"Dem Sen. Schumer Comes to Gingrich’s Defense"

Well, only in order to paint the modern GOP as extreme, by the standards of the 1990s. It never even occurs to Schumer that, rather than the party moving to the right, Gingrinch — who signed on to the global warming scam, vociferously defends ethanol subsidies, and seems not to understand the Constitutional problem of an individual mandate (unlike Heritage, which changed positions some years ago) — may have drifted left, that spending time in DC political circles tends to turn principle into pragmatism, or actual compromise into being compromised.

But then, do we expect anything different from a bottom-feeding propagandist like Schumer?

GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich got a shout-out from an unlikely and probably unwanted supporter: Sen. Charles Schumer. The New York Democrat says Republicans are unfairly turning the former House speaker into a “political outcast” for merely telling the truth about Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan.

The fracas shows that the Republican Party is a lot more extreme than it was in Gingrich’s heyday, Schumer says.

[…]

“I don’t think right-wing social engineering is any more desirable than left-wing social engineering,” Gingrich said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I don’t think imposing radical change from the right or the left is a very good way for a free society to operate.”

Gingrich called Ryan on Tuesday night to apologize to the Wisconsin congressman, a tea party favorite. He also warned Democrats not to use quotes from the interview in ads.

However, the Democratic National Committee is thumbing its nose at that warning, as Roll Call reports that it plans to release a video Thursday capitalizing on Gingrich’s comments. The video is expected to highlights the flak the former House speaker is taking from fellow Republicans.

And Schumer isn’t about to let the matter drop, either. He says Gingrich should be applauded for daring to speak what the Democrat calls an obvious truth.

“It was refreshing to hear such candor from a top Republican,” Schumer said.” “Gingrich was saying what everyone knows to be true: The plan is extreme.

“What Newt seems to realize is that it would be impossible to win the White House if they embrace the Ryan plan. If Republicans make endorsing the Ryan plan the standard in the Republican primary, it will make the nominee unelectable,” Schumer said.

Oh, so is that it, then, Chuck? You’re trying to help the GOP get elected now, providing conservatives with a template by which we might defeat the most HISTORICAL SMARTEST PRESIDENT EVAH?

Gee. Thanks, I guess.

Still, if it’s all the same to you, I think we’re capable of deciding for ourselves who we choose to run. And yes, I realize that such a concept — that we as adults know what we want, and don’t need to be told by people like you how we must think and act — is alien to you. But then, that’s why you’re a leftist propagandist, and we’re fighting to be free of you and your soul-sucking comrades.

Schumer to the defense of Teh Newt? That should be the final nail in his electoral coffin, but like a zombie, Newt won’t die right away. He’ll continue to shuffle along, looking for brains to eat turn to mush with his rhetoric.

  2. Bob Reed says:

Schumer “says”…If his lips are moving there were falsehoods involved, to be sure.

Guys like Schumer were decrying Gingrich as being an “extremist” back in the day! Suddenly, though, he’s “moderate” and “reasonable”.

As cranky said, Newt’s done. One needn’t have even paid attention to his asinine remarks over the last 10 days to know that he’s no real conservative, and not even a viable candidate. Because everyone should recognize what’s going on when Democrat officials and all of their punditry are praising a (alleged) Rethug!; it’s McCain 2008 all over again. They’re trying to pick their opponent, saving us all from ourselves, as it were.

Well no thanks Chuckie. I’d prefer an actual conservative to beat Obama, instead of just another RINO. Maybe Newt will run as a Dem, since y’all seem to think he’s suddenly “the shit”.

Bibi says Schumer can blow him too.

“Good news Mr Speaker, this is covered under the Ryan plan.”

    Schumer? What a putz.

A top Republican? A guy driven from office in 1998?

  7. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Besides the fact that Schumer is an incorrigible liar, he’s also pretty dumb, squid. Or he thinks other people are pretty dumb. Either way, to believe that nonsense, someone is pretty dumb.

  8. Squid says:

I kinda have to admit that it’s a masterful stroke by Schumer, though. With one little press conference, he paints any serious reform as “extreme,” and simultaneously plants the “Gingrich=Schumer” association in people’s brains, making Newt himself that much less electable.

That’s a lot of birds with one stone.

  9. McGehee says:

Schumer, of course, is only demonstrating why a fool like Gingrich should keep his mulderfelching mouth shut.

  10. Joe says:

Grigrich, reminding us what a dick he has always been.

    Schumer = Putz = Dick.

Check out the embedded link. The Lithgow performance of Gingrich’s speach is simply…magnificent.

And the image of Gingrich rising like sour dough he is made of, is one that I will not be able to erase from my memory.
