Timing is everything

Gee, I sure HOPE the launch of a long-range NORK missile doesn’t CHANGE plans to cut $1-$2 billion in missile defense funds tomorrow…

— Although I suppose in a pinch, ACORN volunteers could be dispatched to hector a warhead out of the sky, and if that doesn’t work, President Obama can simply sign something outlawing war and violence — hell, maybe even arrogance — altogether.

He has that kind of power, you know.

Because of the mandate.

I think you mean exotic missile defense funds, no? I think that means these are the missile defense funds what have their own 900 number.

  2. Slartibartfast says:

Don’t you know that missile defense doesn’t work?

That’s going to be the response. Unfortunately, through some oversight or failure of Democrats to oppose missile defense, we’ve actually shown that yes, it does work. The problem is that it works against targets that actually exist, and not the 95%-unobtainium targets that UCS keeps coming up with.

  3. Jeff G. says:

Socialism doesn’t work, either, so as long as we’re going to be throwing money at something…

  4. Slartibartfast says:

Sorry, this missile defense thing is a hot-button with me. I’m nearly given up disabusing people of their ill-informed opinions in that area. I spent roughly a dozen years working the problem, and I’ve seen countless dollars flushed down the toilet because God forbid, we may actually build something that works.

And if we did, no way could we actually test it.

Washington and Madison fought two wars against the largest and most successful empire the world has ever seen.

Lincoln handled the bloodiest war in our nation’s history — made worse since it was against ourselves.

Roosevelt and Truman won a global war.

    Kennedy made Kruschev blink.

Reagan brought down the Soviet Union.

Bush II prosecuted a successful two-front war on Islamofascism.

Obama can’t even deal with a petty bargain-basement punk like Kim Jong Il.

    Nice.

    from your link…

So Obama echoed President John F. Kennedy’s famous line about his wife during their iconic European trip in 1961, when Jackie Kennedy stole the show by wowing Europe and the world. It was Mrs. Kennedy’s first presidential trip to France, and her reception led her husband to introduce himself as “the man who accompanied Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris.”

In Prague, Obama said: “Today, I am proud to stand here with you in the middle of this great city, in the center of Europe. And to paraphrase one of my predecessors I am also proud to be the man who brought Michelle Obama to Prague.”

    that’s very telling I think

UPDATE: Just to get a sense for how propagandistic, sycophantic and fact-free are the most extreme Obama worshippers in our “journalist” class, consider this recent article from The New Republic’s Noam Scheiber in which he urged the White House to “free its economic oracle” — Summers — and defended and praised Summers on the ground that “his exposure to Wall Street over the years has been limited.” As Jonathan Schwarz asks, citing the massive compensation on which Summers engorged himself by feeding at the Wall Street trough last year: “I wonder what would have constituted ‘significant’ exposure to Wall Street? Maybe if he’d worked for D.E. Shaw full time? (Amazingly, Summers was paid $5.2 million for a part-time position.)”
    – Glen Greewald

  25. HA! When Glens is complaining about it, you know it’s gotta be bad.

  26. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Yeah, Carin. Even Mother Jones magazine is starting to criticize Barky.

He never had the right, the middle is realizing what a con man he is, and the left will never be satisfied with what he’s able to do.

    Clusterfuck.

  27. geoffb says:

If we were serious about the NK missle then we could have had an Aegis cruiser on location to shoot it down, as a public safety service.

Oh, yeah, that would show missile defense working. And right before we cut it too. Can’t have that kind of thing. Power for the Party is what matters, nothing else better get in the way of that one true star in the Dem’s firmament.

  28. SarahW says:

Geoofb – That would send a bad signal. O wants a nuclear FREE world. He has to set a shining example of frowning at nukes.

  29. SarahW says:

Oo, I gave you some extra O’s Geoffb.

  32. happyfeet says:

Mom used to always say that Barbara Mandrell had been married to the same man since the 60s. She was very impressed with that. I think she heard it on a talk show.

  33. Slartibartfast says:

If we were serious about the NK missle then we could have had an Aegis cruiser on location to shoot it down, as a public safety service.

McKittrick had some interesting things to say about that. One of them is that we could stand to learn a great deal about the Taepodong by letting it fly. I’d guess that we had some assetts nearby to gather track data.

  34. ThomasD says:

Yeah, Carin. Even Mother Jones magazine is starting to criticize Barky.

Sort of, in a limited roundabout highly generalized sort of way. Actually, not even that. More that certain issues that may involve Obama are getting some critical exposure.

But they’re just trying to keep the pretence of being an honest broker so that when midterms and 2012 roll around they can keep the votes flowing to the O!

  35. happyfeet says:

also it doesn’t at all hurt relations with Japan to let it fly I don’t think. To me that’s probably the paramount thing. South Korea is sort of hard to factor in cause they seem so confused when these things happen.

  36. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

One of them is that we could stand to learn a great deal about the Taepodong by letting it fly.

Well, let us remember that it was teh UN that resolved that Mr. Kim not shoot another rocket.

Not that it matters; the world press is ignoring who threatened sanctions originally and ignoring the non response by everybody.

Old news by Tuesday. Obama will use North Korean intransigence and Palestinian terror to marginalize Clinton to the point she resigns in disgrace before midterm elections. Media will not allow The One to bear any responsibility for… well, shit, for anything failure at all.

There will always be a fall guy. The script is already written.

  42. geoffb says:

On my TV, I think it was Fox, there was this scroll saying that the G-20 nations found Obama to be a good compromiser. My thoughts were, He’s a socialist, they are socialists, of course he would compromise. Any compromise leads in the direction he wants to go anyways. That’s using the “easy” button.

