because they were exhausted. Burning the candle at both ends, while Rome burns, our new Preznit Narcissus really puts the party first.
Mark Steyn on related. (h/t Hot Air headlines)
Smoke ’em while you’ve got ’em, I guess. So here’s a link to Stacy McCain’s Rule 5 Sunday, which itself contains a link to our very own Serr8d.
Caleb at RedState: Doubling Down on Rush
US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is practically alone on the job, working night and day to cope with the worst economic downturn in decades.
Of the 15 key Treasury Department positions that require Senate confirmation, only one has been filled. Stuart Levey, a leftover from the previous administration, who as under secretary of the treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence, is not central to the crisis management however.
Unemployment figures which revealed Friday that 651,000 jobs were lost in February, showed the recession is running ever deeper, but Geithner, who started work in late January, has no deputy secretary, no under secretaries for international affairs and no deputy under secretaries.
Annette Nazareth, who had been expected to be chosen as deputy secretary — Geithner’s top aide — has withdrawn her name, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition, citing people familiar with the matter.
The former Security Exchange Commission head “withdrew in large part because of the long vetting process” President Barack Obama has put in place to choose members of his government, the daily said.
Geithner’s choice for undersecretary for international affairs, Caroline Atkinson, also took her name out of the running, only weeks ahead of the April 2, Group of 20 developed and developing nations summit in London.
To help Geithner on international financial matters, Treasury has provisionally hired Ted Truman, an economist at the Peterson Institute of International Economics in Washington, according to a Treasury official.
Best transition EVAH! (h/t Dr. Melissa)
Still more best transition EVAH! from Brits whom Obama’s pissed off by being a completely self-absorbed narcissist jackass.
And in case you missed Paul Ryan questioning Orszag on those trillions that Obama’s saving, here’s another opportunity.
TRANSPARENCY! Accidental, but still . . .
Politics is hard. :(
We can haz break?
Hasn’t that fucker gone on vacation like three times already?
President Fragile Flower admits he isn’t up to the job. Super, just super.
I wonder if the 25th Amendment is going to get tested in the next few years?
Obama’s finding out it sucks when the little people don’t listen to their betters.
Hey! Lightworker! If the job’s too tough for ya get the hell out and let somebody who’s qualified do it. Fuckin Whitehouse. Fulla crack whores.
Wait a minute– he didn’t write the stimulus, Pelosi did. Geithner was supposed to write other shit, but didn’t. What EXACTLY is Obama being overwhelmed with, snubbing Gordon Brown?
I guess it’s tough being a playboy President…
“The White House admission that its Rush Limbaugh campaign may be “counter-productive” is a promising sign that the Obama team may be dialing back its investment in an unwise strategy.”
IOW, Rush is kicking Obambi’s skinny little ass.
It is exhausting demonizing a radio talk show host while simultaneously driving the economy into the dirt.
The “Community Organizer” has organized his White House community into a well oiled Chicago style machine. Now we get to see how that works with out a Daley in charge. This is Chicago under Harold Washington.
Give the man a break. At least he’s been on time for most events. Seeing his behavior in the past, that is real progress.
Geithner was supposed to write other shit, but didn’t.
He had what? A couple of months since the election to get his shit lined up and be ready to hit the ground running. Figure a couple of months before that at least when they knew they were winning. So minimum of four months to get squared away. And this is the best he can do? The only things missing are the goofy sound effects and a giant anvil that falls on peoples heads. We elected, sorry, they elected a cartoon.
Of the inexperience, juvenile behavior and attitudes, and the lack of class of our president, the one that concerns me the most is the lack of class. The other two negative traits can be overcome, but not without a sizeable helping of graciousness and humility.
And lest I be misinterpreted re: my definition of “class”- I couldn’t give a rip about someone’s social standing or who their parents were. As long as their parents taught them good manners.
Look at the silver lining here: There are fewer Obamaoists for now, pulling wires to wreck the economy and turn us into Peronist Argentina.
Of course all those Treasury posts are empty. There is nobody smart enough to fill them who is dumb enough to hitch his star to a Treas Sec who is politically powerful but too stupid to operate Turbo Tax. Something will go wrong, heads will roll and it won’t be the dumb guy with all the connections.
These jobs don’t pay well compared to the private sector and will dead end with the administration’s term. The way things are going they won’t exactly add meat to the resume either.
My St. Patrick’s Day wish is that for some spunky paparazzi to get a shot of Obama in a jogging suit and Do-rag.
It’s not easy being Tim Geithner. Nobody wants to sign up to crew the leaky ship.
Look at the silver lining here: There are fewer Obamaoists for now, pulling wires to wreck the economy and turn us into Peronist Argentina.
Sadly Jeffersonian, I took it the other way. If he doesn’t put people in those posts, that’s fewer people he has to keep “in the loop” so it will be easier for him to fulfill his dream of becoming a socialist dictator. But I’m apparently awfully cynical today.
