Say the ladies are insane there

Were I to wake up and find my right arm had grown to be 7300 miles long, the first thing I’d do is reach into Spain and slap that smug, gazpacho-slurping grin right off Zapatero’s pinched, socialist face.

The second thing I’d do is pick some fresh peaches, I should think.

Anyway, this much is true: In the war on terror, Spain has switched sides. Period.

[update: so how’s it working out for you so far?]

what do you expect form the Spanish Mr Bean?

So anyone who thinks that the war in Iraq is a bad idea is on the side of the terrorists in the war on terror?  I know that people like you have always thought and implied that, but it’s nice to see you come right out and say it.

What other positions can one take that make one on the side of terrorists?  Give us the list, pig.

  3. Jeff G says:

Did I say “anyone”?  I thought I said Zapatero, who is taking Spain with him.

But I’d happily add you to the list if you’d like.

  4. IfYouDisagree, YouLoveOBL says:

You said Spain – NOT Zapatero – switched sides in the war on terror.  Other than its decision to withdraw from Iraq, what is your basis for this assertion?  And if there is none, then what you said is logically tantamount to asserting that opposition to the war in Iraq = support for terrorism.  I don’t blame you for wanting to disassociate yourself from this embarrassingly, transparently idiotic sentiment, but I don’t see how you can, in light of what you asid.

As for being put on “lists,” my guess is you’re already on one, Goldstein, and it ain’t Schindler’s.

  5. andy says:

Actually, you’d only need an arm 5010 miles* long to reach in a great circle from Denver to Madrid.

Always helpful, that would be me.

    * If the internet can be believed.

  6. Jeff G says:

Zapatero is Spain’s leader.  So he makes Spain’s decisions. Therefore, Spain—under Zapatero—has switched sides.

And “other than its decision to withdraw from Iraq” is your qualifier?  Well, that’s enough for me:  An erstwhile ally bows to pressure and does the bidding of an ememy who has declared war on us.

    Yeah, switching sides.

Oh, and was that last bit an anti-semitic reveal?  And if so, what on earth are you doing lecturing anyone on logic?

    Anyway, see ya.

Need that extra slack to bend the elbow and create some torque, Andy.

Thought you might like to know I sent an email to to continue the discussion with “IfYouDisagree, YouLoveOBL”.

Turns out that he actually does love OBL and two of the earlier incarnations of Menudo.  Charming fellow really.

  9. Were I to wake up and find my right arm had grown to be 7300 miles long

you could join The Cheat and Strong Bad in a very high five.

Ah, it’s so refreshing when the hordes of human detritus are nice enough to make it plain right up front where they’re coming from so we don’t have to do the delicate dance of racist divination over the course of several posts.

  11. erp says:

Of course Spain just switched sides.  Zapatero campaigned on hate America and he was elected.  Where’s the contradiction?

You think maybe Muslims are still mad at Spain for kicking them out in 1492. These guys go way back.

  12. Steve Skubinna says:

erp, actually they are still pissed about 1492.  OBL himself has referred to the tragedy of losing al-Andalus as one of his grievances against the Jews and Crusaders.  He and the rest of the spittle flecked ululating death junkies subscribe to a sort of Brezhnev Doctrine:  What was once Islamic, shall always be Islamic.  Which really just sets the stage for their ultimate vision, which is to extend the House of War until the entire world is under the House of Islam.

Lucky for us, it such a peaceful religion.  Or so Oprah tells us.

  13. The Sanity Inspector says:

Now, give Zapatero his fig leaf.  IIRC, he’s sending more troops to Afghanistan.

  14. Bloggerhead says:

    Jeff:

So, one man beholds that he’s God’s instrument, and declares war on the Middle Eastern nation with the scantest ties to the transnational entity that attacked us and caused us to declare this war on terror, and he does so with virtually no consultation with his advisers and no single meeting of all of his foreign policy people, and the invasion is undertaken with no realistic plan for its aftermath.  And you say that any country which chooses to reconsider its support for this crusade has sided with the evil-doers.

Spain has been no less a battleground than the U.S., and has a large, even native Muslim population, both inside and essentially at its borders.  Hell, their experience with home-grown terrorism well exceeds ours.  In reality, the Spanish have an almost unrivalled stake in the war against terror, and certainly a right to their own perception of its reality.  Unfortunately for us (or is it fortunately?), few countries long cotton to a messianic figure as the harsh realities of his folly inevitably come to pass.

But I suppose if George W. Bush told you to jump off the Empire State Building, you’d jump off the Empire State Building.

By the way, I fucking hate Western anti-semites, but the twisted shithead initially had a point.

  15. Jeff G says:

I don’t accept the “one man beholding himself as God’s instrument” trope at all, so I’m not going to address it.

As to the rest—whatever is it with you people?  Either Bush and the neocons were planning this unprovoked attack on Iraq since day one of his presidency (and in the case of the neocons, for years), or Bush was suddenly called by God to slay the Babylonians, and he did so with “no consultation” etc etc.  You can’t have it both ways.

Spain was with us, as an ally.  They bowed to the pressure of enemies and withdrew their support in midstream—at the behest, seemingly, of the enemy.  That puts them at odds with us.  So yes, I do say that a country that “reconsiders its support”in the middle of the toughest times is siding with the evil doers.

And no, I wouldn’t jump of the ESB if Bush told me to.  I just expect allies to be allies, not to be allies of convenience.

Oops, the old “Bush has a plan from God “ meme.

nnnn, wrong!  It’s been throughly debunked.  This was told anecdotaly by a reporter who heard a conversation from one of the palestinian PMs (so many, hard to keep track) who listen to a speech translated into arabic.

Sorry, but double hearsay is just that, hearsay.

The left departed on the irrationality cruise ship on the day that the Florida election results came back and haven’t docked yet.  They do seem to be have a whoopin’ wild time that I don’t believe you will ever see another cherent thought ever again.

But hey, when Jaohn Q Public hears this shit, then Bush gets in in a landslide. 2nd term, mmmmm wink

I hope U.S. tourists stay away from Spain now and they’ll feel the pain like France. Also boycott Spanish Imports.

It’s too bad because I love Spain and have suggested that people who want to go to Europe on a vacation go there instead of France.

  19. Jonathan says:

Actually, Italy is topping my list these days.  Too bad, all those years learning French and German, but a sunk cost is a sunk cost.
