Highlights from the 9/11 Commission hearings, April 14.
Richard Ben Veniste: “Let me begin by saying, Director Tenet, that I have the utmost respect for the job that you do, and that I applaud your dedicated service to the country. No one is more grateful for the job the CIA does than am I –“
George Tenet: “– I rather doubt that.”
Richard Ben Veniste: “– pardon me? I’m not sure I heard that last remark –“
George Tenet: “Nothing, forget it. Just ask your stupid question. Dork.”

I thought I was the only one nauseated by the “good cop” sucking-up of certain grand inquisitors. it’s only a ploy, of course, used by clever lawyers to put both hostile and cooperative witnesses at ease before going in for the kill on the former, but it reads like bad pulp, and must sound like the worst fawning.
I haven’t paid attention to the commission makeup much but can anyone else tell me if there’s anyone on it who isn’t either a dork, more responsible for letting 9/11 happen than Bush, a partisan hack, or a slimebag? Maybe they should have put Kissinger on it, probably would have fit in. Hell, I’m surprised Moussaoui’s not on it.
