It has been almost a month since I last reminded folks that to help you get your weekend started, you can access hours of streaming music  the good, the bad and the ugly  via the page I have set up for my other web gig, via the fantastic Hype Machine. You can access tracks individually, or let them play through as a jukebox.  The new additions for this Friday are mostly mainstream things, including Tom Petty, The Kinks, the Steve Miller Band, and one of my all-time favorite Led Zeppelin tracks. But there is also an infectious track from the obscure, defunct Green, Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper, Liz Phair, the Hold Steady, the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, a couple of fun covers and more.
P.S.: The Beach Boys track may not work properly, depending on your system and connection, in which case you can just hit the forward button.
The Hold Steady?! You are much cooler than I thought, Karl.
Lisa,
Then you should definitely check out my other gig by clicking on my name for this comment. It’s loads of “indie,” gossip and animal stories.
I’ve seen the Hold Steady at least twice (iirc) and highly recommend it.
Commodore Elvis!!
that cracks me up every time.
The sailing Elvis!
Oddly enough, I have seen Mojo naked. The man had no more modesty backstage that he did onstage.
Damn Karl I really want to see them play. You are the third person who has said they were fucking great live.
Gossip and indie music? That is the glue that holds the world together – people may disagree on presidential candidates but we can come together on Brangelina and Deathcab for Cutie.
Let me get over there and check it out.
Damn you Karl, I just bought two Sharon Jones CD’s. No Panera Bread for a couple of weeks!
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are are also killer live (despite a bit too much politics).
I have a bunch of friends who love the Hold Steadies, I haven’t managed to catch them yet. I am also hearing great things about these dudes http://www.myspace.com/jroddy who I think are from your neck of the woods, Lisa.
I missed the HS last weekend, but saw them last on Halloween (which should turn up on DVD sometime). They came out to the theme from “The Good, The Bad & the Ugly,” all dressed like Clint, with those brown cigs and fake mustasches (except Franz, who has a real one). Went with a college friend who had not seen them, and who called it an orgy of singing, shouting and finger-pointing.
Extremely cool. Our musical tastes coincide to a frightening degree. You need to make this a regular feature of PW.
Ah, Mojo.
Don Henley Must Die. Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant With My Two-headed Love Child. And….ELVIS!!! Nice pull, Karl.
