia.
Very much the wrong guy to put on your recruiting posters.

Exactly. If he really believed in the cause he was purporting to espouse, he would immediately disassociate himself from the anti-bullying campaign. Of course, Dan Savage is more interested in promoting the cause of Dan Savage than in actually working to stop bullying, so that ain’t gonna happen.

  13. geoffb says:

Organizations founded to “solve problems” often find themselves having solved the “problem” they were founded upon and then their problem becomes how to keep the money, power, and access to all those wonderful events flowing in for the leaders and their minions. The solution is to find new “problems” or gin up louder and louder outrage over the ever smaller remaining pieces left of the original “problem”. Pieces which may not even be problematical with 99.99% of the original now gone.

Dan Savage, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, NOW, EPA, Energy Dept., Unions. The Left thrives on the reanimated bodies of problems long past. Zombie problems, zombie causes for a zombie ideology.

Nice but large pdf on energy here.

he’s something of a provocateur, this Mr. Savage

Yep. It’s a weird (welcome, but weird) coalition, and a clarifying moment.

Strange days, indeed. Most peculiar, mama.

  16. Jeff G. says:

like Sarah Palin, he”pisses off all the right people” I think

And by all the right people, you of course mean “the wrong people.”

The real “right” people are those who can see in to your brain to make sure you are thinking socially-approved thoughts. Really, it’s for your own good.

  17. Pablo says:

Take Savage for instance. Brad Pitt?! HA! He could never get a Brad Pitt. A Barney Frank maybe, perhaps Al Frankin, but Brad? Please. Who does he think he is, Justin Bieber?

    Behold his “spouse”. Oy.

I thought gay men were supposed to be fabulous and fashion forward. Memo to the twink: If you’re going to the White House, iron your fucking shirt.

  18. bh says:

That Perez Hilton rebuke that Pablo linked makes for an interesting line in the sand. A guy who draws cocks and jizz on celebrity pictures for a living finds Dan Savage to be uncivil.

Makes me think that this issue might be something of a no-brainer.

  19. Roddy Boyd says:

There are many things that baffle here.

    1. Booking Dan Savage and worrying about the amount of times he goes off on the joys of power-bottoming or “felching” is ridiculous. It’s like booking Tupac Shakur and telling him to hold off on using “N*gger” in his songs. This is WHAT Dan Savage does; you only book him because he gets dumb hetero girls to ask questions in front of their classmates about the merits of spitting vs. swallowing. He is an archetype: the outragous homo. All that is missing is Bette Midler’s swinging rack and Barry Manilow backing on piano and we are back on Christopher Street’s bathouses circa 1970.

    2. It is a rig. The rules are that Christians always look stupid, period. I don’t care if Savage came out and shit on a pizza box, the Christians were wrong to note that he was crapping on a pizza box. You never do “The full retard” and you are always wrong if you are a Chritian. Know it, own it.

    3. Per Jeff–and frankly, my comment of a few days ago–the way you beat down the sex language police is to use the graphic and sharp and fold it back on them, using familiarity and logic. Since Jeff has no problem discussing the merits of ass play or “Space Titties” he is an unusually effective counter-measure to Amanda Marcotte or Dan Savage, who, if we are candid, are likely the same person

  20. dicentra says:

Wow, if you’ve lost Perez Hilton

  21. RI Red says:

I know I’m tempting fate as in invoking “Beetle Juice” times three – but a certain neon yellow Icon has a hard-on for a high school girl instead of circus-freak Savage?

  22. LBascom says:

Wasn’t Perez Hilton the one that bullied that Miss America contestant?

  23. palaeomerus says:

“he’s something of a provocateur, this Mr. Savage
like Sarah Palin, he”pisses off all the right people” I think”

#@$*ing marriage hoarding Christers! They should have to share marriage with anyone who wants it! And if they won’t then they deserve what they get!

