“Verizon fires workers over Obama cell phone records breach”

CNN:

Verizon Wireless has fired employees connected to a breach of records from a cell phone used by President-elect Barack Obama this year, a Verizon source said Friday.

The source would not say how many people were terminated but said “we now consider this matter closed.”

Verizon reported the breach Thursday, and Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said the transition team had been notified Wednesday. Gibbs said the president-elect no longer uses that phone, which has been inactive for months.

The fired employees were hired “to take care of customers,” the Verizon source said, and were not authorized to access customer records unless asked to do so by the customer.

The source also said the employees in question could not have read text messages, if Obama sent or received them, and would not have been able to access the content of any voice mail messages, although they would have been able to see whether any had been left.

“This was some employees’ idle curiosity,” the source said, adding that records of no other customers of note were breached.

Wow, the speed at which a private company moves, eh?

Whereas

Gee. I can’t wait until universal healthcare! You…?

Strickland ought to be recalled. If I were an Ohioan, I’d be calling for his head.

Will what happens to the Democrat guy what hacked Governor Palin’s email account meet with an approving nod from Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs is what I wonder.

You’d think they’d also call for the termination of the Ohio gubmint folks that misused their access to try and smear Joe the plumber…

I mean, Christa Freeland of the Financial Times once stated that scndal publicity was more apt to be afforded to Republicans; more reporters would be dispached and dig up info in an effort to correct the hypocrisy

And, you know, O! and his cadre couldn’t possibly be guilty of that

Better for them to avoide tha appearance, and call for Strickland to fire them all…

He’s been charged with a felony. If these phone records were sold, that could be a crime too. Dubya signed a law last year protecting phone records. Alas not your right to access youtube.

He’s been charged but his lawyer won a delay for some reason is all I know.

That was incorrect. Sold or transferred. Punished by up to 10 years in jail. Serious shit. That Palin hacker’s potential punishment is lower, potentially just a misdemeanor.

The second half of the message has been delivered…

    Did you get all that?

  9. “no other customers of note“???

Isn’t it funny that Helen Jones-Kelley only got suspended a month for accessing JTP’s records? Phone records seem a tad bit innocuous in comparison. YMMV.

  11. B Moe says:

Maybe that is why the media and the FEC are so afraid to look into Obama’s campaign fund credit card records, they are afraid of getting fired.

Good, but could be more accurate. Try:

It’s good to be The Messiah.

Just stay away from the fastener department at the hardware store.

As well they should have been fired, if there’s no more to the story (such as a legitimate customer service reason, error, etc). That’s not the scandal here; the scandal is that folks on the right, and “people of no note” don’t seem to get the same consideration. It’s chilling, really.

Good to be the king, indeed.

No one cares about my phone records. I called the French so they’d help us kick Hezbollah out of southern Lebanon…oh wait! Got LSD?

Nah, he thinks of himself more as Joshua. I don’t think you can be both.

    And in the promised land,
    it’s gonna be so grand;
we’ll have our fill from the grill,
as much as we can stand!
    It’ll be so great!
    Oh, we can hardly wait!
’cause we’re going to the promised land!
