Because nobody gets their news here — and because, at this stage of the game, GOP stalwart blogs are busy stroking each other like cyber swingers at a John Updike key party — I am free, as a party outsider, to take time off today to do nothing.
On other hand, Darleen, Dan, et al are still giving “making a difference” a go over at the Pub. Enjoy.
A day off? What’s a minion to do?
I could just go to the Gym.
catch up on the paper…
Enjoy yourself Jeff,
BTW, how’s the shoulder doin’?
Maggie, don’t get me STARTED on the newspaper. I tried reading that this morning, but the opinion page had a full half-page picture of thoughtful-Obama-head-resting-on-his-hand and that was all I needed to see to declare the entire paper a piece of worthless SHIT. “OBAMA OFFERS SOUND JUDGEMENT: Barack Obama’s reasoned solutions and thoughtful temperment make him the clear choice over John McCain.”
Why do I buy this paper? And then I broke a tooth, so now I’m pissed and my paper sucks.
You deserve a break today
so get up and get away
to Wendys
Why do I buy this paper?
Good question. Why don’t you stop? I did.
GOP stalwarts?
I know who I am going to vote for, and have known that for months. No finesse, really. I will not vote for the ‘G-D- America’ candidate. I will not; I will vote for the candidate that bled for America.
End of discussion.
How ’bout that Colin Powell.
I honor Mr. Powell’s service, but I don’t have to agree with his choice nor respect his obvious classism.
I don’t think there will be a Bradley effect. Sister Palin has green-lighted all the racists out of the closet, frankly.
Colin Powell could’ve taken up Obama (who most likely went to one knee, or at least deigned him a nod) and accepted the VP position when it was offered. Instead, he waits until the last minute and, almost as an afterthought, offers his support.
Puts him in lockstep with the rest of the 98%ers.
He’s just following the herd, now.
I honor and admire General/Secretary Powell. I don’t agree with his assessment though, nor his endorsement. But, I respect his judgement, for himself, and his right to voice his opinion as well as the weight with some it will carry; selfishly though, I hope that it is too late to be a real game changer…
But you know it’ll be running on a loop tape all day tomorrow on MSNBC…
*sigh*
The Left is the source of every bit of racism in this election cycle. They revel in it because racism is the basest form of collectivism.
The “diversity” and “multicultural” family Obama is to be swooned over; the multicultural Palins are to be ignored. Classism.
Enjoy your day off, sir.
It will be you screaming “dance MONKEY DANCE” in the morrow.
Me? I’m just a hater. Mrs. Tmj told me so after I was foolish enough to opine in response to the Powell endorsement.
Hate? Yah, I hate me a communist, and the people who support him for whatever their personal reasons deserve no respect, either. If Powell wants a mint julip and a place on the plantation that bad, well, good for him. We all make choices. Nothing says I have to make nice about an ethical, moral, and professional betrayal on a tectonic scale.
Welcome home, Colin. I can send that signed book off to D.I. now.
A gang of offputtingly clean — “Kanye-ass” is probably the adjective juste — Obamanites, ushered by three distant silent minders from Whitey Local 151, came to my door last night, cult recruiting.
“Oh, you’re a musician! My cousin’s [that guy you know]! You play ball? My cousin’s [that other guy you might know too]! Oh [everything visible from here]! Us [all those things]!”
I’m surprisingly pleasant in real life, and I generally strike people who care about it as some kind of leftist, so there was no friction and they went away satisfied (though also somewhat can’t-put-a-finger-on-it not), but coming face to face with his Witnesses was a real bucket of shit poured on the day.
You’d think these buddy-buddy guys would have made a nice contrast to the violent O!FORCErs I’ve been running in with lately, but…they were dead.
That’s not a good life. I still feel terrible.
This is the last election I’m ever paying any attention to. People deformed by these things are too horrible to look at.
I don’t think there will be a Bradley effect. Sister Palin has green-lighted all the racists out of the closet, frankly.
(Or the women-haters, gaging from reactions. Sometimes mom’s don’t defend their own kids, I’m told…)
Anyway, because if you think about it, even if it were true, it would be entirely within her and their rights. Cool, huh? Nobody making speech rules and stuff. Robert Byrd’s land is your land. Still.
