Certainly is “change”, I have little hope however.

    When is Lysenko due in?

  2. dicentra says:

Last night, coincidentally, I read the section about the AASC and AMS in Christopher Horner’s Red Hot Lies.

Apparently, the AASC is fairly sober about the whole thing, but the American Meteorological Society (AMS), whose certification you need to be a TV weatherduud, went ahead and adopted a pro-AGW hysteria position without consulting its members.

Who, when they found out what they “believed” about AGW, were livid, but AMS won’t budge. Too much of that sweeeeet grant money flowing in, dontchaknow.

  3. Log Cabin says:

Is this anything like that “chilling effect” on speech that leftards were pissing themselves over in the run up to and execution of the Iraq war?

Oh, right. That was imaginary. This is unfortunately real.

  4. happyfeet says:

oh. This is that blacklisting sort of thing what meya’s fond of.

  5. Roland THTG says:

    Thoughtcrimes will not be tolerated.

  6. BJTexs says:

This is the public face of what’s happening throughout academia. There are professional climate people who are afraid to even mention in passing concerns about AGW for fear of some kind of retribution.

The above highlights the particular problem of government sponsored grants for science and government appointed scientific positions. The tendency is to be less concerned with actual “science” and more concerned with “our current position on the science, regardless of scientific evidence.”

Those who are politically pushing AGW as the fuel to fire massive changes in energy policy would prefer that the scientific community act less like scientists and more like political hacks.

  7. B Moe says:

So science is politics now, and politics is religion. Is that about right?

  8. MarkD says:

B Moe, may I quote you? Best summary yet.

  9. alppuccino says:

    If you can’t do, teach.

It will all sort itself out in the end.

(of course, I know there are some teachers here, but you all sound like doers to me. Why else would you be here?)

  10. Mal says:

    Sorry folks.
Way, way, WAY off topic here, but I just noticed this.
But for Al Sharpton, I’d’ have totally misunderstood this editorial cartoon from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Thanks for showing me how to see this stuff, slick!

  11. Mal says:

I just noticed that the link didn’t go through, somehow; my apologies!
Please check Gary Brookins’ editorial cartoon for 02/17/09.
It’s pretty offensive when you come to really understand it…

  12. happyfeet says:

That is a very big black monkey, Mal. A scary big black monkey what is ravaging our economy. That’s disturbing.

  13. Bob Reed says:

“Science restored to it’s rightful place!”…

As long as, you know, it’s the correct, consensus approved, version of science…

I Won!, The Debate is Over!

    O!

  14. Bob Reed says:

And Catholic h8ters luuuuuuuuvs to talk about the Church’s “repression” of science…

    GOD-BOTHERERS REPRESS SCIENCE!

So what are we going to call the AGW fetishists..?

    FACT-BOTHERERS REPRESS SCIENCE!

I’m not sure what this modern day inquisition will come to be known as, but I am sure that Al Gore is starring as Torqemada…

  15. Pablo says:

It’s pretty offensive when you come to really understand it…

It’s suggesting that The Messiah should commit suicide with money and a cannon! I’m outrageously outraged! RACISTS!!

  16. Carin says:

I think the gorilla represents Obama’s blackness, and that we (meaning whites) simply want to blame the economy on a president.

Honestly, we have so far to go before we can put all this racial hatred behind us.

  17. JHoward says:

    Is this the NASCAR-doesn’t-get-Russia thread?

  18. N. O'Brain says:

No this is the NASCAR-doesn’t-get-it’s-own-racism thread.

    BECAUSE OF TEH MONKEEES!!!!!

  19. JD says:

    I miss the nishitiot.

  20. urthshu says:

Um. OK, try this for ersatz idiocy.

  21. Darleen says:

    urthshu

Oh my lord. Where is that clip from???

Though, I have to tell you my dad has stories of his DI days that substantiate that clip.

  22. Sdferr says:

Vaclav Klaus’ address to the European Parliament. I’m tempted to say restoring reason to its rightful place in the precincts of European politics, but I think that may go a bit too far. So instead let’s say: voicing a view not heard very often in that august assembly.

  23. urthshu says:

Darleen – its some kind of scandi ‘gay army’ tv reality show. I figured, in the absence of nishi, it would substitute…

  24. Techie says:

If you don’t say the right things, your grant proposal doesn’t get funded. It’s as simple and as chilling as that.

  25. Abe Froman says:

This stuff scares the fcuk out of me because my scientific knowledge is so limited, but my understanding of how perfectly global warming politics align with leftist ideology ranging from hatred of suburbia to hatred of the free market to creepy mother earth worship leaves me with no choice but to be skeptical. It would be nice if more actual scientists had the guts to stand up though, because – and I hope I’m not alone in this – my limited knowledge makes me feel a little uncomfortable going out on a limb against the scientific community simply because I distrust the left.

  26. Dan Collins says:

Abe, as a general rule, if an idea is able to stand on its objective merits, you don’t have to cook the evidence.

  27. Ric Locke says:

    Abe,

For people like yourself, start here and follow the links. These are all people who know what they’re talking about, and have solid evidence to back it up.

    Regards,
    Ric

  28. Dan Collins says:

I’ve never had a whole lot of time for Yglesias, but he’s gotten even screechier over this business since the new administration. He’s become another full-time idiot.

  29. I’ve never had a whole lot of time for Yglesias,

I was rather amused to see a letter to the editor in the most recent Wilson Quarterly from him, though. something about the most popular bloggers not being so anonymous as some dude has suggested.

  30. slackjawedyokel says:

Jeebus Barack on a pogo stick, Dan! As if I didn’t already despise our beloved governor, that flabby-faced little socialist bitch Timmy Kaine to the point of wanting to do an Elvis to the television set every time they show the lying smarmy bastard, you’ve given me yet another reason.

    SECEDE? YES WE CAN!

  31. JHoward says:

Good to see you back, Ric.

  32. SteveG says:

Maybe every Supreme Court decision should be 9-0 from now on so the hopeyness doesn’t get tired.
Chavez probably hates hybrids, but his leadership skills seem to be being used by Global Warming “scientists”. I am looking forward to the return of Noriega style “Dignity Battalions” to deal with dissenters of all stripes.
Disagree with Global Warmingists? Rebar to the skull and a torching of your home.
Dissent with the Obama over the stimulus? You will be beaten with your own signage and then audited.
