Pre-Emptive Caving by Spain [Dan Collins]

They caved after the Madrid bombings, so I guess this was the next step.

This is what Baracky and his monkey god call a Good Day.

  2. Lisa says:

Someone alert Charlton Heston: It has begun.

  3. Sparky says:

    Bark! Barkbarkbarkbark! Rrrrrr…

    (Translation: Hey! What about dogs?)

  4. Karl says:

“At press time, Cornelius was unavailable for comment.”

  5. BJTex says:

Lisa: Lol, those damn dirty apes!

Spain may be better known abroad for bull-fighting than animal rights but the new measures are the latest move turning once-conservative Spain into a liberal trailblazer.

A trail blazed with ape shit, apparantly.

  6. Roboc says:

No more monkeying around in Spain.

  7. Karl says:

Yet Spain will still allow apes to be detained in zoos.

    GITMOPHOBES!!!

  8. Ouroboros says:

    Loaded question of the day;

Q: So why are Apes deserving of more rights than a Dolphin, or a Whale.. or a Spotted Owl?

A: They’re not.. They all deserve the same rights as humans.. but , of course, more rights than unborn humans..

  9. TheGeezer says:

    LOL!!!

By the by, the noted philosopher Peter Singer is involved. Didn’t he advocate post-partum abortion, maybe up until age three?

  10. Rob Crawford says:

Will they receive the right to vote? To enter into contracts? Will they receive welfare payments?

Will they be considered full citizens — not just of Spain, but of the EU?

Or is this just a load of crap to be tossed around as needed?

  11. Ouroboros says:

“Keeping an estimated 315 apes in Spanish zoos will not be illegal, but supporters of the bill say conditions will need to improve drastically in 70 percent of establishments to comply with the new law.”

I take it this means the Apes will be given Internet Access, TV, girlie mags, pizza at least once a week and presumably Korans and prayer mats if they request them….

Do they get court appointed lawyers to handle their Habeas Corpus petitions as well?

I think it’s actually referred to as the 39th trimester! I could be wrong, ladies?

  13. FreakyBoy says:

    What is the law?

  14. FreakyBoy says:

    Ape must not kill Ape!

  15. Karl says:

Not to eat human flesh, but beyond that, it’s pretty wide open.

  16. Sdferr says:

It is entirely appropriate to recognize that the great apes have an inherent right to life, freedom and not to be subject to torture. This is a good thing to do. I hope it will be done here in the US soon as well.

  17. Mikey NTH says:

Yet pestering bulls is still permitted.

  18. happyfeet says:

I didn’t know we had rampant ape torture here in the states. I can see how this might be a problem in Spain.

  19. FreakyBoy says:

This all sounds fine and dandy until a family of gibbons buys the house next to you and ruins your property value.

  20. dicentra says:

Oh, I’m all over this. I published a paper once about El palacio de los monos, a play by Spaniard Luis Riaza.

Unfortunately, I remember almost nothing about either the play or the paper that I wrote. It’s not online, and I’m pretty sure it was a load.

It was a crummy play, besides. I think it got produced maybe once.

    Simian Justice!

  22. sashal says:

I was hoping you were talking about soccer results

  23. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Don’t forget that Ricardo Montalban played the race-traitor Armando in Escape from the Planet of the Apes.

And he’s — wait for it — Spanish! (well, technically, Mexican. Same thing, right?) It’s all happening, just as the Holy Pentalogy predicted!

Seriously, I do think that apes should have the right to be treated better than, say, cockroaches or even mice. I think they’re close to smart enough to suffer like we do, is all I’m sayin’.

  24. Dan Collins says:

I hope they’re not still using real Corinthian leather.

  25. Karl says:

    Dan,

The “Fuck Obama” spammer is at “O! Bhama! They’re STILL After His Lucky Charms! [Dan Collins]”

  26. Karl says:

    No prob.

  27. Historically speaking, I think that it was Caligula who inducted his favorite horse to the Consulship of Rome. How long until a Socialist Monkey takes the rotating presidency of the EU?

  28. Aldo says:

McCain should have thought of this for his batteryprize.

  29. Aldo says:

Back on topic: kill the chicken, let the monkey watch.

  30. kelly says:

Speaking of simians, anybody recall the story about four years ago when some chimps escaped from a zoo, attacked some hapless guy and ripped his nuts off?

Think of it as a cautionary metaphor.

  31. The Lost Dog says:

    HOLY SHIT!

But at least it’s comforting to know that America is not the only country shooting down the trail into insanity.

  32. The Lost Dog says:

“I take it this means the Apes will be given Internet Access, TV, girlie mags, pizza at least once a week and presumably Korans and prayer mats if they request them.”

    Didn’t you mean “Koreans”?

  33. bergerbilder says:

What about the apes that aren’t so great? Where do you draw the line?

  34. lee says:

    I don’t know guys, I see a certain…symmetry.

American courts give terrorists citizen rights,

Spanish Parliament gives apes human rights…

You see where tis is going, right?

  35. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

“What about the apes that aren’t so great? Where do you draw the line?”

    – Which of course brings into question any given apes:

    AUTHENTICITY !11!!eleventyone111!!!

  36. PalmettoTiger says:

“Spanish parliament to extend rights to apes:
    Women, Children, Minorities Hardest Hit.”

    FIXED the headline.
