Juliette Ochieng, aka Baldilocks, has published a new novel, Tale of the Tigers, “an interracial love story set at a southwestern university in the 1990s.”
Do yourself a favor: Buy it. Otherwise, we fiction writers simply cannot survive.
And while you’re at it, check out The Kicker of St. John’s Wood from Gary Wolf, a novel set in the near future where the sensibilities of the multiculturalists and “progressives” hold cultural sway.
And no, it’s not an absurdist comedy.
Thanks for the tips. How’s things going at Qor Jeff?
Well, I’m not much into the lurv stories, be they interracial or not, so I think I’ll pass. If there were laser beans, spaceships or zombies, or zombies with laser beams on spaceships that were falling in love, that’s different.
Qor is interesting, btw.
Done, thanks for the heads up.
Football? I’m so in.
I will buy it when I get to work I promise. If I ever get to work. I’m a bad person.
No, you are not.
thank you … but I’m very late and it was willful. I hope the economy gets better some day so I can discover something more interesting to do with my days.
Well, if you prefer historical fiction about the American West, there is my first book, “To Truckee’s Trail” (About the first wagon-train party to take their wagons over the Sierra Nevada) and the “Adelsverein Trilogy” – all about the German settlements in frontier Texas. (On Amazon, natch. Comment system eats comments with links!) A while ago, Wretchard at the Belmont Club observed that a certain number of dedicated bloggers were moving on to writing extended fiction or non-fiction books. Something about the discipline of sitting down and writing, and the value of getting feedback from readers. Glad to see that it worked for Baldilocks as well as for me and others!
Is it any good Jeff? I assume you have read it.
It is not some lame version of Snow Falling on Cedars is it? Because that was better titled Book for Making Joe Fall To Sleep.
I hope you find work happyfeet. You are not a bad person. You have bad leaders who are fucking up the economy so there are not enough jobs.
Zombies with laser beams!
I’m not into “chick-lit” stuff either, but I’m going to buy it anyway because I like Juliette. Besides, I might be pleasantly surprised. It may be a while before I read it, though, as I have a whole stack of books I’ve been meaning to read and haven’t yet.
I tried to buy it just now, but discovered I only have $3.15 in my PayPal account. Oops. I fix…
By the way, Jeff, how’s your book coming along?
Thanks Jeff!
Joe,
Jeff hasn’t read it, but there’s a sample chapter on the site. There will be another announcement next week when it’s available at the big sellers.
ok it’s on the way
good luck to you!
Chick Lit or not, I’m buying it (pulling out the credit card and accessing amazon.com now). If it’s half as good as baldilock’s blog, I’m in.
If there were laser beans,
I ate a big plate of laser beans once. (baked beans with chipotle sauce)
Needless to say what is needless to say.
One question: Can we get autographed copies from the book’s website?
;^)
Now if it was an interracial zombie couple, I must admit, my interest would be peaked.
be that as it may, best of luck to Juliette with her book.
my interest would be
peakedpiqued.FTFY
Feets, you in the unemployment line? Big “hey, I bin there” from me. Now you know why I stock up on soup.
‘feets: thank you … but I’m very late and it was willful.
“Sometimes you’ve just gotta say, What the heck?”
Now if it was an interracial zombie couple
Eww. Necrophilia is teh sukc.
On reflection, Mrs. DarthRove is fond of the lurv stories, so I am more than willing to buy it for her. There’s a Christian religious holiday coming up where giving gifts is customary, so I’m going to piss off a Crusading Atheist and give the wife baldilocks’ book.
thanks TSI … the boss person is in NY anyway this week…
what does “Fiction Bridge” mean exactly I don’t get that. No one tells me anything and I can be fearsome unclever besides.
Hey, HF!
Join the club! I am reduced to sleeping in my car, and begging my girlfriend not to leave me.
I love this Obama stuff. I have never seen anything this bad. Three years ago, I grossed over $500,000, and this year I’m painting fucking bathrooms!
Good luck, and know that I am in a flinking library to get on line.
I won’t give up, but I’ve got a real bad attitude about the government. Pigs – every one of them.
