One of the lyrics from “America the Beautiful”.
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
See what she did, there?
I defer to the late, great, Ray Charles
We’ll all do well to refrain from any further animadversions on Koala tea, surely.
I don’t get it. I could go a couple ways with that I think. Might need to look at the whole song. America is my favorite though. Even as it’s defiled by Barack Obama and his skeezey woman I think I’ll still always have a special place in my heart for our little country.
There’s a lot of good men and women who’ve served this country over the course of hundreds of years, many of whom gave their lives to keep her strong. Memorial Day is for them, for the ones who’ve passed. As long as we can, we owe them all a debt of gratitude.
concur serr8d ..they gave up their tomorrows..for our todays..bless them always..
Let’s hope our little country can be saved from making their sacrifices in vain.
Deepest gratitude to those who gave all.
A special Memorial Day remembrance of Sergeant Robert Brown who delayed going in from the field for R and R to go on an operation on the Vam Co Dong river in the fall of 1968. Sgt. Brown was killed trying to pull casualties back from a NVA bunker complex. “No greater love has a man than this ,that he lay down his life for a friend.”
The next verse is just as good:
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
I second TheMonster’s nomination of Ray Charles….
bill,
We still have people like that serving. We can’t forget them, those they left behind and that they have loved mercy more than life. SGT Brown pulling wounded back with no thought of his own safety was “loving mercy more than life.”
FTFY.
I would like to add a tribute to Professor Liviu Librescu.
We’re taught to love the worst of us, and mercy more than life but trust me: Mercy’s just a warning shot across the bow.
It sure is the way I use it.