  24. Dale Price says:

Wasn’t Perez Hilton the one that bullied that Miss America contestant?

Not to her face, and she was an adult when he went ballistic–Twitter, I think?

Not to defend what he said, but there are a couple of important distinctions.

Much better than Savage with his captive audience of schoolkids. Can’t wait to see the entire tape.

  25. palaeomerus says:

“he’s something of a provocateur, this Mr. Savage
like Sarah Palin, he”pisses off all the right people” I think”

Yeah that’s how the cartoon goes.

  26. BT says:

I’m still trying to figure out when it became only the gay kids who got bullied in school.

  27. palaeomerus says:

Maybe if you get picked on and called a faggot in school you honorarily become politically gay on a provisional basis provided you don’t get in the way of any agenda’s and aren’t one of those wacky misguided Christers.

  28. LBascom says:

Savage famously created SpreadingSantorum.com and started a “Google bomb” with the definition of Santorum as: “The frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.”

He may define Santorum that way, but for me, the image will always be attached to Savage.

    Oh, and EWWWWWWW!!

  29. sdferr says:

    Yeah, well . . . bullying is a beard. A political beard.

  30. rjacobse says:

Ever notice how some people just can’t talk about certain topics without going off into something kind of like Tourette’s, ‘cept they make even less sense than the usual Tourette’s coprolalia?

  31. happyfeet says:

peace be with you Mr. jacobse

  32. JD says:

I am going to google coprolalia

  33. cranky-d says:

OT: I recently saw an Obama sticker on the car in front of me. It consisted of a representation of Obama and the word “Hope” below it.

My first response was “Nope,” followed quickly by “Dope.”

  34. JD says:

I may fucking suffer from that cockandbalkz twat.

  35. cranky-d says:

I would guess coprolalia involves throwing poop, or something to that effect

  36. Dale Price says:

Dan Savage and Fred Phelps have a lot in common.

    For starters, they’re both provocateurs.

  37. sdferr says:

Shit-slinger might look like coproballon or some such, just guessing. Dollars to doughnuts something close shows up in Aristophanes someplace.

  40. sdferr says:

A spreader (with one lambda), like a lawn spreader . . . which “throws” in a sense. Interesting that it goes with “ptuon”, to spit, like ptuey!

  41. B Moe says:

There’s only one problem: the organization is headed by one Dan Savage.

This is the same Dan Savage who spoke at the National High School Journalism Conference last week, where he ripped into the Bible and called religious students “pansy-assed” for walking out on him.

But there’s much more to Dan Savage than just anti-religious bullying. He’s one of the biggest bullies on the planet. And he’s the point person the White House specifically chose – and fundraised for – in order to push their anti-bullying agenda.

There is another problem. Savage has gotten Breitbart, and most other people on the right, accepting his definition of bullying. Which is exactly what the left needed to win.

  42. bh says:

People are probably using “bullying” in varying ways but I’m seeing plenty of signals from some that they’re using it in a “turnabout is fair play” sort of way, B Moe.

  43. palaeomerus says:

Is copropeltasta the word we are looking for?

  44. palaeomerus says:

In ancient Greece flankers and skirmishers called peltasts carried a light curve shield called a pelta and fought with slings and javelins mostly.

  50. Mike LaRoche says:

Oops, those question marks in my comment above were supposed to be note symbols.

  51. happyfeet says:

on second thought I’m starting to think maybe this Mr. Savage has a point

  52. palaeomerus says:

So, is this the part where I post an article about a gay person doing something unacceptable and suggest that this is an institutional problem with all gays and that maybe Westboro Baptist church has a point ?

    Yawn.

    have at it

  57. bh says:

on second thought I’m starting to think maybe this Mr. Savage has a point

Maybe we should take Mr. Savage as a whole. Giant dickhead.

Maybe we should take Christianity as a whole. Not a giant dickhead.