Darleen gets it in #14. And does so by observing, not projecting.
Me, gonna go vote me a racist.
Corrected formatting, frankly:
There has not been a “Bradley effect” in elections where there might have been (Black vs White candidates) since 1996.
JHoward
When Obama cultists started labeling Bill Clinton a “racist” it was clear that reality and facts are just not a priority for The Left.
Is Colon Powell known as someone with keen political insight? I detest tokenism. Powell is one of the more unremarkable people to serve in the position he served (unless being sort of black makes you special). Who gives a shit who he endorses?
Darleen,
as they say here in NYC, true dat…
Powell? Very Bush I. Realpolitic. Realist foreign policy. Prop up dictators — the enemy you know. Keep the status quo. Everything the left used to rail against when it was Kissinger and Nixon doing the leading. They even bombed buildings (hi, Bill and Bernardine, Mark and Naomi!).
Enjoy, lefties. Maybe you can pick up the Buchanan vote, too.
Pretending Baracky is something he’s not is pretty fucking gay of Colin Powell I think.
You know Cynthia McKinney is on the ticket this year too. But, I guess Colin is going with the “Bros before Hos” theme.
Wait — you have to be a party outsider to take time off and do nothing?
Does that mean Fred Thompson was a party outsider when he was running for president? <rimshot>
I support the military-industrial complex, but I think Powell wasn’t all that. Look at the stupid ‘Powell Doctrine’, for example. Recipe for ineffective non-action, half measures and defeat.
If his wife wasn’t bugshit crazy Colin would have been the first African American president I think.
Does this apply to an O! administration?
I thank Powell for his endorsement of O!, because I was at the gym when I heard it (I was SHOCKED, you know) so it added that extra angry oompf to my workout.
Fuck Pottery Barn it was an accident and they shouldn’t have had that shit sitting out like that all repressivey and anti-American and collaborating with terrorists and within missile range of all kinds of strategic oil shit. What did they fucking think was gonna happen? I’m so canceling that gay-assed catalog. Can’t afford that shit anyway.
You know, If O gets elected, in a coupla years I wanna line up all these “conservatives” who are endorsing The One and they’re going to have to answer a few questions.
dre –
that can be interpreted in 2 ways at least. 1] is ‘you’ve got a responsibility to clean it up’, but 2] is the current one – ‘its your fault, bad USA’
its why libs lurve them the powellz
Baracky won’t win, Carin. America has already had plenty of change and Baracky’s a socialist thug anyway. That just doesn’t have a lot of appeal to people what actually vote.
People don’t realize that, Happy. They just think Hope and Change, and certainly he’s not going to raise THEIR taxes. Baracky’s gonna figure out how to solve all our problems by taxing those who need to be a bit more patriotic.
And, certainly no one realizes that we are on the verge of voting Democrats into complete control of our government. I can’t think that all those moderates could possibly think that is a good thing.
Anybody read the Warren Bonesteel piece that Insty linked? About a ‘social singualrity’ I mean.
good article, just don’t agree with the conclusions drawn.
Warren comes by here. He’s written that the ‘net population will double soonish, and thinks we’re going towards a meritocracy or creditability society – but what I think is truer is that we’re going more international socialist-y, with the US/West being the last holdouts and WTF just give it up already and join us, would you? The pressure will be immense. It made me reflect the reason Neocons are so hated mostly b/c they want to export our revolutionary thought to the world and thats a competitor.
Baracky’s hopey ass is gonna get smacked by basic survival instincts I think. People realize more than you think I think.

I’m think more like all these country club rethuglicans who want O! are they held responsible for an O! disaster.
My wife just threw a fork at me.
I’d hoped it was foreplay.
She explained it was political metaphor… and to use to eat the baked potatoE she was preparing.
I exclaimed that she had hurt me on many levels, but she’d already left for parts of our home unknown.
Go Jets!!
I hope you’re right Happy. I have fears, though.
And, my tooth broke, and it’s hard to be optimistic with a broken tooth. Such things always happen on a Sunday, when you can’t call a dentist to at least set up an appointment.