TLD
Oh. And by the way…
I’m on I-Tunes. Please download me. Every little bit helps…
20 Years Late Tom Schulz
And I’m proud of this CD. And the best part is that I get half of what you pay.
Why do I feel like a capitalist for posting this? I guess that I am a super pig in OSA(Obama States of America)
Oink! Oink!
Hey Mr. Dog it’ll get better so hang in there – our little president got his cocky pompous grin pimp-slapped off his stupid smirky economically ruinous Chicago street trash face yesterday and that, my friend, is Hope.
here is a link for your music Mr. Dog
Ahhhh, Jeff…glad to “hear” your voice…please…more?
Baldilocks — is this going to be available at Amazon? Some of us don’t do PayPal…
If this is self-published and you need to get it into Amazon, have a look at CreateSpace. Unlike some other services, there are NO setup charges, and your book will go straight into the Amazon catalog (CreateSpace is owned by Amazon).
Spiny Norman–if you hurry.
SBP–it will be available there next week or thereabouts. Of course it will be retail then.
Because it’s a bridge of fiction, you see.
No. No I don’t see. No one tells me anything.
So TLD, you get one review from some moron who gives you 1 star and says “This is not Tom Sholz of Boston, beware”.
I have a sneaking suspicion that it was Obama that wrote that review while he was trying to look uninterested in the elections. It has Barry’s fingerprints all over it:
1. He thinks people aren’t smart enough to figure it out themselves
2. He unwittingly makes himself look like a complete idiot (by forcing us to imagine ‘hey, this isn’t Boston!)
3. His review is not based on what your music is, but what it is not
4. He’s an idiot (may be redundant, but so is Obama’s idiocy)
I guess Snowcone could have done that review too.
I’ll be buying too… and in the spirit of my latest “How To Take Advantage Of This Rotten Obama Economy” theory, I plan to go a step further.
I’ve spent some time looking for the leaks that the money is flowing through, in order to position myself to scoop some of it up for myself. Duh. It’s going into the usual places: public schools, colleges, and universities. So I figure I’ll buy Juliette’s book (read it, of course) and recommend it to my son’s high school literature teacher. The subject matter, an interracial love story, will be irresistible to the multi-culti education crowd, but, as I know Ms. Baldilocks, it’s bound to be a Trojan Horse of ideas and alternate viewpoints.
I’ve just been struck by the brilliance of this. We of the conservative mindset have to follow Baldilock’s lead. Ayn Rand initially spread her philosophy through works of fiction. Fiction influences people on a deeper level, by creating characters that readers can care about and identify with, and showing how they are dehumanized by leftism. It was _We The Living_ that gave me the will to fight that went beyond an intellectual understanding. Knowing that collectivism is evil because it, of necessity, requires theft, coercion, and force, has power, but seeing Kira Argounova struggle against it, and give her life to escape it – that made it personal for me, and, therefore, her struggle became my own.
I know, I know… I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve learned to expect great things from Baldilocks. Now I know more things that I can do, personally, to advance my personal struggle.
Ali’s book is #4 on Oprah’s fall booklist….which she is apparently going to pimp on CNN once a week.
FOX could do that…..oh, wait…teabaggers cant read.
Notably absent….going rogue.
lawls
Jeff, plzplzplz write yours.

Yep – that’s my plan, too – only to get more people interested in the past by doing rip-roaring historical novels. It’s a painless way to teach people generally about where we came from and who we really are – not the PC pap dispensed in school.
No sgt. mom….that is who we were.
tick…tick….tick….goes the demographic timer.

tick…tick….tick….goes the demographic timer.
You only believe that because you’ve been brainwashed into having a creepy affection for identity politics. As much as the left fights against it, people assimilate.
If you want to be a literary critic its helps to be literate, nishfong.
Really, Nish – you should pay better attention, or at least read one of my books before you open your mouth. In a large part, I wrote about people who came from other places (Ireland, Germany and Mexico, mainly) who became American. It ain’t the demographics, dear – it’s the attitude and the willingness to become a part of the American experiment. All those people who came to America in the 19th century – their descendants are as much American as those who were here at the time of the American Revolution – even though they seemed pretty much like un-assimilatible foreigners upon first arrival.
Tick, tick, tick goes the assimilation clock…
Oprah? Heh.
