Hey, D or JHo, if you’re online, Jeff’s busy at the moment if you’d like to post this news.

Ah well, on the brighter side, I just made the best sesame noodles I’ve ever eaten, so there’s that.

On the darker side, I wonder what S&P’s outlook would be if the Senate Democrats, short-circuiting the need for the Super-committee, were to simply adopt the already passed Ryan Budget plan for 2012, with its projected $6+Trillion reduction in spending spread over ten years and its more or less aggressive growth promotion and incentivization? But they don’t really say.

I’m just glad it’s Saturday already in the East. It’ll be nice to have a weekend for everyone to digest this. Not a surprise to many but maybe an extra 48 hours will let the shock wear off for the others.

  9. sdferr says:

I was just now musing on whether Sen Webb, sitting in the President’s chair, and joined by a couple of other sympathetic souls among the Dems, (who? I don’t know. Blanche Lincoln? Ben Nelson?) and maybe one or two R’s who could attend in silence, couldn’t just pass the Ryan Budget by unanimous consent just as they’ve done with the FAA thing, only with the obvious difference that they’d be running against the current of their party. Still, it would be interesting as hell to see it happen, then to watch the aftermath!

AUSTIN – Standard & Poor’s (S&P) has raised Texas’ issuer credit and general obligation credit ratings to AA+ from AA based on the state’s strong and diverse economy and strong leadership from the governor and Legislature that has left a projected $9 billion in the state’s Rainy Day Fund. S&P also raised its rating on the state’s appropriation debt to AA from AA-.

“The ratings continue to reflect our opinion of the state’s large and steadily diversifying economy, which despite the recession continues to perform better than the nation in terms of both economic activity and employment,” S&P credit analyst Horacio Aldrete-Sanchez said. “Furthermore, we expect that the Texas economy will recover earlier and at a faster rate than most other states given its continued population growth and relatively low cost of doing business, which we expect will contribute to gradual employment gains in 2010, particularly in the health, education and services sectors.”

S&P’s decision was based on Texas’ 2010-11 biennial budget, the state’s strong Rainy Day Fund, and Texas’ low tax-supported debt burden. The higher rating means Texas will pay lower interest on money it borrows, saving of millions of taxpayer dollars.

So, the US’ rating dropped from AAA to AA+, and Texas’ rating rose from AA to AA+.

    They’re currently equal.

    time to be partying

The parties just keep coming for birthday-boy Barack Obama. After a Chicago fund-raiser the night before he turned 50 and a White House party on the big ay, a third event is now planned for New York. This time it is high-powered movie mogul Harvey Weinstein who will host the president at his Big Apple home, reports the New York Post.

And despite being described as “a small dinner and discussion” on the invitation, it will raise $2 million for the president’s reelection campaign and the Democratic National Committee. According to the NYP, the cost per couple to chow down is $71,600.

We also asked people if they believe bans on certain foods, such as nuts, from public places (think airplane cabins and lunchrooms) are an important safety measure. A majority — 59 percent — said the bans are OK by them.

hey bitch you can’t eat that in here it’s a public lunchroom what are you thinking

    I’m sorry I’m sorry

Oh for pity’s sake … as if a wild-eyed airline stew or lunchroom monitor is going to shove peanuts down your throat, ala Nancy Pelosi.
I’m allergic to fresh pineapple …. that spike of pineapple in the Mai Tai at the next table is not going to jump out of the glass and attack me.

The Left will and is already blaming the Tea Party and Republicans. The Right will and is blaming the growth of the federal debt and the refusal to deal with the unsustainable path created by the entitlement programs. This is a grinding battle that will lead to an intellectual and ideological stalemate. There’s truth to the Leftist charge that the conservative Republican decision to use the debt ceiling fight as leverage to force a cut in the national debt at a particularly risky time was unsound. But that is nothing next to the liberal fantasy that the U.S. can stay on the present course is the most destructive notion in present-day politics.*

    My emphasis.

    With friends like these…

  19. motionview says:

I wonder if anyone thinks that if we had adopted the TEA Party compromise plan of Cut, Cap, and Balance we would have gotten this down-grade?

  21. Jeff G. says:

Who cares what S&P actually said? We have competing narratives that will war it out, and the truth can fuck right off for the time being!

I think we should embrace and exploit the Hobbit/LOTR symbolism. The shire adainst the empire of Sauron. The common working folk against the legions of mindless orcish bureaucrats and the power twisted Gollums.

This could be a very funny and devastatingly effective campaign if used effectively.

  26. B. Moe says:

    Effective if used effectively?

Did I just say that out loud.