Towards that link? I’m not gonna nominate that guy as father of the year. You know who else I wouldn’t nominate father of the year? The ones who don’t keep score during sports or pretend that story-telling group sessions will get you a job.

All that said, no, you really shouldn’t freak out on your kid because he’s acting gay. He might be gay. And they you’d feel really stupid and mean. Your kid was gay but you treated him like some other kid instead. That’s gotta be some sort of sin or another.

  62. bh says:

To be fair, we were just demanding — yesterday? — any anecdotal evidence to back up the contention that people were using religion to be slightly less than cool to the gay peoples.

That “give him a good punch” and “You are authorized. I just gave you a special dispensation this morning to do that” fit the bill.

Doesn’t necessarily mean something significant on the whole but we were just asking for it.

  63. palaeomerus says:

Either Savage is right, or he ain’t.

  64. leigh says:

I’m feeling bullied, pala. Those links are way harsh.

  65. palaeomerus says:

Savage is not complaining about a few nuts BTW. He says it is Christianity that bullies. The walkin’ out pansy kind.

  66. happyfeet says:

Mr. Savage as a whole is a giant dickhead. I knew that when he started talking about how he’s someone who’s been on the receiving end of beating justified by the bible and then I googled and googled and couldn’t find anywhere that he’d ever been beaten. That’s like some kind of stolened gay-bashy valor, and it’s wrong. For shame Mr. Savage. For shame.

But I guess he has a point that some people use their faith to justify being mean to kids. That is a very startling video.

  67. BT says:

I hate it when they don’t keep score in sports. My grandson is playing soccer this spring (4 year old league) and they don’t keep score and the poor kids act all sociable and let each player have a turn kicking the ball even though not taking turns would allow them to score a goal or stop a goal from being scored. I mean if you are going to get the bruises you might as well get the bragging rights.

    Drives me crazy.

  68. palaeomerus says:

2012 : The year that people learned that you can effectively bully someone by accusing them of being a bully.

  69. Jeff G. says:

on second thought I’m starting to think maybe this Mr. Savage has a point

Generally in his ass. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Unless the thought of a man jamming his cock into another man’s ass doesn’t appeal to you. In which case, you’re just a bigot, so fuck you.

  70. BT says:

Happy while you are googling could search for where in the Bible gay beatings are justified? I don’t recall it being in the Baltimore Catechism.

  71. happyfeet says:

I’m not talking about generally Mr. Jeff I’m talking about specifically, which is different

  72. leigh says:

Probably because it isn’t, BT. That guy in the link is a fundie and obviously a bit unhinged.

  73. bh says:

Savage is not complaining about a few nuts BTW. He says it is Christianity that bullies.

You are absolutely right. Savage is an enormous asshole. He’s wrong. Siple as that.

And this new guy probably is one of those rare nuts. Maybe. I guess. (I phrase it like that because I don’t live in all of America all the time.)

But, I was just saying that it’s hard to even find a single instance anywhere of a person doing such a thing and then, bam, here it is. Which sorta sucks.

  74. happyfeet says:

Mr. BT the bible says you have to kill the gay peoples to where they die. You say bible, oh no you di’in’t. But yup it’s right there in Leviticus.

  75. bh says:

Blockquote missing on the first sentence above.

  76. bh says:

We’ve discussed the Old Testament and Christians, ‘feets. Savage keeps talking about Christians. Leviticus doesn’t apply. (For the record, I haven’t heard about any Orthodox Jews killing their sons either though in case we’re gonna get worried about that.) The New Testament seems to just say that if you’re a male male-sexer, you’re not going to heaven. No one has to kill you.

If you bring that up again that’s gotta be in bad faith.

  77. palaeomerus says:

    Old testament. Leviticus.

    —–

Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the LORD, who makes you holy.

If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head.

If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife–with the wife of his neighbor–both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

If a man sleeps with his father’s wife, he has dishonored his father. Both the man and the woman must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

If a man sleeps with his daughter-in-law, both of them must be put to death. What they have done is a perversion; their blood will be on their own heads.

