The 38-year-old mayor, once seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, faces a trial on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and official misconduct stemming from a sex scandal and his handling of a whistle-blower lawsuit.
He went to neighboring Windsor, Canada, in July without informing authorities, a breach of a condition of his $75,000 bond that allowed him his freedom before trial.
The mayor’s jailing adds another layer of uncertainty to Detroit, the 11th largest U.S. city that is headquarters to the nation’s struggling auto industry.
Stop laughing! It’s not funny! Racists!
I’m ::snarfle:: not :snsnsnmppj: BWHAHAHAHHAHAHHAAAA
Ok, I’m laughing. Denounced &ct.
Hey, if you’re giving away free Kwame, I got one question before taking some off your hands, namely, does it keep well in the freezer?
Always picking on the Irish.
If an illegitimate kid turns up he’s in the mix for VP, isn’t he?
Ah…Windsor, Ontario. Canadian strippers.
Shocking! No, not Kwame’s behavior. It’s shocking that Reuters mentioned his party affiliation for once.
Kelly, that is the Windsor BALLET, thankyouverymuch.
But, the bigger news which came rather late this afternoon is that Jennifer Granholm has FINALLY decided that perhaps she should hold some sort of hearing to see if Kwame needs to be removed.
Oh, THAT is gonna be the fun part.
Ballet. Got it.
Maybe Ludicrous can do a “Free Kwame” rap.
First I was going to make a joke about laughing at the Irish not being racist, but B Moe beat me to it. Then I was going to mention Canadian strippers prancing around in their red long handles, but kelly beat me to it. I got nothin’.
I denounce all of you.
Detroit?
Let me guess. He will be re-elected, even if he is in jail for twenty years.
I like to think I’m not a racist, but I am definitely beginning to wonder. Kwaze, (I’m blanking on this one)that crackhead mayor of DC, Sharpe James…
Yeah. Changey hopiness. Can’t wait.
And I denounce myself, but there does seem to be an emerging pattern in some big cities. If you’re not the hated “rich white man”, it doesn’t mean shit if you break the “white man’s” law. After all, the rich white man is only paying the freight, and has no idea about other “special” cultures and how they deserve something for nothing, so sit down and STFU, white man!
RACIST I AM, I AM! I try really hard, though. Truly. But sometimes I just can’t ignore facts. And just to ameliorate my flight of fancy, let me add a few white names. Elliot Spitzer, Ted Stevens, What’s-his-gay-face from NJ (who used his “gayness” to cover up some amazing corruption), and on and on. Even the Republican party has gone off it’s nut.
And we let these idiots harangue us about morality and the way things “should be”!
“America is imperfect!”
Yeah, well fuck that. “Perfect” means that I work and you get my money to go buy some more crack and sit around watching your plasma TV. I emphatically do not mean this to be a blanket statement about any ethnic group, but the list of those who think like this is growing by leaps and bounds. And that list is a rainbow in color, not just monochrome. Too many people think that there is a finite pile of money, and that anyone who has more than they do has stolen their money. It’s insane.
Who are the bigger asshats? These corrupt politicians, or the people that elect them?
Or is it us, for sitting by and just letting this insanity happen?
Sometimes I think I should kick myself in the butt for not saying anything when something should have been said in a “moron gone wild” situation. Now, because I and too many others have been silent in loon situations, if I say anything, I risk an insult, at best, and a bullet in the head, at worst..
It’s ultimate crazy, baby!
Black Irish?
I strongly denounce myself and all of you.
Kwaze, Kwame, Iceberg – it’s all the same to me…
TLD: You are thinking of Marion Barry.
This may remove the reluctance from the governor to deal with this issue. We need some political guts in this state to step up and do what needs to be done.
“We need some political guts in this state to step up and do what needs to be done.”
The gov’s a liberal cannuck so no guts there.

Ditto
Oh. He was once seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party. That’s just pitiful.
Happyfeet –Pitiful is, he could still end up in the Congressional Black Caucus lawn-jockeying for Nancy…
A rising star in the Democratic Party?
Does this change anything? I mean, Canada. Michigan and Canada are like inseparable twins. He’ll probably get off by claiming ‘affairs of state’ or something of the sort.
Oh, OT but congrats to Michelle Malkin for fielding two top fives. I RSS-read Hot Air fairly regularly.
Jeff and Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Maguire should have been in there. I like them whereas many of the people in that list I do not like a whole lot. Mostly because they make me yawn even when I slept really good the night before.
HF, This won’t matter to the democraps, to them this only improves his street cred.
But that comes with an opportunity cost cause a for real serious person won’t get to serve. That’s very illogical, but you’re probably right.
Can’t wait for the McCain ad with a picture of Kwame and a big old boner-like building in the background. Go get ’em Johnny!

