Loughner’s mental instability may have been suspected by friends and schools, but there was no record of it. His “troubled” brushes with the law may have been in arrests, but he had no convictions (completion of a diversion program means charges are dismissed).
Exactly how would such gun control laws have kept Loughner from passing the FBI background check as he did?

So, I see Democrats wanting people who want to buy firearms being forced to get a psych eval. I also see them putting up a national “register your ammo” database so the Feds know if you have “too much ammunition”.
Who’s going to decide what’s a bad “history of mental illness”? A hyperactive child? Someone who was treated for depression? Someone who registered Republican? Someone who’s been known to oppose Global Warming?
In the meantime, gang members get black-market guns and ammo without any of these checks.
That sounds like hate speech Jeff. You need to place your trust in dear leaders like Chuck Schumer, Raul Grijalva, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. And with friendly prosecutors to back up their plan, what is there to worry about? They would never go after a law abiding person. They know what is best for you.

Yes indeed! They could try Walmart next time, but there is a far higher possibility that someone might shoot back.
It is clear now that the media isn’t going to mention the bullseye from Kos. We need to contact our GOP reps and make it known that it needs to be known.
Unfortunately, the GOP establishment is probably giddy too that they can sit back and let the left try to weaken the TEA Party.
Fortunately, this isn’t 1995; let’s see how the right reacts.
I heard this morning (unverified as of yet) that one of the guys who helped restrain the shooter was carrying a gun. He put it away when he saw the shooter’s gun had been kicked away.
But he was prepared to use it.
We’ll see.

From the people I’ve spoken too (and I work at a university), it sounds like most think this guy was a deranged lunatic. Only a couple think he was a Tea Party Hit Man.

Yup. 24 year old. He didn’t have it drawn but he had the safety off and his hand on it. He was in Walgreen’s when he yeard the shooting and ran toward it. That is a great American.

If one will pardon the expression, I let my neighbor have it with both barrels this morning at the bus stop. She’s a Tote Bagger, the worst of the Limo Libs, and the sneering condescension with which she asserted that it was all connected to Palin was more than I could stand on a cold Monday before my first cup of coffee.
I gave her Bush Assassination Porn. I gave her “Screw Them!” I gave her the RNC Welcoming Committee. I gave her the NJ Teachers’ death wish on Chris Christie. I gave her “bring a gun to a knife fight” AND “hit them back twice as hard.”
I asked her who she really thought she was to be opining on political etiquette, with a record like that. I told her I was a proud Tea Partier, and that if she wanted to call me an accessory to murder, she’d need a hell of a lot more evidence than “everybody knows.” She just stood there, shocked, mouth open, blinking stupidly.
I doubt she’ll spend any real time reexamining her thought processes, but at least she won’t spew her NPR Tote Bagger bullshit at me without thinking twice. Plus, it felt good to take the gloves off (pardon the expression).
I’ll even go along with this if they extend it to requiring one before running for office. Think Dennis Kucinich would qualify? Or working for MSNBC. Having Keith Olberman’s psych eval in the public record would provide comedy gold for years.
I did let her board the bus before me, of course. I’d hate to be impolite.

Its funny how the dems are playing the victim card with such fervor. They’re victims because it was one of their own was shot and they’re victims b/c the right wing has turned everyone against progressivism.
I don’t see this as a political party v. political party thing but then I’m not the one who said Obama should never waste a crisis. The only thing this asshole had in common with either party is that liberalism is a mental disease and this guy had a mental disease (just not the same one but its not like they can’t overlap – he’s truther right?)