If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is wicked. Both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that no wickedness will be among you.

If a man has sexual relations with an animal, he must be put to death, and you must kill the animal.

If a woman approaches an animal to have sexual relations with it, kill both the woman and the animal. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

If a man marries his sister, the daughter of either his father or his mother, and they have sexual relations, it is a disgrace. They must be cut off before the eyes of their people. He has dishonored his sister and will be held responsible.

If a man lies with a woman during her monthly period and has sexual relations with her, he has exposed the source of her flow, and she has also uncovered it. Both of them must be cut off from their people.

Do not have sexual relations with the sister of either your mother or your father, for that would dishonor a close relative; both of you would be held responsible. If a man sleeps with his aunt, he has dishonored his uncle. They will be held responsible; they will die childless. If a man marries his brother’s wife, it is an act of impurity; he has dishonored his brother. They will be childless.

Keep all my decrees and laws and follow them, so that the land where I am bringing you to live may not vomit you out.

So Dan Savage condemns all practicing Jews as well and any Christian-ish derivative that subscribes to the teachings of the old testament.

    (And probably includes Muslims)

  78. palaeomerus says:

Why do Gayers hate Christers so much?

  79. BT says:

Leviticus is superseded by the New Testament is it not, which is all about love love love.

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”

and this from an agnostic leaning towards the theist side.

  80. happyfeet says:

Savage is not complaining about a few nuts BTW. He says it is Christianity that bullies.

We’ll just talk about the Bible for a second. People often point out that they can’t help it — they can’t help with the anti-gay bullying, because it says right there in Leviticus, it says right there in Timothy, it says right there in Romans, that being gay is wrong.

it sounds to me like he’s talking about *some* people not all people – but for sure he’s only talking about bullies, not all beliebers… it’s more like he says we have this stipulated x number of people what bully gay kids, and then he says y% of those use the bible as a justification

so we can bicker about what x and y represent, but he’s not saying Christianity is at fault he clearly says people what are bullies…

he comes back to that at the end…

I have a right to defend myself. And to point out the hypocrisy of people who justify anti-gay bigotry by pointing to the Bible, and insisting we must live by the code of Leviticus on this one issue and no other.

So no he’s not complaining about a few nuts, but nor is he complaining about Christianity as a whole. He’s talking about people who use very specific bible bits to justify being mean.

People like our friend Sean Harris, who you may remember was the guy we saw on the video here.

  81. happyfeet says:

I am very big on the New Testament Mr. BT zacchaeus was a wee little man and a wee little man was he! Tree-climbing adventures ensue!

  82. palaeomerus says:

Yeah but Savage doesn’t care about that. He wants us to ignore the stupid bullshit parts of the bible (as he chooses them) and stop beating up gays (beating up other random fuckers is perfectly fine I guess) or we are pansies. I don’t actually beat up gays or anyone (unless they attack me or put out signals that they are about t attack me) but I’m a fuckin’ Christer bully anyway. My actual individual conduct is unimportant to Savage. My politically useful categorization as a target group guilty of crimes is what is important.

That is why I object when people say Savage may be right and then post a sermon by a nut.

    I don’t need to be a weatherman.

  83. palaeomerus says:

    ” People often ”

    Lie.

  84. leigh says:

It sounds to me, happy, like Savage has a problem with religion.

He should be straight with us. Honest. Get it off his chest and stop impugning nice people what love Jesus and Moses.

  85. happyfeet says:

If you bring that up again that’s gotta be in bad faith.

It’s not *my* argument it’s Mr. Savage’s, wherein he makes clear as clear can be that he’s not blanket-condemning Christianity, just people what would mis-use the text for to cause harm to people, specifically gay kids. He’s the *first* one to say some parts of the Old Testament have been rendered bullshit by the passage of time and the evolution of civilization.