The fears is shared by lots and lots and fear is a greater motivator than that empty hopey shit.
Some hospitals have emergency dentists, Carin
Carin
Better now than next year after O! nationalizes healthcare and you’ll take care of your broken tooth like a stout Brit
with a pair of pliers from your garage.
I thought they already had that. Or has he endorsed McKinney this year?
Oh, it doesn’t hurt. It’s a tooth that I had a root canal on a few years back. It’s just uncomfortable and unattractive.
I hope so. I think “we” need to start hammering down the possibility of a democratic super majority.
They sell McBushCo conspiracy pot-boilers at my local Blockbuster, ‘feets. Teachin’ all the ReBiblican wingnuttertards with a 6′ display right when you walk in. Nearly fell to my knees, quaking.
I think we should also wonder a bit about what gets unleashed when Baracky gets kicked to the curb. For some reason I think McCain is a good guy for handling that sort of thing. Better than Giuliani would have been anyway.
Sigh. Most everyone must be watching football. Being a Lions fan, I’m giving this season (like the last ten) a pass. I could go and plant bulbs, but I did that this morning, and I got a tad bored. Planting bulbs isn’t nearly as fun as planting plants. When you’re done, there’s nothing there. Depressing, kinda.
@49
Something like this if O! wins probably bloodier if O! loses:
‘feets, Bush will still be President for the first several months of the aftermath.
Shouldn’t sashal be here peacocking about the Powell endorsement?
Politico had a bit from Rush – Rush wanted to know what other liberal, inexperienced, white politicians he’d endorsed. Since it’s not about race. The comments are a hoot. And, by “hoot” – I mean unhinged.
I’m glad I’m not living in Detroit – win or lose. I’m sure it will be crazy. Everything is celebrated in that town by shooting bullets into the air. Machine guns, whatever. It’s really pretty terrifying.
Much depends on if O! would be gracious in defeat. He’s run unopposed the whole time, if you exclude the Keyes thing [I do] and never has suffered a defeat. So we don’t know if he’s a sore loser or what.
Apropos of nothing, I trust, yet my hope for a post-racial Kumbaya if Obama wins in tempered by the fact that the Watts Riots began 5 days after LBJ signed the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
And yes, Michele has me way out of my comfort zone.
FTFY.
Seriously, to swallow O!’s “Change You Can Believe In” BS, people have to be dangerously credulous at the very least. They have to be willing to believe that a rabbit really goes hopping around the night before Easter, hiding colored hardboiled eggs. They have to be willing to believe that their telephone votes really decide who wins on “American Idol.” They have to be willing to believe that the next version of Windows really will work.
Anyone with two working brain cells to rub together should be able to ask themselves, “How am I supposed to believe in Change I Can Believe In™ if nobody can point out any examples of actual change that O! has brought about before? Why am I supposed to believe somebody who’s never made a difference worth talking about while serving in the Illinois legislature or the U.S. Senate, is suddenly going to start making a difference upon becoming president?”
I only vote for change if I don’t have to Believe™ in it before I see it.
I honestly don’t understand how people have swallowed O!’s message. But, they have. Witness here at PW, where we’ve NEVER been able to get our residents trolls to explain what O’s gonna do.
WTF McGehee, don’t you get it?
He’s black! That’s change, you best believe it, beyotch
He looks kind of dulce de leche-colored to me.
“Sweet and creamy”?
Eh, whatevs. Not like the guys on the cash, anyway
Hey, visited a trout farm today. Little fishies can jump! They kept biting each other, though, and I just know that Baracky will heal their differences when he assumes office. I kin feelz it!
Colin Powell is angling to be the next William Sebastian Cohen.
On papers and why to buy. I get the Sunday rag for the sale flyers and Dilbert. The rest is fishwrap since I don’t have a bird in a cage and I am not training a new puppy.
I wish. Tomorrow! hopefully, we can live in more than just one bedroom. OTOH, probably not a bad thing that I couldn’t watch the Cowboys get trounced. blech.
fishwrap? Well, hey, you should come to the trout farm next time and hand some out then.
