"Herman Cain meets the D.C. media's scandal factory"

It ain’t just the liberal media, either, let me say: many Perry supporters (and a rather tedious Romney supporter, who’d been spending much of her time prior to the Cain story going after Perry) have showed quite a bit of “concern” over what this story “means” — and have joined the left in mostly moving off of actual “sexual harassment” charges to the supposedly sophisticated, politically trenchant question: “is the cover-up, proven by Cain’s clarifications over the course of the day yesterday, worse than the crime? And does Cain’s campaign’s handling of the scandal show how unprepared he is for President?”

Payback for Cain’s refusal to give Perry a pass (which he deserved, by the way, having been faultness in yet another manufactured “scandal” aimed at a conservative candidate) on some infamously painted rock?

Who knows. What I do know is that this has been an orchestrated hit piece by an ideological media outlet working overtime to build its objective credentialing — and that, once again, a number of putative conservatives have taken the bait, ignored related testimony, and joined in with the faux-conservatives to help make sure we 1) nominate the least conservative, most pro-status quo candidate the GOP can dredge up for us; and 2) lend credence and power to these kind of obvious hit jobs and phony “journalists.”

It’s a shame, really. Because it plays out this way election season after election season.

Congrats, folks. You get what you deserve.

And what is the allegation exactly? There isn’t one. “Something.” Like what? “I dunno, but it’s REALLY IMPORTANT!!!”

Apparently, the important thing is that Cain changed his story between the time it was reported and the first time he said a single thing about it.

These people are retarded. And by that, I mean the right.

  3. happyfeet says:

even if Cain was a poopyhead about the rock that doesn’t alleviate Team Perry of the responsibility of speaking out against this kind of politico-style attack poodle propaganda

Perry’s cowardly silence speaks volumes about his character

    We are all Greece now.

  5. It’s the seriousness of the accusations that is important, or at least that’s been the game plan ever since the October surprise against GHW Bush.

  6. happyfeet says:

Perry’s cowardly silence speaks volumes about his character especially after he had to endure the Macaca Post’s baseless charges of racisms

Why we’re supposed to hold our nose and think of England vote for Romney.

    He can WIN you rubes.

Get over this Cain thing. Ace is tired of explaining this stuff to you as well.

  8. I do wonder from whence the wise men of Greece imagine the next round of funding will spring forth.

Strong rumor has it that this is from the Perry camp. One might consider the fact that it’s half baked as evidence.

  11. bh says:

I’d keep in mind that Politico also traffics in strong rumors.

  12. Ernst Schreiber says:

So how’d this weak rumor make it through all those layers upon layers of fact innuendo checkers?

  13. bh says:

Should have just said “rumor” rather than “strong rumor”. For what it’s worth, I’ve found the evidence of a Perry maneuver to be just as weak as the actual Politico story.

I suggested the other day to McCain that everyone probably had this. (Ace has since said that he had this a long time ago, for instance. If Ace had it, every single one of the campaigns had it. Guaranteed.) So, if everyone had the opportunity then we have to look at motive. That’s a long list.

I doubt this will be resolved and all speculation is likely to be entirely fact-free.

  14. happyfeet says:

Perry’s silence does little to refute the rumor. Boy-o is rapidly losing what little traction he ever had with me.

  15. geoffb says:

I would have even less trust for any media outing of a Republican “source” of the Politico piece than I have of the piece itself. It would be an obvious twofer for them to do and perfectly non-falsifiable.

  16. sdferr says:

I’m guessing the next bullshit story will be that the Cain campaign put the accusations out surreptitiously themselves.

  17. Pablo says:

The thing with Perry is that he stands to benefit most from it (what with Cain having stolen his base), and also people in his Arizona camp were alluding to an oppo dump on Cain. Plus, it’s half baked.

  18. bh says:

Every not-Romney is equally motivated. They’re all going for that same base. And that tweet from the low level Arizona operative? Not someone you’re gonna run high level opp research past beforehand. Besides, I’ve been hearing “wait until people find out” about every single candidate. That’s the norm.

Could it be Perry? Sure. Could it be anyone else? Just as surely.

  19. bh says:

It lacks the fun of guessing the offending campaign but I’m wondering if there might not be a simpler explanation.

Seems to me if she’s talked to Politico she’s already breached the agreement.
