Gerry Geisel writes to forward this article on priorities in the Obama campaign:
Police officers in Portland, Oregon, are still waiting for an apology from Barack Obama after campaign staffers of his recent rally in Portland, Oregon, setup porta potties directly on top of the Portland Police Memorial, which honors the agency’s 25 fallen police officers.
The Obama rally drew a crowd of over 75,000 people.
Officer Thomas Brennan, who was working overtime at the rally, took a picture of the offending toilets, with the American flag still at half mast because of Police Officers Memorial Day, directly behind them. The local law enforcement memorial service had been held at the site only five days earlier.
Despite a large amount of open areas in the vicinity, the campaign staffers claimed the toilets were placed on the memorial for safety reasons to accommodate wheelchair access.
The Obama campaign has not responded to requests for an apology.
Want to express your outrage and ask for an apology? Contact Senator Obama here.
Flight 43 Crescent. My values trump yours, because I am enlightened. How do I know? Mine are more exotic.
I sincerely doubt Barack Obama or any of the higher ups in his campaign actually tend to pressing questions of Port-o-pottie placement.
Dan, Dan, Dan, this is the O-man’s big night. I’d expect you’re big enough to offer a token congratulatory nod to the O!-man.
Brother can you spare some Change? (I’m just phrase spraying at this point)
– Oh hell Dan, who knows. Maybe 75,000 people celebrating Obama in front of a line of shitters is somehow prophetic.
thor
so Barry doesn’t take responsibility for his staffers? My, how spiffy of him.
Now Darleen, you know they’ve been doing crap all through the campaign that O! didn’t agree with and getting themselves fired. we should start a pool on who takes the fall for this one.
CHANGE! my staff every few months.
BECAUSE OF THE JUDGMENT TO LEAD!!!
sorry, just caught the rerun of his speech.
Not only can Obama put butts in the seats, he can make ’em wiggle.
– Yeh, you know, now that I think about it, that has a certain symbolic symmetry.
– Shitters and Obama, separated by 75,000 undulating, adulating morons. “squeals on wheels”, “holes we can really relieve in”, “We go for change”, brought to you by PortaPotty corp, home of the one O’ler!.
On the whole, this story will likely lead to more people in Portland knowing about the very existence of the memorial. As for its political value: it’s more serious than a boxers or briefs question, I guess. But really, am I to believe that there wasn’t a single cop around as the toilets were placed? Not a single cop complained before the rally? Were concerns voiced? To ask for an apology from Obama, when the decision was most likely made by some guy who spent the day before taking the toilets from a street fair and the day after putting them up at a racetrack, is a bit absurd. Plus, it’s a little on the late side, isn’t it?
This story is dated 12 days after the rally, and it’s now over two weeks later, so I doubt there will be anything Obama could say that would assuage the commenters on that site. Especially those who make false claims that he refuses to be swear on a Bible. Would it be politically prudent to do so? Maybe, but it be more likely to resurrect this dead story.
In the meantime, I have to ask why McCain hasn’t shown up in Tucson to honor 21-year military veteran and police officer killed in the line of duty Eric Hite. His refusal to stand alongside our community in this time of loss is absolutely in need of an apology. That he hasn’t done so is an outrage to all of us in the law enforcement community (and I include myself in the loosest of loose senses.) That he hasn’t apologized for this is a clear sign that he would personally piddle on a half-staff American flag right in front of the Tucson Police Department’s downtown headquarters (standing atop a ladder, of course, as McCain is not that tall to begin with.) He would then wipe his shriveled member using said flag, descend the ladder, and then–without using soap–shake a number of degenerates’ hands and handle infants who would quite possibly require medical attention that would not be covered by his healthcare proposals. And I bet his staff wouldn’t be very accomodating toward my demands. They’d probably say something rude.
Damn, Dan. Blaming Obama for a porta potty contractor’s bad siting is a little lame. Anyway, I think Obama offering an economic stimulus package for municipal police depts that had got a huge cut from the Bush Administration after Clinton’s ‘infrastructure’ taxes benefits thousands of police depts across the ‘fruited plain’. Jeffes of Police are yearning for a sympathetic Democrat President. I imagine so will the police unions.
“P and P” (transportable toilets) contractor is our local supplier. Cute initials! I admire those guys who service the plastic receptacles. Such stoicism, good humor (usually), service and loyalty is admirable.
“To put this in perspective, the difference between a Focus and an F-250 over five years is $60,000. The annual pretax income of a typical family in this country is also about $60,000. So choosing a F-250 over a Focus is like volunteering for a 20 percent pay cut. The relative resale values might cushion the blow a little, but not much.”
man, the cops and porta potty guys have more serious things to worry about. Maybe that 4 wd. Jeep’s gotta go from our local police dept?
Looks like this post touched a nerve.
Well, it’s not like ddave has any brain cells.
Anyway, I think Obama offering an economic stimulus package for municipal police depts that had got a huge cut from the Bush Administration after ClintM
How can anyone possibly think that giving money for police departments is in any possibly fucking way “economic stimulus”?
I got a great idea, how about an economic stimulus package aimed at redoing the teacher’s lounges in all the public schools? That would really get the economy humming!
I’ve got nothing against police – I really dig ’em (especially in uniform, but I don’t think this is the proper place to discuss that) – but investing in departments don’t stimulate anything.