  86. happyfeet says:

    ” People often ”

I think it’s clear Mr. P that he’s speaking of people here as a subset of those what are mean bullies.

  87. happyfeet says:

It sounds to me, happy, like Savage has a problem with religion.

he’s a very grumpy person I think, and also smarmy

  88. leigh says:

He’s a jerk and his boyfriend is ugly and dresses funny.

  89. palaeomerus says:

People, bullies or otherwsie, simply do not often justify beating and bullying homosexuals with Leviticus Tmiothy and Romans to Dan Savage. That is a lie. At the very least it is a hyperbole. Either was it is le bull shit.

  90. BT says:

Jesus was a lot more cordial to a revenuer than i would be.

  91. leigh says:

Jesus was a tableflipper. It must have been quite a sight.

  92. palaeomerus says:

    An hyperbole?

Anyway, he’s using “bullying” as his excuse to throw rocks at the dumb pansy-assed christers.

  93. happyfeet says:

well then maybe you can help him better understand the root causes of why gay childrens get bullied, cause if you see that your brother in Christ has lost his way, offer him the fruis of your understandings! – and then juice them!

    yum!

  94. BT says:

So are we concluding that those walking out of Savages talk were bullies instead of Christians not happy with being scapegoated?

  95. palaeomerus says:

Jesus beat agricultural merchants with whips. Often.

  96. happyfeet says:

    *fruits* I mean

  97. bh says:

‘Feets, you really have to grok this specific because it’s relevant to the argument. Leviticus hasn’t been rendered bullshit by time or societal evolution to Christians. To be extremely specific, we’re talking about different covenants with different groups.

This doesn’t involve ignoring or time-increases-bullshit-recognition or societal evolution. Abraham was a Jew (a super Jew!). Peter was a Christian (a super Christian!). These are relevant distinctions. They matter.

  98. happyfeet says:

Jesus beat agricultural merchants with whips. Often.

and you saw how Jesus ended up

  99. leigh says:

Maybe he’s secretly longing for a beat-down, so he can have some street cred.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up with some sort of injury that can be self-inflicted and tries to pass it off as angry Christer dads of those kids who walked out bringing it to him.

  100. bh says:

It’s not very hard to grasp. It’s easy to grasp. It was a thing I grasped as a very small child like a half pint of chocolate milk or my mittens.

If Savage pretends he can’t do this, I call bullshit. If you keep pretending you can’t, I also call bullshit.

  101. palaeomerus says:

” well then maybe you can help him better understand the root causes of why gay childrens get bullied,”

Sure. Then I’ll explain to Louis Farrakhan that there is no ancient mother-ship shaped like a wheel up in space nor were white people a failed soulless lab experiment from a mad African scientist during a lost age of pre-white superscience.

  102. palaeomerus says:

” and you saw how Jesus ended up”

    He got better.

  103. happyfeet says:

bh I get that – I think Dan gets that – Dan is saying there are thems what don’t get that what he thinks are part of the problem

in other words I think Dan would be very pleased if, pursuant to his speech, you endeavoured to help people understand that Leviticus is not applicable no mores

I think Dan would be very pleased with you indeed.

  104. Jeff G. says:

So no he’s not complaining about a few nuts, but nor is he complaining about Christianity as a whole. He’s talking about people who use very specific bible bits to justify being mean.

He’s a douche. And those who run interference for douches are — what? discharge?

I’m not really sure. But it’s probably not nice.

  105. leigh says:

You should talk to the Scientologists about Xanu, to.

  106. happyfeet says:

He may be a douche Mr. Jeff I fully grant you but he is a douche what speaks with a certain amount of precision to where it’s not terribly hard to grasp his intent in his infamous speech at the teen christian journalism conference

  107. Jeff G. says:

bh I get that – I think Dan gets that – Dan is saying there are thems what don’t get that what he thinks are part of the problem

And yes, I’m aware that the first name familiarity is meant to wind people up even more.