And what did we learn? That the PRiK’s limpdong failed to put its payload into orbit. I’m no expert on any of this, but it’s my understanding that the rocket part is easy compared to the nuclear warhead part.

So long as the PRiKs are willing to prove themselves impotent I think we should let them. Although I don’t mean to suggest that we shouldn’t ridicule them brutally..

No, not quite. It’s just that the nuclear warhead part is a nearly orthogonal category of hard than the rocket part. The rocket part is all chamber pressures and specific and total impulse and bending modes and autopilot and guidance, while the warhead is all physics package and fuze.

It’s harder, possibly, to get the fuze to work just right than it is to get the warhead to initiate when it’s told to.

  54. gus says:

So far OpieBama is off to a real good start in Foreign Policy. He gave the Queen and I-pod. A product created, designed, refined and sold by GREEEEEDY GREEEEDY CAPITALIST Billionaires. Then he told the French that we are “arrogant”. The French would be part of the 3rd Reich if not for our sacrifices and money. We rebuilt Europe with the Marshall plan and our cash. Next he tells our enemies that we should De-Nuclearize ourselves and lead because we are the only country to have used a Nuke.
Yes, we ended the war and averted hundreds of thousands of more American deaths, not to mention the Japanese. We then rebuilt Japan and helped them to become a world economic power.
What did Europe do for us? Japan? Russia?
Then to make the weekend Grand Slam, OpieBama and his fugly wife tell the U.N. to yell at North Korea.
Meanwhile the Media is comparing Michelle Obama to Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. I think not.

  55. gus says:

Joe? Peace completely lost??? Are you high?

  56. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Don’t forget to add sucking the dick of a petty thug who calls himself a “king” to his list of accomplishments, gus.

That’s the one that sticks in my craw the worst.

  57. gus says:

Spies, I’ve never commented directly to you, but I must say that I thoroughly enjoy your work. Obama is a narcissist. His entire life he’s been told how “special” he is. He’s never had to prove it. He’s never been put to any sort of test. He’s never believed in any higher purpose other than himself. He doesn’t revere America like you and I do. He doesn’t have any relationship, stake nor concept of WHERE ALL THE FREEBIES he has recieved come from. If you haven’t read Obama’s own words, writings and political stances in Illinois. You should. I’m pretty astute, and I’d recognize an Obama as easily as I’d recognize a Branch Davidian. He has no concept of other peoples character and ethic.
I could type for an hour about the instances my random access memory has processed about this piece of shit and his equally shitty wife, but suffice to say, I read him and see right through him. He is vacant. In Europe, he is pandering and posturing. He is giving YOURS and MY American money, security and honor away in an effort to be PRAISED.
It’s sickening. Obama and Rodham are weak and needy. They will spend OUR blood earned honor and Americanism just to be liked.
Every generation of my family going back to the 16th century has served, fought for and in some cases died for their country. Britain and the U.S.A.. How could Obama possibly relate to that??? My nephew was wounded in Iraq. Obama doesn’t respect that. My father is buried at Arlington. Obama hasn’t cried there. Obama is the natural conclusion to a welfare state. Those who have not achieved have been taught by DEMOCRAT’S to feel and believe they are victims. Obama appeals to that lowest common denominer. His wife was “never proud of America” before. She said so in my hometown of Milwaukee. I’ve never NOT BEEN PROUD.

    Oops make that Powerline

  60. geoffb says:

    From that Power line piece,

“Obama’s American bashing is the product of his ego. Scott suggested as much yesterday when he described Obama as “bestriding the Western world in the guise of a philosopher king.” By distancing himself from America’s foreign policy, he presents himself as something greater than a mere American president attempting to project American power and American ideas”

Since Obama only takes a position in order to advance to the next one, never to actually do the job, he is now embarking on his quest for the next higher, at least to him, job.

As for the Presidency, his minions will fill in the blanks left on his foreign policy, Pelosi, Geithner, and Reid will run the domestic end.

  61. Sdferr says:

I think America’s enemies in the world will be the ones filling in the blanks in Obama’s empty strategic offerings, geoffb, no matter what the minions may do. The Norks were filling one in today, in fact. The Iranians are hard at work on theirs. Same with the Russians, Syria, Talibs, al Qaedas and so on.

  62. geoffb says:

Unfortunately you are correct Sdferr. Either way it sucks to be us. There will be a day, when the rent on having him for President, will come due.

  63. gus says:

Danger! Thanks, my nephew Richard Fox Company 24th Marines Second Batallion, was wounded in his FIRST tour in Iraq, as a Lance Cpl, in December 2004.
He was 21 years old. He served a second tour and is back home safe and sound and a Purple Heart Marine Veteran.
He is getting married in 3 weeks. At 25 y/o, I love him and respect him more than I could express.
My grandfather was wounded Oct 23 1942 at El Alemein. Scots Black Watch.
Ironically his Father in law, whom he never met, was Killed on that EXACT SAME DATE. Oct 23 1918 in Damascus. Also Scots Black Watch. He is interred in Damacus. My father is buried at Arlington. I visit his grave as oft as I can. USAF. My Father served during peace time, but in days gone by, you could recieve full military honors at Arlington and we lived very close to Arlington then.

My understanding is Obama’s missle shield will be created by his mind, channeling the good will of all nations. He will be supported by Michelle Obama’s amazing arms.

Also, Obama will be implementing wishing day, the first of which will be held on June 1. The Great One has asked us all to wish nuclear weapons were gone completely. I support this move wholeheartedly.

  66. Slartibartfast says:

I get this funny feeling that we’re in for a national balloon fence, and that Congress is going to blow it.
