Predecessor to Shakespeare’s Globe Located [Dan Collins]

The Theatre, Shoreditch, where many of Shakespeare’s earlier efforts were first played. In all likelihood, Julius Caesar was the first played at The Globe.

Have you been to (or even heard of) the Blackfriar’s Playhouse in Staunton, Va. Dan? I’ve not been, but heard from an actor friend who worked there it’s a splendid thing to experience.

    Bad link, sorry. Try again.

  3. Dan Collins says:

No, I haven’t, Sdferr. I’d be interested to go.

  4. Sdferr says:

There’s a virtual tour of the space at the bottom of the Blackfriar’s page. Pretty cool.

    O calm, dishonourable, vile submission!
    Alla stoccata carries it away.

    Off topic pretty much, sorry.

Since this is a post about a theatre and moving sidewise, theater in general, I want to turn to political theater, namely what’s going on in DC with the Republican Uprising on the floor of the House.

Initially taken as a “stunt” I didn’t think it would last long, nor gain much national attention even. Today though, it’s beginning to look like something unusual is happening. The stunt aspect of the protest is being left behind, the news of it is beginning to get out, support for the effort is building, coverage seems to grow and in growing will likely feed back to further growth. These people seem serious, not stunty. If they are serious enough, they may just have something here.

I think it’s worth watching closely.

Now this is really OT, but Sdferr did mention going sideways, and this is about going sideways a few hundred miles.

The real reasons for T. Boone’s wind farm initiative is beginning to come out: he plans to use the same power line right-of-ways (aquired through eminent domain) to build a pipeline for water that he contols in the Ogalala aquifer to the D/Ft.W metroplex.

    Sdferr,
I had hoped that the “stunt” stigma would wear off, because the individuals involved are truly the baseline conservative heart of the House and they would not have done this as pure political theatre. Those that decry this as a stunt are just as out of touch as Nancy “I’m trying to save the planet” Pelosi and the no-drill, no-where Democrats she commands.

I talked to Chris Shays a couple of days ago, and he was headed back to DC for this very reason. He doesn’t want to drill ANWR yet (“Eisenhower left it a wilderness in perpetuity” – Hah!), but even my liberal Republican Senator is coming around.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are mouth breathers, and, if they keep it up, are going to destroy all the advantage that the Republicans have gift wrapped and handed to them.

I don’t know whether to throw jeers or kisses at them.

Dan and Sdferr, Blackfriars in Staunton is indeed a great place. And there are some excellent watering holes in the area, too.

BTW, if you pronounce the town’s name “Staahhnton” instead of “Staaaanton”, you’re liable to be asked, “Ya’ll ain’t from around here, are ya’ll?”

  12. Sdferr says:

Slackjawedyokel, d’jew ever go out to the ‘Taylor and Boody’ tracker action organ factory outside town at Hebron? Another fine thing Staunton has on offer, should it find your interest. I lived near Staunton off and on while working in vicinity and visiting over the years, but that was all before the theater was built.

My wife and her relatives have deep roots in Virginia. I was only allowed to mispronounce Staunton once.

They’re not even from that part of Virginia.