I’m hip, as the kids say. Or did. Whatever.

  108. palaeomerus says:

” I think Dan would be very pleased with you indeed.”

I think Dan is using Leviticus to make crowds mad at me and other people like me, and implying that being mad at me and intimidating me and criminalizing me somehow ends bullying. I think Dan is profiting from doing this.

  109. Jeff G. says:

I grasped his INTENT. And yeah, those little digs stopped working on me. Because I know you.

  110. newrouter says:

    why gay childrens get bullied

kids get bullied all the time. pansies complain about it.

  111. Jeff G. says:

Okay, I have other shit to do.

If you all want to indulge happy yet again, have at it. It ain’t like I didn’t post this the way I did just to get this reaction out of him.

  112. newrouter says:

his infamous speech at the teen christian journalism conference

    yes let’s make up shit.

  113. happyfeet says:

Mr. palamine that is very cynical, and I think at the least you might want to hear the entirety of Mr. dan’s keynote speech before arriving at such a jaundiced view

  114. happyfeet says:

    yes let’s make up shit.

yeah I was just having a little fun there Mr. newrouter

    busted

  115. happyfeet says:

I have to go too Mr. Jeff I have a report due in morning and so I needs must slumber

  116. bh says:

in other words I think Dan would be very pleased if, pursuant to his speech, you endeavoured to help people understand that Leviticus is not applicable no mores

In the first dickhead speech he gave he mixed references to the Old and New Testament. He’s not trying to do any such thing. He’s not giving some reasoned argument here. He’s being a dickhead. A lazy, incoherent dickhead.

Give me a sec. I’ll find the relevant quote.

  117. Darleen says:

that some people use their faith to justify

Finish that sentence however you want

and remember, Savage is working from a faith base, too

  118. bh says:

“People often point out that… they can’t help with the anti-gay bullying because it says right there in Leviticus, it says right there in Timothy, it says right there in Romans, that being gay is wrong,” Savage tells the crowd in a short video posted on Tumblr by a student attendee.

He’s not trying to convince me to tell people that Leviticus isn’t binding on Christians. That’s just false.

  119. palaeomerus says:

” Mr. palamine that is very cynical, and I think at the least you might want to hear the entirety of Mr. dan’s keynote speech before arriving at such a jaundiced view”

Sounds like a lot of naive Pollyanna bullshit Mr. Hippyfart. 40 years of context has shown me what’s up with anti-bullying.

  120. Darleen says:

endeavoured to help people understand that Leviticus is not applicable no mores

How nice that Christophobes and anti-semites get to pick and choose what Christians and Jews are allowed to believe.

  121. palaeomerus says:

” He’s a douche. And those who run interference for douches are — what? discharge?
I’m not really sure. But it’s probably not nice.”

Douche enablers, harbingers, infiltrators, sappers (as in open the gate! Collapse the walls), apologists…that sort of thing.

  122. newrouter says:

How nice that Christophobes and anti-semites get to pick and choose what Christians and Jews are allowed to believe.

oh to be dropped off a ten story building in teheran. that’s fabulous!

  123. palaeomerus says:

” kids get bullied all the time. pansies complain about it.”

Yeah and the best part of the system is that if you follow your dad’s advice and stand up to the bullies you not only get clobbered by kids who pile on you for daring to buck the system but the teacher sees it and reports you as a quasi-psycho or a rage case with an aggression problem and you get to get evaluated by a child psychologist who tells your mother that you are kind of an asshole who should be in a private school where smaller kids just get shoved and name called instead of pounded on, and the teacher’s can keep a better eye on the little borderline-asperger’s creeps.

  124. palaeomerus says:

” oh to be dropped off a ten story building in teheran. that’s fabulous!”

Nope. It’s all about how America is the nexus of all that is wrong and evil. Tehran is a different culture and you need to respect that. And don’t bother with any numbers or per capita statistics. That is such a WESTERN approach to problems solving. Very patriarchal and left brained. Try looking at the deeper nuances for once.

