Uh oh

We all now know (well, with the exception of Matt Damon and a handful of diehards at Dkos) that the Sarah Palin “banned books” list being circulated is an internet hoax, with several of the titles on that list published after Governor Palin attempted to run roughshod over the Constitution.

Still, Palin has to answer for the actual record of book banning in Wasilla; and as conservatives, we shouldn’t be willing to circle the wagons just because we are personally impressed with what we’ve seen publicly thus far from Governor Palin.

It pains me to say it, but let her have it. Because this must not stand.

Next, as BMoe suggested this previously, I say we begin a grassroots movement looking into whether or not books like Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism are available from your local libraries. Compared with, say, a book by Al Franken — or What’s the Matter with Kansas by Thomas Frank.

Anybody with good library search access willing to put in the time? For FREEDOM?

  1. BTW, WorldCat is a good starting point for anyone who wants to do searches across multiple libraries.

Are there any lesbian mommies in Wasilla for real? I think more better would be a book called Heather’s Mommy Shot a Moose and Killed It Dead or Heather’s Mommy Actually Loves America For Real Unlike Nancy Pelosi or even Heather’s Mommy Was Going to Vote for Baracky but He Called Her a Hick so She Didn’t. You have to stretch your acquisition dollar as far as you can these days I think.

  4. geoffb (JARAIP) says:

My local library lists Goldberg’s “Liberal Fascism”, all of Ann Coulter’s books, two books by Al Franken, three books by Thomas Frank and the “Heather has Two Mommies” along with others by Leslea Newman.

I would expect nothing less as I’ve used them since I was a child and they have never to my knowledge censored anything. Access to adults only for some thing yes. But even there, I’d go as an elementary school student and could use my mothers card to get anything. That was in the 1950’s.

  5. happyfeet says:

Liberal Fascism is a lot checked out here in Los Angeles. There’s probably a socialist activist group what takes turns checking them out so nobody can read it is what I bet.

  6. happyfeet says:

Libraries are crawling with socialists here. And homeless people.

  7. PC14 says:

In 1956 I was 12 years old when the movie BABY DOLL was banned. That sure got our attention. How little I appreciated that the Catholic Legion of Decency was really looking out for us…cause early blindness certainly would have been a drag.

  9. serr8d says:

At Vanderbilt, a search for “Jonah Goldberg” brings one result for Jonah Goldberg, and additional hits for Aaron Brown, Jeff Greenfield and others. The book, checked out.

Al Franken“: 12 hits; the Rush book on the shelf. Many items available for online access.

At least Jonah Goldberg’s book is checked out. Haven’t heard of any book burnings scheduled..

Yes, you’ve seen so much of her. That one interview was sooooo very impressive.

As long as they don’t ban “How to Care for Turtles”, because that would get the Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch on them big time. Fear the Turtle Troopers.

  12. RTO Trainer says:

Dallas Public Libraries has 4 of 9 copies available of Liberal Fascism.

20 titles for Al Franken which includes Audio books, and SNL season collections.

  14. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Maybe the Progressive school boards could do one called Heather gets an STD for pre-schoolers.

  15. RTO Trainer says:

Funny thing: I put the search in as “Al Franken.” Didn’t lknow hat it wanted “Franken, Al.” Cam eback with over 2000 its for surnames beginning with “al-“.

  16. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Well thor. Your clown candidate won’t have to worry about any “real” interviews. Its above his paygrade.

  17. C Smith says:

    @Thor,
Half the story of the Gibson interview was that Palin is certainly ready for the VP job.
The other half was Gibson and ABC playing hard to stereotypes of the MSM as a bunch of condescending propaganda mongers miscalling themselves journalists.
The Fox interview doesn’t promise to offer any less bias, alas.
Maybe PJTV can break new ground with both parties by offering interviews that don’t suck pondwater.
    Hey, it could happen.

  18. Sdferr says:

ditto on the al franken search RTO, not one item returned was franken, but many arabic al-something or others. heh.

16 Goldberg LF……..(in 10 libraries) out of 16 in the county system
    4 Frank WMWK……….(in 4 libraries)
    7 Frank TWC………..(in 6 libraries)
    5 Franken RLBFI…….(in 5 libraries)
    8 Franken LLLWTT……(in 6 libraries)
There are four other Franken books I’ll not bother to detail beyond noting multiple copies of each well distributed.

Lee county, Fl. One of the most conservative counties in America so I’ve been told. People here do turn out in big numbers when Vice President Cheney comes to town, not with pitchforks and torches as elsewhere, but because they admire him.

Half the story of the Gibson interview was that Palin is certainly ready for the VP job.

    Stories fer sure.

Dan Collins is a more credible Veep candidate than good Sister Palin, but so is nishi so I won’t go overboard playing that game.

  20. ThomasD says:

Heather’s Mommy Loves Beaver; Tales from an Alaskan Trapper

    Now there’s an authentic title.

  21. steveaz says:

    Spies,
So, while the cats are away, the mice “weed” the library, huh?

    No peer review, no forenotice…

    Spooky, man. That’s just spooky.

  22. dicentra says:

I live in Utah. Conservative books never get banned, though they might get hid. More likely they’re checked out all the time to people who actually want to read them.

  23. N. O'Brain says:

“Dan Collins is a more credible Veep candidate than good Sister Palin, but so is nishi so I won’t go overboard playing that game.”

