Even better, Constitution Arms says it’s had it certified by the FDA as a “Class I Medical Device.” That means doctors could prescribe the handgun to qualified patients, who would then have some or all of the cost reimbursed by Medicare or private insurance.
I’m not sure which is more disturbing, the “Class I Medical Device” bit, or the “Even better” editorializing at the start.
Not that I’m agin’ it, I’m fer it. Gramma having a firearm she can use easily could be a very good thing. But I do wonder about the accuracy with that short a barrel. What would the effective range be?
How does the Palm Pistol know how to aim only at the elderly and disabled, and why is the Palm Pistol racist and sexist in its exclusion of minorities and women from its selected groups?
I think that this pistol is probably a good thing, since attacks by predator crooks against the elderly are becoming more widespread-especially here in NYC.
But, I have to agree with Darth Rove about the whole medicare angle. Just like I don’t want the government paying for abortion on demand, I also don’t want them buying old folks pistols. I mean, what are we doing? Creating a gray militia..?
The pistol is fine, people having it is also fine, but I don’t think the government buying ot for them is…
Besides, there are loads of unintended consequences in the offing. What if the crook simply takes it from them? And, what if it motivates the crooks to pre-emptively kill their victims, lest they be shot in the process. Also, what about them turning the pistols on themselves, or against each other in a fit of peake? What happens if they become mentally debilitated? It raises a lot of questions regarding personal responsibility…
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a wide open, second amendment supporter who believes we should be able to posess any guns we please. I’m not hand wringing, but just sayin’…
On the accuracy question, since you cannot aim it, it’s obviously a very short-range weapon. However, as it’s a single-shot device, I don’t see it as being all that great.
… the world’s first ergonomically designed firearm.
Erm, no. Here’s a Turbiaux Palm-Squeezer Pistol that functions almost exactly like our ergonomic offering, patented in Paris, France in 1882 (and it had a capacity of 10 rounds). Clearly, there’s nothing new under the sun..
But think of the 2d Amendment argument. “Look, you want to take away firearms from people while you are paying for people to be armed? Do you want to take on AARP? Are you politically insane?”

I don’t know. It looks like the recoil is spread out over a larger area than it would be with a conventional pistol. It is 9mm, a rather tame cartrige. It’s obviously intended for very in close shooting.
Mikey. Some motorcycle gang members built single shot 12 ga. into their handlebars.
Can we swap one of these for Pat Leahy’s inhaler?
I don’t think Leahy inhales, Jeffersonian. But I do think you’ve foreseen a lawsuit.

Yeah, it needs a magazine.
This isn’t really new. Little pistols of varying levels of cleverness have been worked on for a long time.
I keep mine in the bathroom. Just in case.

Is that pronounced “turbo”? Because I’m mega into turbo.
Yeah, Swen, I’ve seen that one before. I’d never have remembered the name, though. The only thing the new one has is more caliber.
Turbiaux Palm-Squeezer Pistol
Pretty cool. At first I read Gaulois as Gauloise, and was surprised that they used to make cartridges as well as chemical weapons.
Next: the Apple iShoot (blame my wife for that one).
This smells like a hoax to me. Especially the part about Medicare.
Besides, can you imagine the recoil on this thing?

Rusty – I did not know that. Must have made riding a little more of an effort.
BANG
“OWWW! &*$#@*”
“Sorry about that, Big Dog!”