  125. palaeomerus says:

” well then maybe you can help him better understand the root causes of why gay childrens get bullied,”

BTW Dan Savage was brought up as a Catholic so he already KNOWS about Leviticus and Christianity. He doesn’t care. He’s telling crowds what a shit those Christers are and it’s just business to him. Grievance is a profitable industry with high margins. You get people to pay you to blame other people for various problems and then you tell them that they are good people who are doing good by rattling cages and shouting people down. The more people in your crowd the more you get paid. Then you rent them out to activist causes to wave signs and you get paid even more.

  126. happyfeet says:

He’s not trying to convince me to tell people that Leviticus isn’t binding on Christians. That’s just false.

I didn’t say that’s what he was saying I said he would be happy “if, pursuant to his speech, you endeavoured to help people understand that Leviticus is not applicable no mores.”

I don’t think he cares *why* people disavow the anti-gay parts of the bible, he just wants it to where nobody points to those bits to justify the bullyings. Which, ok. I for one promise not to point to bible bits to justify bullying gay people.

    Done and done.

  127. bh says:

C’mon, ‘feets. This is actually bugging me now. How am I supposed to read “pursuant to his speech” if I can’t then quote his actual speech and show how your characterization is once again off?

Can’t we even nudge you over the extremely forgiving Perez Hilton line? That seems like the very definition of a lowest common denominator.

  128. Mike LaRoche says:

That was in response to happyfeet’s last comment.

  129. Mike LaRoche says:

    BTW, I hate the Lakers.

  130. happyfeet says:

sorry – “pursuant to” used to just mean “following” – meaning that Mr. dan would have been just ducky if after you’d heard the speech you took it upon yourself to explain to christians that leviticus had no applicability for them

  131. bh says:

I also hate the Lakers, Mike. Not just the current Lakers either. Many different incarnations of Lakers I hate.

  132. happyfeet says:

but honestly i think I got that wrong I think I remember something about pursuant and nymphs but now that i think about it I think they were just talking about running after the nymphs, not following in the sense of something happens after something else

so “pursuant” to was a bad choice of words I just wanted “after”

  133. happyfeet says:

now for reals I have to go to bed ok Mr. bh my pills are kicking my ass

  134. happyfeet says:

    ok

  135. Mike LaRoche says:

I also hate the Lakers, Mike. Not just the current Lakers either. Many different incarnations of Lakers I hate.

Same here. I’ve hated them since the days of Kareem, Magic, and Pat Riley. Bastards, every single one of them. Then, now, and forever.

  136. bh says:

I suppose I could explain to Christians what they should think about this or that but then I’d probably talk nonsense like Savage does.

Well, not really, I’ve had some education, I don’t live in a bubble and don’t talk out my ass. I guess that would be more like if I suddenly walked back to Boy’s Town and told the guys about how they were supposed to feel about things.

Let me tell you a story about Boy’s Town. At first I lived within blocks of the Man Hole. Which was funny because “Man Hole” is just funny. Then I moved to Boy’s Town above a gay bar because the neighborhood was very nice, the rent was good, and I was about five blocks from the train. I don’t want to brag here but I think I had 1,000 beers downstairs and never once felt the need to talk out my ass to them about the Bible.

    Cheers, bh. Cheers, gay bh.

Again, this seems like a very low bar for Dan Savage to pass.

*I was an enormous alcoholic. That was about a year.

  137. bh says:

Same here. I’ve hated them since the days of Kareem, Magic, and Pat Riley. Bastards, every single one of them. Then, now, and forever.

    You, sir, know what’s up.

  138. palaeomerus says:

I’d hate the Dallas Cowboys but it’d be a waste of time because their owner seems to hate them more than I ever could.

