"Oliver Stone apologizes for comments on Holocaust and Jewish media"

CNN:

Director Oliver Stone has issued a statement apologizing for comments he made to the Sunday Times of London regarding the Holocaust and what he called “Jewish domination of the media.”

“In trying to make a broader historical point about the range of atrocities the Germans committed against many people, I made a clumsy association about the Holocaust, for which I am sorry and I regret,” Stone said in a statement released by his publicist. “Jews obviously do not control media or any other industry. The fact that the Holocaust is still a very important, vivid and current matter today is, in fact, a great credit to the very hard work of a broad coalition of people committed to the remembrance of this atrocity — and it was an atrocity.”

In the Sunday Times interview promoting his new documentary “South of the Border,” Stone veered into discussion of the Holocaust, saying, “Hitler was a Frankenstein, but there was also a Dr. Frankenstein. German Industrialists, the Americans and the British. He had a lot of support. … Hitler did far more damage to the Russians than the Jewish people.”

Stone also referred to “Jewish domination of the media,” saying Israel “(expletive) up United States foreign policy for years.”

[…]

Following Stone’s apology, issued Monday night, the New York-based American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and Their Descendants said in a statement: “His apology was necessary and we accept it. But whether he acted out of sincerity or as a desperate response to the moral outcry at his comments is an open question. He must be judged by his future words and deeds.”

This latest event follows statements Stone made in January when he said Hitler is “an easy scapegoat throughout history” in a presentation to TV critics supporting his miniseries “Oliver Stone’s Secret History of America.”

For his part, I imagine what Stone really thinks is that the outcry proves his original point — that one can’t criticize the depiction of the Holocaust without instant condemnation from some well-connected Jewish group or other, which act as tentacles for the sinister Jewish Lobby . No doubt this is precisely what he’s saying privately — lending portent to what was essentially a cowardly rhetorical retreat undertaken to save himself from public scrutiny and chastisement.

For my part, I don’t much mind critiques of the use of the Holocaust; I’m distrustful of any grievance industry, and to some people’s thinking, the Holocaust has been used to anchor Jewish grievance in a manner that exceeds justification. But what I do resent is the idea Stone and others like to let slip that Jews “control the media” — or that, as a group, all Jews necessarily think and believe the same things.

Too, it makes no sense to point at the Jewish surnames in the credits of, say, “Blossom,” as proof that Jews control the world news narrative. Whereas it makes perfect sense to point to someone making that argument and note that he or she is an anti-semitic crank.

As for US policy with respect to Israel, Stone can have his views. But when you find yourself siding with vicious anti-Semitic totalitarian states run by misogynists and homophobes — all so you can “legitimately” air your anti-Zionist grievances — it may be time to take a hard look at what it is, really, you deep down hate.

so you don’t deny that they control the Blossom narrative

I’m waiting for Oliver Stone receiving the kind of universal criticism and ostracizism from Hollywood, the media and the progressive left that followed Mel Gibson’s similar anti-Semetic remarks.

    What’s that?
Showtime is moving forward with a Stone-produced revisionist history of the US?

    Oh, never mind…..

I am waiting for the breathless wall-to-wall coverage of Stone’s remarks, like Gibson’s. Sadly, Stone’s comments were made sober, and were consistent with his prior stated views.

There may be Jewish editors, grossly caricatured, flying around Stones twisted brain, along with Republican War Criminals, blood thirsty, oppressive corporations and thuggish hit squads run by the Colombian government.

May be I should do a Showtime documentary entitled, “The Secret Wacky-Doodle of Oliver Stone.”

    Let’s do lunch!

    – As much as it pains me to mention it, in one single area of his original comment he was partially correct, but even in that he had to be careful not to be too correct, or risk the wrath of his Lefturd masters.

    – When he mentions “….German Industrialists, the Americans and the British…” he got it almost right. If he would have said “American Industrialist” he would have been closer to the truth. Both Rockefeller and Daddy Kennedy were active supporters of the third Reich.

    – Rockefeller skated among rumors of certain gold shipments, but old Joe got nailed and lost his ambassadorial position over embarrassing comments of his open support for Hitler in the press.

BBH: Read “IBM and the Holocaust” and have your mind blown by how one corporation could walk a fine line at supporting their markets in wartime … all the way through until the end of WWII. Watson made Rockefeller and Joe look like virulent anti-Nazis.

And yet, to hear the Leftards tell it, it was the Bush clan that bankrolled the Nazis… and I would bet that this will be Stone’s take on it was well.

  11. Bob Reed says:

I’m actually surprised that he apologized, since the meme was already rolling about his “provacative” statements amounting to no more than your average run-of-the-mill Hollywood publicity stunt; designed to make his documentary all the more desireable by virtue of its possible controversial content. In fact, some may even point to this as reinforcing their original point, since this keeps the “buzz” going.

Me? I just kind of do the good ol’ though experiment; what if this were a conservative justifying klan activity.

