Me, I buy it for the articles

“Some women can’t make decisions for themselves, so we’ll make their decisions for them,” some women decide.

Matt Ezzell, a graduate student in sociology, said Playboy sends the wrong message to men. “Playboy is part of the conditioning of men to see women as objects,” he said. “In that sense, I think consuming pornography deforms our idea of sexuality.”

This poor guy has been severely wussified.  Someone needs to get him some decent pron.

Most guys get the pron thing, most women don’t.  Except for the stuff involving the underaged or unwilling participants, people need to let it go.  No one has a right to not be offended by other people’s voluntary choices.

More juvenile reactions to complex issues, I see.  In point of fact, Playboy has always objectified women.  Now somebody points it out publically and you make snide comments. How brave.

  3. Eric E. Coe says:

“Linda F.” – Sorry, but evolution has “objectified” women, in terms of a man’s libido, long before Playboy was a gleam in Hefner’s eye.  Men and women are different that way.  And it’s a good thing too, because if men weren’t the way they are, the human race would have gone extinct long ago.

So Playboy takes advantage of a hard-wired male reflex to make some bucks.  So what?  The only real problem I have with it is that it sets impossible, airbushed standards of female beauty.  That’s the nature of a mass media that collects statistical outliers and presents them exclusively to the public.  Which is not just a problem in the porn arena.

  4. As if women don’t “objectify” men…

  5. andy says:

    Yes, Andrea, but that’s “different.”

Somehow.  I’m almost sure of it.

Wait, I’ve got it – it’s ok for women to objectify men because it is their only method of fighting back against the oppressive nature of our patriarchal society.  Call it sexual terrorism, if you will.

    Or not.