  139. palaeomerus says:

“sorry – “pursuant to” used to just mean “following” – meaning that Mr. dan would have been just ducky if after you’d heard the speech you took it upon yourself to explain to christians that leviticus had no applicability for them”

Because Christians totally need to be told that because they all routinely beat up gay people while quoting Leviticus. Right? That’s an epidemic going around that Dan Savage is just honesty and accurately reacting to in good faith right?

  140. happyfeet says:

the vast majority of the Christians in the auidience didn’t freak out and get all butt-hurt – just a smidge did – and most of them were from a special school just for christers

christers don’t like Dan Savage speeches?

    they don’t have to go

and in the future they won’t have any excuse, now that the veil has been lifted from their eyes

    done and done

  141. palaeomerus says:

” the vast majority of the Christians in the auidience didn’t freak out and get all butt-hurt – just a smidge did – and most of them were from a special school just for christers ”

So what? How many Christers are actually beating up gay people because of Leviticus? Is Dan Savage a know career jerk who is full of shit or isn’t he?

” christers don’t like Dan Savage speeches?
they don’t have to go ”

That’s very generous and irrelevant of you. And if Gayers don’t like Leviticus then they don’t have to try and get it changed by heckling Christers at “antibullying” rallies either.

” and in the future they won’t have any excuse, now that the veil has been lifted from their eyes ”

Any excuse for what? Is an significant portion of Christers actually ritually beating up gays because Leviticus tells them to? Map that and quantify it. I don’t believe that it is happening. And if there is a group doing it then why isn’t Dan Savage directly targeting them ? What veil ? Just how frivolously stupid are your responses going to get? Why is Dan Savage’s premise even being taken seriously given the actual evidence?

    “done and done ”

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.

  142. BT says:

I thought Sutter Union was a public school. That is where the demonized Jenny Patterson attended.

  143. palaeomerus says:

” a know career jerk” -> a known career jerk

  144. palaeomerus says:

” Is an significant portion” -> is any significant portion

  145. happyfeet says:

Sutter Union just brought 6 kids and not all of them walked out it seems – the rest were from a religious school I can track it down laters

those are good questions Mr. P but I’m sleepy like a banshee

  146. Jeff G. says:

Next up, happy proposes some FABULOUS separate but equal laws for Christers.

  147. happyfeet says:

    *audience* I mean

  148. Dale Price says:

If only it were *possible* to get an understanding of how orthodox Christians have read the Old Testament ceremonial and moral law in light of the fact they don’t adhere to the former.

If only such knowledge was contained in portable, easily-acquired written form.

If only such things were available commercially from private sellers, or maintained in archives supported by local governments where they could be temporarily acquired and perused at leisure.

But, no, such things do not exist.

So back to “Hahahaha, Jews and shellfish!”

  149. leigh says:

Geoffb is Orthodox. He could help you here, but I believe he is staying out of it.

I have never heard a sermon rallying Catholics to go forth and beat some homos.

  150. Abe Froman says:

I have never heard a sermon rallying Catholics to go forth and beat some homos.

Probably because they don’t want them to storm the rectory.

  151. McGehee says:

    Rectory!? It nearly killed’ery!

  152. leigh says:

Abe, that was too easy. I’ll cut you some slack since it’s early.

  153. Abe Froman says:

One doesn’t blame the hitter for a hanging curve ball.

  154. leigh says:

    Touche.

  155. Dale Price says:

leigh, I chose small-o “orthodox” deliberately. It embraces Christians of all stripes (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, evangelical, Pentecostal, etc.) who regard the Bible as a reliable, divinely-protected authority, the primary or even sole source of Christian faith and proclamation.

And not, say, as a collection of quaint fables occasionally cherry-picked for left-wing “social-justice” or leveling purposes.

  156. leigh says:

Thanks, Dale. Stupid multi-tasking always causes mistakes for me.

  157. Dale Price says:

Oh, don’t sweat it. I’m not the clearest writer on the block, that’s for sure.
