Crony capitalism? The hell you say. AJC:
The Obama Administration has quietly granted even more waivers to one provision of the new federal health reform law, doubling the number in just the last three weeks to a new total of 222.
One of the more recognizable business names included on the newly-expanded list of waivers issued by the feds is that of Waffle House, which received a waiver on November 23 for health coverage that covers 3,947 enrollees.
Another familiar name was that of Universal Orlando, which runs a variety of very popular resorts in the Orlando, Florida area. Universal was given a waiver for plans that cover 668 workers.
These waivers deal with limited health benefit plans, sometimes referred to as “mini-med” policies, which companies as large as McDonald’s use for some its employees.
The plan have limits on how much can be paid out in coverage, limits which would be phased out under the new health reform law.
The feds though have granted waivers from that law, amid concern that certain groups would drop their health insurance programs entirely. Those waivers are good for one year, and can be considered for renewal.
That’s right. Each year, certain favored businesses can beg a bureaucracy for a waiver so that they can continue to provide their employees with health insurance.
Those evil corporations.
Good thing the government stands for the little guy. It makes it easier for the little guy to bow and kiss government’s ring…
(h/t Right Bias)
But the left is always on about morality, Jeff.
This thing you noticed just doesn’t jive.
Of course, the MFM progressives will see this as just ducky, ignoring the fact that this just proves the health insurance takeover was only about power, and not about insuring anyone.
Universal?! The only parks in Orlando that have seen increased attendance this year?
Now, I don’t think *ANY* business should be strapped with this POS law, but that seems incongruous. Sea World has been laying people off… have they received a waiver?
What’s ironic is that the left is essentially correct: Constitutional, limited power democracy doesn’t work (when it’s managerial positions are inevitably packed with criminals). The lovely Catch-22 the left has thereby inadvertently devised mitigates against self-governance and for top-down tyranny. After all, the most efficient tyranny is the single sociopath.
Let’s get with the program, shall we?
It’s not every day you can swap collective rank idiocy with downright clairvoyance and not notice much of a difference. Score: Left 1, reality 0.
Which is why we had a Republic.
The usual liberal fascism; where the bureaucrats pick the winners and losers.
That’s dazzling, Crawford. ‘Had’ being the operative term, but not when there are semantics to wrangle.
ot nothing says christmas like a bomb

Whatever, JHo.
Did I raise your unpoint, Crawford?
Whether you call it a Republic or a Constitutional, limited-power democracy, it works just fine so long as you can keep the limited-power part in force. It works pretty well for a while afterwards, too, until it doesn’t…
they only increasered cause of hoppy totter
No, you made no point what-so-ever.
I can see where you would say that, Crawford. I can indeed.
You two lovebirds wanna get a room?
Probably, Squid, if not the woodshed. Words have meaning, after all, especially when you’re intent on determining them in utter context.
I vow to do better, Mr. Crawford.
*described as a convert to Islam*
Pure coincidence. Religion of Peace. Probably one of those Christians pretending to be Muslim to make Muslims look bad. Christians are like that, constantly stirring the pot and planning attacks on America.
I’m a long-term convert to being frelling pissed off with our goverment. Does that get me any special status?
I am not a huge fan of Ayn Rand’s works of fiction because her characters are wooden and the situations contrived.
But this…this reads a lot like something taken out of Atlas Shrugged. Sometimes life imitates art, and that’s considered a good thing. I don’t think life imitating the actions of crudely-drawn antagonists in Ayn Rand novels is something anyone should eagerly anticipate.
…and yes, I’m aware of the possibility that Rand was being deliberately heavy-handed. So much the worse for our current reality.
Rand had about as much subtlety as Gene Roddenberry, yet for some reason one of them has a television & movie franchise that covers generations*. Wonder why that is?
*See what I did there?
*golfclap*
Because only one of them had sexy aliens and William…Shatner, and not necessarily in that order.
Now, just imagine if Rand had described Mr. Thompson as being black on his left side, and white on his right side. She’d have been 1) prescient, and B) RAAAAACIST!
“Are you blind? I’m black on the left side. He’s white on the right side. All his people are white on the right side.”
From memory, so it could be way off, yet still truthy.
Dammit.
“Are you blind? I’m black on the
leftright side. He’s white on the right side. All his people are white on the right side.”