Carin,
Sorry about your tooth, I broke one too last month and the only thing that hurt was the bill for the crown. $775.
I sympathize on the Lions. I haven’t watched them much since I was a child. Then they had Alex Karras, Bobby Layne, Tery Barr and Night Train Lane. Man did I love the Lions and the Tigers when I was growing up, sigh.
I love my local paper for just that… local news, sports, etc. Lileks was very right on that matter. I have never read the editorials beyond the first few attempts. And that was as a kid. They have not changed.
I only ever had to read the NYT in college for a couple of classes. i enjoyed it… went well with cigarettes, coffee, and a peanut butter cookie. I did not agree with the articles, but as a study, it was awesome. Than I threw it away. And had more coffee.
I get the Sunday rag for the sale flyers and Dilbert.
Dilbert’s online. So are the ads for most of the major stores.
Even if you, personally, disregard the propaganda, your subscription revenue and (far more important) the advertising revenue that your subscription generates, is helping to facilitate the propagandization of your fellow citizens.
Not a good thing, dude.
Just today my wife commented on how often our local hometown daily (not the AJC — we’ve never taken that poodle-killer) is discarded without ever coming out of the blue plastic rain protector, and said maybe next time subscription renewal comes up she’ll throw in the towel and let it lapse.
What I want from the paper I get online, now that they’ve got a decent web presence.
Colin who?
Um, I was going to say “caramel,” but I decided that’s still not light enough. Hence…
I was using the phrase in its “ice cream flavor” connotation, not its literal(ish) translation that I’m sure thor would agree with.
&l;shudder>
You are probably right but, there is always a but isn’t there, Even though I’m online alot I prefer to read things on paper I possible. It’s more portable. I’m old fashioned like that. And it’s only the Sunday paper from a small town and I buy it at a local store.
And the main reason, my wife would kill me if I didn’t get it. :-)
Also more typos than usual tonight.
Oh, sorry McGehee. I forgot that us hicks are only supposed to know merci beaucoup
I watched “The Sting” the other night on AMC. I like the movie. I can see a different way of looking at it. You have Paul Newman/Henry Gondorff/George Soros and Robert Redford/Johnny Hooker/Barack Obama running a scam on Robert Shaw/Doyle Lonnegan/America. It is set in Chicago too.
Dallas Morning News endorsed McCain this morning. Not much chance of Texas going for the O! but still…Can’t wait to see what they have to say about my Cowboys tomorrow.
McGehee – tell the wife to call to cancel the subscription. I gave up on my local weekend rag a while back and decided to let the subscription expire. They’ve still been delivering the thing for close to a month past the expiration date now but I never think to call until it shows up on my doorstep (on the weekend when their offices are not open). It’s a librul conspiracy, it is.
Hate to say it, but … Thor is right when he said.
“I don’t think there will be a Bradley effect. Sister Palin has green-lighted all the racists out of the closet, frankly.”
Palin might have been the trigger that was about to pop anyway. It could have been anything to completely unmask Obama’s followers. But it’s not racism. Its something else and it’s beyond even hate. By ALL means, Obama must be elected.
I link to and read articles in the bogs sites, including MSM sources. Generally I’m not in the mood for it, but on occasion I force myself to read the comments at those sites.
One article was about the $150 million Obama has raised in September alone. The commentors are saying are pouring their money into his campaign.
Though money isn’t the only formula to win, the powerful emotion behind their donations is very definitely extraordinary, and its not just the usual disgust toward the right. The feeling I got from the comments was palpable, beyond BDS and its evolution to PDS and now JTPDS.
There isn’t any way the McCain campaign can push back. Facts aren’t in play here. It’s not going to matter what information finally fights its way out about Obama, his associations and his vacuousness are his positives, and THAT’s a powerfully simple formula to win. Nothing exposed about Obama that will register as a negative.
I’ll WILL be voting straight Rep ticket in November. But, its not going to make a great deal of difference. I’m preparing for an Obama presidency.
Not in a panic. Just realistic.
kasper
A funny thing about all O!’s money…how much of it is legit? I’m quite sure a huge portion of the “small” donations are tainted.
