No attribution. Russ from Winterset at Ace’s:
Iowahawk (AKA Dave Burge) is one of the funniest men on the interwebthingy, and even though he’s a filthy Iowa Hawkeye fan, he’s still a fellow native Iowan who’s made good. Those of us in Iowa who have web access are just as proud of Mr. Burge as we are of other native Iowans who’ve made good, like John Wayne, Wyatt Earp, Herbert Hoover, the guy who played “Peter” on “Office Space” (Ron Livingston) or the woman who does the voice for Mrs. Krabappel on the Simpsons (Marcia Wallace). Dave put up a parody ad for “Congressional Motors” at his site back before Thanksgiving, and almost as soon as his genius hit the web, some douchebag “right-wing”* talk show host cut and pasted it onto his own station’s website without a whisper of attribution to the creator.
Here’s a link to the fucktard and his station’s (cough, cough) OPEN COMMENTS SECTION (cough).
Now I’m not encouraging anyone to drive to San Diego to put a boot in Mr. Roberts’ ass. I’m all about the love; and in the spirit of the Holiday Season, maybe we could show Mr. Roberts just a little glimpse of the love we have for asshats who steal the work of others and pass it off as their own. It’s a tough love, but it’s fair.
If you find this behavior reprehensible, there’s a list of things that you might do to show it.
Oh yeah, I’ve left more than one choice rant on several his latest blogposts. As have thousands of others.
The radio station advertisers must be notified, as well. Or boycotted. Or both.
Not just a thief, a lazy thief. Doubly contemptable.
Now that Joey B. has been rewarded for his behavior with the Vice-Presidency, I guess Plagiarism is OK, in fact, like all things Obama, it’s in even…
Come to think of it O! raised a few lines of of movies (Malcom X-Denzel) and other folks speeches…
But, after all, I guess that Ted Sorensen and David Axelrod are allowed to sell more than one seat liscence of their creative work…
Plagiarizing Putz should be fired!
Thanks for the link, Dan. You know what: I damn near made a reference to “making Rick Roberts into an Internet Verb”, but I figured the joke would be too “inside baseball” for most of the commenters. Plus, I’d have to hat tip one more blogger for putting content out there for me to steal, and since I’m basically lazy, I decided to run the piece without that particular joke.
Hey, my pleasure. I thought of stealing your whole post without attribution, to be funny.
Now THAT would have been classic!
[…] From Dan..“If you find this behavior reprehensible, there’s a list of things that you might do to show it.” […]
For what it’s worth, the station in San Diego has finally put up an attribution to Iowahawk.
Also, I let Dave Burge know that once “Officer Vic” was notified of the origin of the material, he attributed it on-air.
BTW, Dave’s video with OV’s audio is spectacular.
More than one douchebag; Mike Rosen of KOA has it in his RMN column too. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/dec/19/rosen-congressional-motors/
I just dropped Mike a note with the link to the original piece http://iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/2008/11/lemon.html and a gentle hint that he might want to give credit where it’s due.
I suggest a few more gentle, polite notes to mikerosen@850koa.com would be appropriate before someone sends a letter to KOA management and the RMN complaining of the plagiarism.
I don’t remember seeing any attribution at all on the KFMB site or on Rick Roberts’ blog. And believe me, I was checking.
I was the one who first brought the plagiarism to iowahawk’s attention, and I had left comments on Rick Robert’s blog letting him and his staff know they were busted.
Yet, WEEKS went by and no attribution. Iowahawk told me his legal team was getting involved because he had not gotten a single response from KFMB.
Next thing you know, the Rick Roberts blog disappeared completely.
