Plight of the poor in Obama's new America

As Victor Davis Hanson describes them, many of the contemporary “poor” are part of a class of savvy system abusers and civic thieves who extend the metaphor into the spaces inside other people’s homes, sheds, businesses, etc.

As prc notes, “not exactly the Joads, eh?”

I read the VDH piece. Nothing a NO TRESSPASSING sign and a good sniper hide won’t cure. He could probably sell tickets to people willing to snipe.

When half of the vehicles in the public parking at the county welfare office are Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and Cadillac Escalades, you know something is amiss…

As I think I’ve mentioned in the past, I worked at a Circle K in AZ for a few months.

Our EBT (electronic welfare machine) didn’t work.

Every single time a customer tried to use an EBT card for purchases and couldn’t, they shrugged and paid cash.

And, to go along with what you said, Spiny, almost all of the welfare customers were driving late model cars.

I was recently approached at my bus stop by a guy wanting “fiddy cent fo da bus.” I said I’d do better than that; I’d give him ten bucks for his licensed Vikings cap with the tag conspicuously hanging from it. He declined.

“Guess I can’t help you, then.”

  5. DarthLevin says:

Squid, you are clearly a class warrior and greedy. How dare you suggest a transaction resulting in mutual benefit? Your actions will incite a Day Of Raaaaaage!!!!

  6. Squid says:

Yup. We’ve reached the point where the guy who wants to keep what he earns is greedy, and the guy who wants to force it from him is noble. Poverty means struggling to pay for your wireless data plan and your pay-per-view bill. Our “first black president” is either a chubby white lip-biter from Arkansas or a skinny half-white preppy from Hawaii.

Black is white; up is down; Hagar is Roth.

Sept 20 (Reuters) – Solyndra LLC’s chief executive and chief financial officer will invoke their Fifth Amendment rights and decline to answer any questions put to them at a Congressional hearing on Friday, according to letters from their attorneys obtained by Reuters.

In the letters sent to the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, attorneys for Solyndra CEO Brian Harrison and CFO W. G. Stover said they advised their clients not to provide testimony during the hearings…

I’d call that dancing boondoggle totally gay, but I’m sure there’s another million-dollar stimulus program that was created to discourage me from using such language.

Hey just for the record the Philadelphia eagles are bitching about the falcons playing rough on Sunday and knocking mike Vick out of the game which if you fpget the irony of that and the awesomeness of mike Vick getting knocked out of the game by the mean old falcons and big ole mean matt Ryan standing right in there and throwing two touchdowns, well, just thought I’d mention that.

    Mike Vick is a bitch.

With the introduction of The American Jobs Act, Americans may soon witness a rerun of the Obama healthcare struggle. Much like its predecessor, president Obama’s newest bill contains certain provisions that would appear to benefit those who wrote the bill more than those for whom the bill was supposedly written.

For instance, buried deep, deep on page 133 of the bill, it states:

SEC. 376. FEDERAL AND STATE IMMUNITY.

    (a) Abrogation of State Immunity- A State shall not be immune under the 11th Amendment to the Constitution from a suit brought in a Federal court of competent jurisdiction for a violation of this Act.

Come again? Under the bill’s authority, states are not immune from federal prosecution if they “violate” the act. In the event this bill passes, it will override a state’s sovereign authority as defined and protected under the 11th amendment:

The Judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by Citizens of another State, or by Citizens or Subjects of any Foreign State.

I read that VDH link yesterday, but I’d already linked another, and besides, I thought this one kinda regional.

Yep, farmers in the central valley gotta nail down and guard anything they want to keep. The problem is the very large illegal immigrant population, and VDH perhaps misses the irony that farmers created the demand for illegal immigrants in the first place.

Now demand for illegals has cut down, the ones that used to work for a guy last month still remember where he kept his shit. Valuable information.

Gangs are pretty ridiculous too. In my small(farming) town of 50,000, gang shootings are not uncommon, and kids don’t wear blue or red sneakers. Well, unless they’re in a gang, then it’s also a red(or blue) bandana, tattoos, and extremely baggy pants. An ensemble you might call it.

Anyway, the guys VDH described…that’s the face of La Raza. The ones Obama campaigns for.

Obama digs him some cultural unrest.

  24. LBascom says:

Oh, I forgot to mention, a guy hiking in the national forests in California best approach it like 1970 Vietnam.

  27. LBascom says:

I’m pretty proud of Fresno by the way…

Fresno County Supervisors on Tuesday turned their backs on millions in federal money that would have been used to start a new healthcare program for the poor.

The county had applied for $56 million in federal money, but to get it, would have had to put up $18 million of its own money–money that is now allocated to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of indigents and undocumented residents.

  28. ccs says:

Then there was George Bush’s 2008 multitrillion-dollar “stimulus” that “saved” the country, but destroyed the real progress he had made from 2006 to 2008 in addressing mounting debt. Then there was Barack Obama’s “second” $800 million “shovel-ready” stimulus.

From the VDH link. Notice a small typo?

  29. LBascom says:

    “Notice a small typo?”

    Multitrillion?

Nah, only Obama, Nancy, and Harry could conceeve spending that much…

  30. geoffb says:

I did not know that a law could overthrow/repeal a Constitutional amendment. The things our dear constitutional scholar done learned me now.

  31. cranky-d says:

And, of course, Obama’s stimulus was $800 billion.

  32. LBascom says:

Trillions, billions, millions, those are all big numbers. Not that much difference between them, really…

Shock poll: Palin w/in 5 points of Obama.

    Hoochie Power!

  34. geoffb says:

the new national survey, taken Sept. 13-14, found Palin trailing the president by just 5 points, 49-44 percent. The key reason: She now leads Obama among independents, a sharp turnaround.
    […]
Obama is neck and neck with Romney, leading by 46-44. Obama had led by 5 points in August, 4 points in June, and 1 point in April. Romney now leads among independents, 44 percent to 40 percent.

Obama leads Perry by 50 percent to 41 percent. They split independents 43-43. Obama had led Perry by 19 points in August, as Perry was joining the campaign.

Obama leads Bachmann 53 percent to 40 percent. He had led her by 17 points in August, by 12 points in June.

Hmmm, Palin doing better than Perry and among independents too.

When half of the vehicles in the public parking at the county welfare office are Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and Cadillac Escalades, you know something is amiss…

To be fair, Spiny, most of those are the county workers’ cars. I worked with 4 social workers. Two of them drove new Lexuses (Lexi?) and one of them drove a new Mercedes. The other drove a Honda civic. She was the practical one. But if you ask them to be more in line with the average worker in terms of paying into their retirement or health care, you’re Hitler or something. They just don’t get that they are net consumers of tax money, thus leeches on the public teat. These people are greedy POS.