#16 – Do not denigrate Canadians. My grandfather was Canadian in the Great War – he was RFC. And the Canadian army has already gained additional honor in this war, as it gained in wars past. PPCLI is an honorable unit, 2d Battalion has a PUC.
Probably posted already but there’s a sound bite floating around where Obama says something along the lines of “Kwame Kilpatrick will do ‘astounding things'”. I may be wrong on the exact wording so google it. But come on – the Messiah is right – Mr. Kilpatrick’s corruption is astounding. But not surprising. I realize the Messiah must be friends with sinners but the space under the bus is finite.
I’ll deningrate French Canadians until the cows come home. I’m sorry, any culture that keeps “french” as part of their name needs an ass whipping. And white flags are ignored during said ass whipping.
Sorry, I’m cranky tonight and the French in particular are pissing me off.
re: comment #27 Comment by Matt, Esq.
From your comments I surmise that you have never visited Canada. I have been there many times. Without fail, the citizens have been friendly and I felt like a welcome guest. This would include both Anglo and Francophone parts. I am a US citizen near the Detroit border and feel blessed to have such good neighbors. I also have not forgotten how Canada helped the US during the hostage crisis. I pray God keeps Canada glorious and free. Lest I forget, may God bless America!
C’mon, stop with all the sanctimonious hoo-ha about Canada. It’s like unto saying two brothers ought not to knee one another in the balls every now & then just for the giggles, fer crying out loud.
Matt, Esq.
I think you are referring to this video here on Youtube.
I’ve spent some of the best vacation times of my life in Canada. Northeastern Ontario to be exact. But since I’m from Michigan I guess that doesn’t count as I hardly left home according to #20. The language is similar to “Yooper”. :-)
I denounce my trollish self.
I think Kwame’s trip to the Windsor Ballet was worth it.
Ice Road Truckers.
‘Nuff said.
I have been through most of Eastern Canada (Quebec and east), and I have no problem with the people I have met there. They were almost unstintingly kind and helpful.
Nova Scotia is mind blowing. And I still am cofuzzled about “Magnetic Hill”, and why my car rolled uphill when I put it in “neutral”. Although I think the name might be trying to tell me something, I just refused to spend good money to find out why.
But the Canadian government has gone over the hill, and if you don’t believe that, just ask the people in B.C. and Alberta. How could a government be stupid enough to embrace the Kyoto protocols when they know there isn’t a chance in Hell of living up to it?
OOPS!
The Canadian people have been wonderful to me, but their government appears to be part of San Fran Nan and Hairy Reid’s families. Absolutely idiotic! Who are these people grandstanding for? It definitely ain’t the people or the interests of Canada…
But, hey! We’re gonna be right there soon enough, so I guess I should start kissing some totalitarian ass as soon as I can. “The individual is secondary to society’s needs”.
Whoever says that, I have only one thing to say.
Go fuck yourself!
I also like the Canucks, doc, and Kwame is not their fault.
B Moe: “Always picking on the Irish.”
Seriously off topic, but this reminds me of something at my first job. The regional boss out of Omaha was a “Tina Kilpatrick,” with a broad Midwest accent, with stories of how tough and smart she was, leading to visions of a statuesque red-head with freckles… She makes her first visist to the office and in comes a 4′ 10″ Korean woman — the suprises of overseas adoptions, I suppose.
Kwame is just another iteration of the “it’s not the act, it’s the cover-up” syndrome, where a politician replaces the embaressing for the illegal.
But no tears for Kwame — especially if, like Sharpe James, hegets off with a slap on the wrist.
I grew up close enough to Canada to make regular beer runs before my 21st, but the Canada of then and the Canada of now are not the same beast. When they get rid of their star chambers perhaps I will change my mind, but until then I wouldn’t set foot there.
You know what they call it when the mayor of Detroit goes to jail?

Clearly, Education Guy has not been educated on the joys of the Windsor Ballet.
alppuccino – Networking. Brilliant.
Apparently, things are getting worse for Kwame…
“Shortly after Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick wakes up in jail this morning — still reeling from becoming the first sitting mayor in Detroit’s 307-year history to spend a night behind bars — Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox is expected to charge him with felony assault.”

I personally have nothing against Canada, or, as I refer to it, “America Jr.”
Isn’t it obvious that Detroit is the reason Canadians insist on being different than the US?