But the MSM refuses to examine the messiah. So dirty or not, Obama can just buy the Presidency with the tainted money and with promises to O! voters that they will get a portion of their neighbor’s earnings for “free.”
This isn’t an election, it is the coronation of the God-King.
Kasper, don’t SAY that. I need happy back.
I will admit, though, to thinking through coping strategies of an Obama presidency. My husband is trying to figure out ways to hide any money his company may make. Multiply that by a factor of X, and Obama will be wondering why the tax revenue is going down …
It’s ok for the left to buy the presidency. Because, it’s the people speaking or some such bullshit.
(be prepared for drunk commenting – broken tooth, self medicating … yada yada yada …)
“Though money isn’t the only formula to win, the powerful emotion behind their donations is very definitely extraordinary, and its not just the usual disgust toward the right. T”
It maybe part of “The Sting”. Because the Sting relied upon “the powerful emotion behind their donations” in placing bets.
oh yeah the tax shelter industry is totally in the tank for the O!
i wish i could drink carin. got a surgery tomorrow 6am. bleh gotta sleeep soon
If it were the AJC we’d do that, but the Times-Herald isn’t that bad. Honestly, the only reason we’d be dropping them is, as I said, we don’t need to get the paper to read the content that interests us.
If it were the kind of newspaper that I’d sooner throw at the neighbor’s yappy poodle, we … well, we never did subscribe to that one, it being, as noted above, the AJC.
In fact, the AJC used to litter our driveway every Thursday with a free shoppers’ version of their paper. That I did call to tell them to stop. To their credit, they did.
If you recall “The Sting” relied upon having access to the Western Union lines of communications. Weird in a way.
What kind of surgery urthshu?
I’ll drink to your health if need be …
“the reason Neocons are so hated mostly b/c they want to export our revolutionary thought to the world and thats a competitor.”
Yes. That is exactly why.
The thing is, I LURV reading an actual paper. I get a lot of news online, but nothing beats a paper in the hand with a cup of Joe.
But, a paper with actual content would take precedent over AlGore’s internet.
Actually there two parts to “The Sting” Gondorff/Hooker/Soros/Obama take Lonnegan/Clinton/America’s money on a poker game on the train. Gondorff/Hooker/Soros/Obama then set out to establish a “gaming parlor” whereby Lonnegan/America is taken to the cleaners with the help of the “feds”.
Omotion is strong. It seems they are happy to just sigh and let go of America.
Like little oysters out for a walk.
Not very aware of the loaf of bread O is carrying.
The key piece to “The Sting” is the ability to infiltrate the means of communication in order to show that the game can be fixed.
I kind of love it when pols do something like this: Pelosi: 100% Barack’s gonna win
It’s like some force in the universe just took notice and arrayed itself against Pelosi.
carin
just my arm. taking out hardware fr the elbow i shattered. can’t eat/drink/take meds for 12 hours.
I canceled my fishwrap delivery in May of ’07, after they posted a list of all Tennesseans who had a concealed carry permit; they published both names and home addresses. Pretty much that was the final straw. Why should I support a rag that potentially makes my home a target for thieves, just because editorial policy decides to ‘punish’ those of us who abide by the law?
Screw ’em. They supported Gore, Kerry, and of course Obama, by default. No more money from me.
I’m sure the resident “language man”, EVERYBODY MR. JEFF G., could do a better job of this mini rant. But, what else could you call Sen. Barack H. Obama other than a grifter?
Thread is probably dead but what the heck.
From the “Pelosi !00%” link.
“Luntz said, “I believe Barack Obama is going to be the next president of the United States. … John McCain cannot communicate. Stevie Wonder reads a teleprompter better than John McCain.”
So now we elect the best teleprompter reader. All News-Anchors should rejoice. Let the auditions begin.
That’s how media types (and Hollywood) judge competence. How you appear on TV, or how well you read a script. Another sign of how deeply we are influenced by the media.
But, they’ve massaged this message for years. Bush was an idiot, right?
Whitey Local 151,
That’s funny as hell.
“Some of my best friend………………………” though, is just annoying.