The final proof, if any was needed, that thor is truly, deeply insane.

he/she/it has PMS: Palin Madness Syndrome.

    BECAUSE OF THE SARAHCUDA!!!!!

Behind the Orange Curtain in So. Cal (Orange County, hotbed of conservatives and godbotherers)

Goldberg… 1 title found, 9 (LF) one copy per branch of LF (most are checked out)
Franken … 12 titles found. 24 copies of “Lying Liars” across that many branches, 15 copies of “Limbaugh, big fat liar” across that many branches
Frank .. “Kansas”, 5 copies, one each to branches in the S. OC.

  26. Darleen says:

    addendum

“Heather has two mommies” 6 copies across 6 branches. 2 of those branches have it on the Parent shelf, the other 4 on the Children’s Shelf

  27. Warren Bonesteel says:

In Rapid City, I’m still upset with our local library. They put “Harry Potter” in the kid’s section instead of with the works by Joseph Campbell! (…and wth is Dr. Theodore Geisel’s work doin’ inna kid’s section? What’s up with that?)

I mean, after all, until a few years ago, one restaurant in Rapid City was still putting soup beans in their burritos, so what can ya expect. (No. That’s really what they thought was meant by ‘re-fried’ beans.)

They’re just cultural heathens around here. …well, except for that whole symphony and theatre thingy…and the Dahl Arts Center…and the half a dozen small, but decent museums… and all of those authors and artists and sculptors and dancers and master craftsmen. But the Professional Bullridin’ Rodeo kinda offsets alla that, too. Well…that, and the Pow-Wows. …and puttin’ “Harry Potter” inna kid’s section, of course.

I guess my question is where in the Berkeley Public Library a guy can find a book on moose hunting.

  29. We’re aware that Palin banned as many books as she read while mayor of the great metropolis of Wasilla, Jeff.

  30. Sean M. says:

Check out the rapier-like wit on Richard!

  31. thor says:

    Ha, good one Ricardo.

Sister Sarah could benefit from some Celine. That’d turn her happy mouth upside down, make her pita quiver, turn her lips piss-colored, blow her naive wonderment to shit. Besides the warning label on his Cialis prescription, I wonder what McCain reads. Jane’s, of course, what was I thinking.

  32. Mark A. Flacy says:

    Tapir-like wit, you mean.

  33. The Monster says:

Sarah Palin banned as many books as mayor as troopers she got fired as governor.

  34. Alec Leamas says:

Alls you have to do is go to your local library and request that they purchase a copy of the Turner Diaries for circulation. Let’s just go ahead and bet it’s pre-banned.

  35. RTO Trainer says:

Dallas Library has a copy of the Turner Diaries.

Hell, the Oklahoma City library has two.

  36. Richard Aubrey says:

See how many copies of “Confessions of An Economic Hit Man” your district has. Ours has thirteen. And about eight of each Harry Potter book. Back in the day when “Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus” was hot, our district had six, and when I put an order in, I was seventy-sixth. But the “Confessions….” is, according to our local library head, purchased as a baker’s dozen due to demand. Nuts.
I checked other districts. Seems as if Soros had a case sent to every district in the country.

    County library system
    Goldberg, Jonah – 0 books
Franken, Al – 10 books (several titles)

Six other local libraries (not part of county system)
Goldberg, Jonah – 2 books (Liberal Facism)
Franken, Al – 8 books (several titles)

  39. Pablo says:

Richard, stop making shit up. You just look silly.

Jeff, this guy is smart? And a Republican? I’m just not seeing it. Maybe this a doppleganger trying to discredit the smart guy. If so, it’s doing a pretty good job.

  40. Good reviews, public demand, and available money to purchase it ought to be the only things a library needs in order to stock a title. My red state library doesn’t seem to discriminate either way, politically.

  41. molyuk says:

I’m glad to see this rumor pimp-slapped. I knew she hadn’t actually banned any books, but it sure looked to me like she was thinking about it & forced out the librarian for refusing to play along.

That does it for me. I’m buying my ticket on the Palin Express. The Left’s been trying their damnedest to find something to slime her with, and they’ve got nothing. I’m buying my ticket on the Sarah Palin Express.

  42. Jim Treacher says:

I wrote a book about the books she’s banned, but she banned it. Then she shook her grandson Trig in my face and screamed, “Go back ta Russia!” (Which was right across the street.) This woman is a menace.

  43. SarahW says:

fallen into the William Shockley crazy-hole.

    That was my impression.

  44. MAJ (P) John says:

    “the William Shockley crazy-hole”

I thought that was a tavern in Stone Park, Illinois?

  45. Farmer Joe says:

    Metro Boston Library Network

Liberal fascism 8 copies, 3 available
    Coulter, Ann Lots of stuff.
    Limbaugh, Rush, Lots of stuff

    Franken, Al Lots of stuff
    Chomsky, Noam Lots of stuff

The Turner Diaries 1 copy, in-library use only
    —–

Looks like they’re pretty balanced. The leftist books seem to have more copies, but that probably reflects the demand more than anything else.

FWIW, I’ve been site ban before and when it happened they took out the entire ip range in my geographical area. I was inadvertently caught up in the moderators attempt to isolate a specific person, but after a quick e-mail exchange he was able to allow my ip to filter through.

At least that is how he explained it to me.
