"Gallup: Uninsured Have Increased Under Obama and Since Obamacare Was Enacted"

Hope and Change!

The percentage of American adults who lack health insurance coverage has not only increased during the presidency of Barack Obama, but it has continued to increase since Obama signed his signature piece of legislation last year mandating that by 2014 every American carry health insurance, according to a Gallup survey released today.

In 2008, when George W. Bush was president, according to Gallup, 14.9 percent of adult residents of the United States lacked health insurance coverage. That increased to 16.2 percent in 2009, the year that Obama was inaugurated, and to 16.4 percent in 2010, the year that Obama signed his law requiring that all Americans have health insurance.

In the first half of this year, according to data released by Gallup today, the percentage of adults in the United States lacking health insurance ticked up to 16.8 percent.

We had to pass the thing to see what was in it.

Well, then. Asked and answered.

does this have to do with the massive unemployment? I mean the rate of uninsured going up..it’s not just employers dumping coverage in advance of Obamacare..?
I know that our company’s policy rates hiked, because now they have to cover all the employees’ kids up to age 26.

    Is it November ’12 yet?

Sort of off-topic: Insurance got tied to employment because personal income tax rates were so frelling high that increasing benefits made more sense than increasing wages. I think it’s time to decouple them, and make health insurance more competitive. First, get rid of Obamacare, and then enact one change at a time in small, readable bills.

Ma’am, it is both. Employers don’t want to pay the massive cost (its almost like this was planned – private employers dumping people into GOVCARE…thanks O! and Nancy.) and there are fewer peole working to even have a chance at the benefits in the first place…

Only if you’re racist. There are some people out there who are not massive, and yet they may be unemployed. They might also have less than ideal health insurance. I have a friend at the gym (more of an acquaintance, actually) who is really so tiny as to make even this Irish boy self conscious, who could probably use a job (Really, or at least a trim, I hear it adds half an inch.). The other day I was talking with our pool boy, a man who could prop up the sagging roof of my porch with his tallywhacker, and yet, massive as he may be, he’s working. He actually told me he was working “it” and though I don’t know what “it” is, I’m pretty sure he’s got insurance, since he took Mrs Cookies to the hospital the other day without asking for any money. The poor girl is still limping from whatever accident occurred that morning when I was out of town.
