"Interior Secretary Says White House Opposes Drilling in Arctic Because It Will Not Lead to Energy Independence"

Green energy. That’s the way to go, according to Secretary Salazar.

And really, why aren’t you all clamoring for it? Hasn’t the Administration’s policies — all designed to drive up oil prices, to make gassing up your cars and heating your homes cost prohibitive, and to “nudge” you into accepting green energy as the affordable and eco-friendly wave of the future — taught you yet how you’re supposed to “voluntarily” behave?

Christ, can you rubes be nettlesome.

    Friedman can kiss my ass.

  2. Carin says:

Gasoline is almost $4 a gallon. We know that’s a red line where people really start to change their behavior. At a minimum, I’d be talking about a tax that basically says we’re going to keep it at $4. If it goes below we’ll true it up, if it goes above that we’re not going to touch it.

Yea, we’ll change our behavior. Like, no more traveling for vacation. Or eating, when our gas budget goes up $200 a month.

Oh, another behavior we’ll change – no more hiring at work. Fuel costs for those trucks.

  3. Jim in KC says:

Cities will be just great to live in once we all start burning our furniture to stay warm…

Or we could kill two birds with one stone and start “re-purposing” all those vacant houses as firewood.

  4. Carin says:

We’ll be able to hop on those trains.

Except we don’t live near one.

    Or work near one.

    Bollocks.

  5. Stephanie says:

OH come now. You don’t need electricity 24/7, do you?

One way to kill the right wing agitating against government boondoggles is to pull the plug on the electricity powering those pesky routers that they use to post those inconvenient truths. Who needs an internet kill switch when you can force the folks to just sit in the dark?

  6. Squid says:

In this, as in all things, when the Friedmans predict that we’re going to “change our behavior,” what goes unsaid is that we’ll change it in ways that they approve of.

Here’s a hint, Friedman & Friends: our indulgence of you and your fellow “experts” is a big part of our current behavior. You really wanna push us to change?

  7. ProfShade says:

The blueprints for living an eco-friendly and sustainable post-petroleum industrial society have already been laid before us in great detail in episode after episode of the Flinstones.

  8. LTC John says:

Having more domestically produced energy won’t lead to independence from other countries that supply that same energy…Got it!

    Another Nobel Prize, STAT!

  9. Stephanie says:

Another pesky problem for the Friedmans of the world is that the ‘change in our behavior’ is usually a change they haven’t anticipated or planned for.

The problem progs have while steering the car along the cliff is that pesky blind spot. It sucks to be hit from the side when your airbags are geared for frontal collisions.

  10. geoffb says:

The question that needs to be asked and answered is, “What’s the agenda Kenneth?”

  11. Ernst Schreiber says:

Whatever the agenda is, apparently it’s international.

  12. Blake says:

I’m so fucking sick of the fucking stupidity of these stupid fucking politicians.

I’m beginning to think these idiots are trying to provoke violence. Why else would Salazar say this kind of crap?

  13. Ernst Schreiber says:

Because, like Marie Antoinette before him, it gives him a coquettish titter to see the peasants riled up?

  14. Matty O says:

Wow, that is some world class ignorance. We are so boned.

  15. Slartibartfast says:

Green energy is not the way to energy independence, either. There’s not nearly enough of it to be had. Therefore: QUAGMIRE! MAY AS WELL GIVE UP!

  16. LBascom says:

“I’m beginning to think these idiots are trying to provoke violence”

I’ve been thinking that for awhile now. They need some mob violence to justify the coming police state.

    I know, that’s crazy talk.

  17. dicentra says:

Christ, can you rubes be nettlesome.

We wouldn’t be good rubes if we weren’t.

  18. Blake says:

Careful, LBascom, you’re approaching Glenn “Crazy Man” Beck territory with that kind of talk.

  19. cranky-d says:

Cold, dead hands and all that. It won’t be pretty.

  20. JimK says:

It’s really pathetic. GE used to have the best nuclear power plant engineers in the world. Not they’ve got squat. It’s really a shame because my inheritance such as it is, it tied up in GE stock.

It is very sad, and the thought of it fills me with dread, but I more and more get the feeling of being a cornered animal.

  22. Pablo says:

Policy must rely on universally perfect policies, like the ones that will provide energy in various unproven and unavailable technologies. The perfect may be the enemy of the good, but it’s apparently BFF’s with absolute fantasy.

  23. Blitz says:

The cost of a gallon of PRIMER just went up almost 1 buck…And I need qquarts of pear lum. I hate to think of that, I quoted 1200

  24. Blitz says:

Oh….I meant that to show that it hits us all…my bad

  28. Danger says:

    Oops
    Check THE half-pint hat…

  29. SteveG says:

Check this out… the electric bill is currently $8M annually… these fucking idiots want to spend somewhere from $900M to $1.9B to make the campuses “green”…. oh sure there’ll be a return in 100 years… fucking idiots..
I heard that so far they have spent $10M and can now light one bulb with wind energy… because it isn’t really all that consistently windy here… as research might have shown if the numbers weren’t being cooked

  30. SteveG says:

Forgot the link… too busy cursing the idiot morons who spawn this bullshit
