That second song, from a band called SR-71, was written by front man Mitch Allan (nee Mitch Scherr), who I grew up with. He used to roadie for a friend’s band, Fiction Bridge (formerly Clever Lines), who had a minor following in mid-80s, opening for bands like The Church. I ran lights for them for a while.
Until recently I had no idea that SR-71 existed. And that’s because when I knew them they were called “Honor Among Thieves”, who began as a kind of Metallica cover band.
Mitch wrote the song “1985,” which Bowling for Soup turned into a big hit. Ironic only in that 1985 was probably the last time we worked together with Fiction Bridge. And by “worked together,” I mean hauled equipment into a van or the keyboardist’s mom’s station wagon, then dumped it on stage at Maxwell’s. After that, it was Mickey’s big mouths and local groupies.
with all due respect, sdferr, I wouldn’t consider that an insult. Many studio musicians are actually as fine, if not finer, than the musician/singer/band they back up.
I dunno about that, cranky. Like I said, Mitch was always very into Metallica, Guns’ n’ Roses, Limp Biscuit, etc.– even as he worked with Fiction Bridge, which was paisley-psychedelic new-wave (to fill out sets, they’d do covers of Echo and the Bunnymen, The Church, The Byrds, Peter Frampton…).
These days Mitch seems to be working in a number of different styles.
hey, is it mitigating circumstances that I even call my own kids by the wrong names? (I think it’s a family curse; my grandparents always called me by my sister’s name and there’s only two of us!)
And serr8d, I suspect he would make more a lot on tips alone leading scuba tourists in Cozmel or Baja. And yeah, I would prefer pulling suburban weeds for $10 an hour than that job.
i went out dressed as morrissey on halloween

Saw a biography on TV about the FunkBrothers. I highly recommend it.
The original ‘sockpuppet’ band. The three guys who recorded the hit release were studio-grade only; they hired 5 guys to tour live in their stead.

Small freakin’ world.
SR-71 wants to be the goo-goo dolls somewhere between who they used to be and who they are now.
studio-grade only

Anagrams usually asplode my head, dicentra.
How’s about a nice game of chess ?
How about we play “Global Thermonuclear War?” North Korea wants in on that as well.
OT, but here’s a job you can get for $500 per month in Mexico City. No wonder they are flooding the borders.
I have made the serr8d and sdferr typing mistake. But the orange helps.

Chess asplodes my head. Any game of strategery asplodes my head. Though I did win my first and only game of Risk on account of dumb luck.
For your summer enjoyment, BBQ cuppie cakes!