And that calculus always arrives at the same result. White.Hot.Outrage…

But Stone? Well, we know his heart is in right place; even of he does think Venezuela is a true workers paradise and Chavez almost religiously infallible.

To go with the math analogy, such analysis, when involving conservatives, always seem to lead to OUTRAGE! on the part of the usual suspects. But, just as with Stone, Wright, Farrakhan, the Sherrods, and so many others, who we so clearly understand have only benevolent intent in their heart-of-hearts, the same calculus ultimately involves taking the square root of a negative number; and as such means the result exists only in the complex plane.

    Because of the nuance

  13. The fact that the Holocaust is still a very important, vivid and current matter today is, in fact, a great credit to the very hard work of a broad coalition of people…

Imagine if Media Matters had reported that a conservative had said this. It’s like the perfect Dowdified quote. Because it’s true, forward or backwards. The problem is, if a conservative had said this, everyone from Allah down to Glenn Beck would be demanding an apology, regardless of context, because it “looks bad” and “we don’t need any more egg on our face”

Our fictional conservative media figure would be all over TV trying to explain his butchered quote on their terms. I can hear it now, “Chris, without a doubt the Nazis were hard workers…” “So what you’re saying is that you admire Nazis?” “No Chris, of course not, but they really were focused on their goals, unlike the Obama administration…” “So what you’re saying is that the Tea Party should be more like the Nazis because the Obama administration is the exact opposite of the Third Reich?” “Well Chris, I do believe that if the people of this country paid more attention to out of control government spen…” “There you have it folks, the leadership of the Tea Party wants their version of the people to be more in line with the goals of Nazi Germany… Unbelievable… at least they finally admit that President Obama is not a Nazi… Disgusting people…I’m in shock…We’ll be back after these messages…” “Hotpants with Chris Matthews is brought to you by…Venezuela Vacations, when you need a break from the daily grind of disagreement and debate, come to Venezuela and relax… the new Subaru Outback, for those days when your driver is ill and the au pair has the Prius, the maid will still be able to get to Whole Foods…no matter what the weather… and the Children’s Television Workshop.”

  14. Oliver Stone says:

I do not hate any hard feelings about Jews,

I just hate hook nosed, money grubbing, short, gay, Hollywood executives and Wall Street types, who are not committed enough to my liberal sensibilities to fund movies that do not make money.

It is just a coincidence they are mostly Jewish. Really. I mean, I do work with Michael Douglas, don’t I? Some of my best friends are Kikes.

I also hate Babs Streisand. Not because she is Jewish or her politics or even her music, but because she is annoying. And I know a lot of Jews who can’t stand Yentel.

And Mel got railroaded. Even if he is a right wing nut job.

  15. dicentra says:

If the Holocaust hadn’t personally affected so many American Jews, including those in the entertainment industry, we wouldn’t have so many movies about the Holocaust, wouldn’t have the museum, wouldn’t have the conventional wisdom that the Nazis were truly awful, the Holocaust was truly horrific, and we don’t much want that to happen again.

It also explains the dearth of anti-Soviet, anti-Castro, anti-Khmer Rouge movies and such: those in Hollywood weren’t impacted by those awful regimes the same as they were by the Holocaust, so they don’t feel the need to tell the story.

Well, that and they’re all pinko scumbags (all of Hollywood) who admire tyrants. In other words, we’d have no movies at all about tyranny if it weren’t for the fact that Hollywood Jews had family who were affected directly by the Holocaust.

  16. dicentra says:

Also, the Hollywood pinkos have played down that one of the reasons Jews were targeted for destruction is that the National Socialists were enemies of the free market, and European Jews were the living symbols of capitalism, they having been forced into banking and commerce by Christian bans on their owning property.

It wasn’t just their “mudblood” status: it was their livelihoods.

  17. Texan99 says:

I can’t say whether he’s sincere. I can say that this strikes me as a real apology, not the horrible “Well, I’m SORRY if anyone was dumb enough to be offended” sort of thing that’s become way too common lately.

I can remember, back when I was a kid (about 11, or so), my mother allowing me to stay up late one night to watch a WWII documentary, brcause I beggggggggggggggged her so much.

The documentary turned out to be a recounting of experiences by people like British soldiers – riflemen, tankers, etc. – describing what war felt like when you had an actual weapon, and contrasting it with the experience of Jews from all over Europe, who had sort of given up their weapons, sort of voluntarily.

I have to tell you that although I left the room a couple of times, unable to take the full horror without throwing up, my mother let me back in, to take it all in.

What am I getting to, here? Well, anyone, *anyone*, who minimizes the holocaust, for a second, is scum of the lowest order.

    The. Lowest. Order.

That complete fucking scumbag. That the dear Lord should leave him oxygen to breath. It’s a challenge to faith.

    Not so much

Basically, Stone’s a paranoid dickhead, and paranoid dickheads, for whatever reason, have some sort of “Jew” thing going on.

The opposite of the thing I have for Israeli soldier-girls. Hoo-ha!
