Jeez. I feel so, well…scolded, frankly. Such a silly little well wisher I am.
Quick question, though: are most Iranians really Arabs, Brendan…? Or is that just, y’know — the kind of license granted professional journalists like you?
P.S. You’re a jackass, but that’ll just be our little secret. But do please grow up, won’t you…?

He knows that Iranians aren’t Arabs, Jeff. He’s just sure that you don’t know that.
(Farsi is written in kanji, right?)
Oh. I get it. More snark. You’d think I’d be more attuned to it by now. Well, just in case—I brought pictures!

Jebus Chrysler on a pogo stick:

They offer those words to you now – even though you won’t understand them because you speak a different language. Even though you won’t be able to access them because most of you have never heard of the internet,. Even though you’ve had enough ‘words of wisdom’ from the West to last you a lifetime.

I see: no one in Iran speaks English. There are no Iranian blogs. That village in Iran that was recently hooked up to the Internet? (Pejman has the link.) Doesn’t exist.
Oh—and we are unaware that the majority of the population in Iran are Persian, whose culture and language are quite different from that of the Arabs.
I wonder what Hossein Derakhshan thinks of Mr. O’Neill’s patronizing (spelled with a “z”!) little screed.
What a sad, bitter little man Brendan O’Neill is.
Brendan O’Neill—champion of the “brown” people.
Oy, gehvelt. I have reached a level of exasperation that only pidgin Yiddish can give voice to. Someone toss some billy goats under this fool’s bridge already.
Iranians have a blogosphere, with about 1200 blogs in it right now – and roughly 400,000 Iranians have access to the internet, with estimates it will reach 15 million within four years.

O’Neill just likes to hear himself… type… so that Bloggers can then correct him and validate his existence, it would appear.
You know… if the blogoshpere is as piddling and inconsequential as boneill thinks it is, why does he waste as much time and effort as he does commenting on it?
Ignore him. Everything about his blog fairly screams, notice me.
Jim’s got this guy pegged. I’m convinced he’s just begging for linkage. Read any post on his site – it screams, “Post a link to your page saying how wrong I am!” I bet he’s just watching his site statistics and giggling.
Wanker.
Well, at least he’s taking his own advice about keeping those posts short….had this one down to 12 paragraphs
“and most of them aren’t even journalists.”
Or crack whores. Bunch a fake-ass wannabes.
“That the current Iranian regime has failed to create a free and prosperous society. And they failed not because the Bush administration isolated Iran by rejecting moderate Iranians’ attempts to become a Western ally and irrationally labelling them part of the axis of evil, but because Iranian leaders are backward and barbarous and uncivilised.”
They certainly failed to create a free society for this reason. I’ve never heard anyone claim that Iran has a horrible human rights record because of Bush. Hmm, extremist uprising: Late seventies. Bush calls them an “axis of evil”: 2002. Yep, Bush caused it.
Hey, Gregory Hlatky just mentioned that Miss Crabapple’s tract put him in mind of the Bulwer-Lytton award. Maybe we could have the blogospheric equivalent, affectionately named the Boneill Prize, with first honors going to the Bone himself, for excellence in thuddingly bad satire.
Btw, Jeff, the Stegosaurus was really cool.
Just read that Bulwer-Lytton excerpt. I’m embarrassed on behalf of fiction writers everywhere.
I do, however, praise the judging.
Hey, can a guy who’s studied oy gevehlt beat a guy who’s studied koryu bujutsu?