I’m thinking of buying a Focus, and going out for a couple of yards of mulch. What could go wrong?
well, carin it did seem to work during the ’90s….about the only period of serious income growth for average folks since Nixon. Clinton pushed through tax increases for ‘infrastructure’ improvements early in his first term….and boom…the economy took off. (it’s called Keynesian economics and it worked during WW2 and in the ’50s afterwards). Deficit spending as in Carter’s, Reagan’s, and Bush’s regimes isn’t the same thing…you have to spend it on ‘focused’ improvements….and the capital is increased jobs, increased security, etc. and then increased revenue with more jobs…. not the same as given tax breaks for doctors to buy Hummers)
“Looks like this post touched a nerve.” not really, just enjoying the Obama celebration and early morning sleeplessness. Dan Collins and crew are great entertainers. Writers like Obama and James Webb…n’ even McCain if he didn’t need a ghostwriter (the rumor anyway….note McCain wrote a blurb endorsing Webb’s book…and I am thinking they might have to compete electorially…some endorsement? hah? Webb would be my choice for v.p. )
Does thor or anyone think Obama would put Hillary on the ticket after the blackmailing she’s seemingly trying to pull?
how about an old Ford Escort wagon for 1500. good reviews and the price is right.
and carin…what the fuck was Detroit thinking???
slart, have the mulch delivered. It’s easier that way. Feed the poor guy with the truck. Buying a truck for non-professional use is just stupid.
Dude, if you’re in the construction business, then you’re the one benefiting from government construction efforts. Dave’s just a rent-seeker. He calls it “economic stimulus” because it means a cushy job with “oversight” from public-sector union knobs who think asking someone to work hard or well is “oppressive”.
The rest of us, who watch the fruits of our labor siphoned off under threat of criminal punishment, don’t quite have that rosy a view of government spending.
and carin…what the fuck was Detroit thinking???
What do you mean? About making SUV and trucks? Market forces, dude. Market forces.
If I recall, everyone and his brother wanted one for a while there. I never wanted one, because gas milage has always meant something to me. Because I’m CHEAP.
Michigan’s real problem? Right to Work. Unfavorable taxes.
The government is not here to help regarding the economy. It can only get in the way.
I hope that Baracky “whose middle name must never be spoken lest you be called a racist” Obama selects Jim “I turn the young boy upside down and placed his crank in my mouth” Webb as his running mate.
If my kid’s dick was on fire, I might do the same, JD.
Oh, jeez, Collins!! Death by cooties!!!
It’s sad when a working class man can’t afford a fire extinguisher to put out the fire on his child’s cock. This is not the America I know.
Obama ’08 – Fire extinguishers for cock fires.
I really want Baracky to pick Senor turn upside down and inset crank in mouth Senator.
slart, have the mulch delivered. It’s easier that way. Feed the poor guy with the truck. Buying a truck for non-professional use is just stupid.
Or, even better, I could borrow the truck from someone who’s bought it for a specific need. That way, I do all the work myself and only have to pay for gasoline. If I have to pay a couple hundred bucks for a guy to get me mulch, I go without.
Or, best of all, we get our tree trimmed, and have the tree-surgeon outfit dump their entire load in my driveway. Fifteen yards, at least. Took me nearly three weekends to get wheelbarrowed around the yard. I could have done it faster, but it’s ninety-five fuckind degrees, here, and 95% humidity. Slows you down a bit.
Besides, there are no poor guys with trucks in Orlando that advertise in the Yellow Pages.
JD, didn’t you use that same line on another thread? Frankly I don’t get it. I guess Jim Webb is short or something. So you want to ‘crank’ him?
Gosh, Dan. Does the “Piss Poor” title means you have to light your kid’s weaners up? With their Happy Meal’s diet and the lighter fluid, U might get a call from a social worker and a cop soon. If you’re going to take your kids out to junk food at least do locally owned: Als French Frys …’course my teenager’s probably fatter than yours…but it’s the Mac Pro’s fault.
Slart, good job. Damn I moved five yards of topsoil into the raised beds with the wheel barrel too. She had it delivered though.
I still want a truck, but I wished “Detroit” would think about fuel economy for a change. I loved my ol Toyota ‘hilux’ types but they rusted out so fast (‘course I paid a little cash for ‘way’ used ones)
And a Van. but find one that gets closer to 30 mpg instead of the usual 15 mpg? That’s why I ask Caron wtf? “Detroit”? Don’t just blame the customer, they could have been a little more farsighted and they design these things, we don’t. Ceo Wagoneer didn’t miss a beat. Laid off a whole slew of American/Canadian workers and is off shoreing all the li’l economy vehicles and left a big hole in the economy (his parachute will come out just fine though with all the downsizing..)
dave, Ford, Toyota, VW and a slew of other folks have been making the trucks you describe for decades, you see them all over Europe and Asia. They could easily import them here if there was a market for them. You will probably start seeing them soon. Because people are ready to start buying them now.
b moe, I heard that but I think they are blocked from import as the safety of the lighter vehicles is questioned by the US govt. Maybe individuals can import them but I believe dealers can’t.
the safety of the lighter vehicles is questioned by the US govt.
You don’t say? Think about that for a little bit dave, and see if you can figure out why blaming automakers might be problematic.
Safety, schmafety. The real issue is the 25-percent tariff the US imposes on imported trucks, which has somehow managed to survive for 45 years. (Which is why your Japanese trucks tend to be manufactured in the US.) NAFTA eliminated the tariff on trucks built in Canada and Mexico.
Feel free to Google “chicken tax.” (The tariff was enacted in response to, of all things, a duty imposed by Europe on American chicken exports.)
yah, all that talk about “free trade” by the big conservatives in govt. is a bunch of hooey. howabout the sugar lobby? corn lobby? etc?
I think it’s a little of both. Like why there aren’t Fiats in USA either. couldn’t pass Federal safety tests…but they’re once Yugos here so maybe it is the tariff (?).
I’d block tyson frozen chickens if I was an Euro too. taste that nasty stuff?
datadave – How do you manage to tie your shoes without assistance?
JD what do you do for a living? Produce anything? I am beginning to wonder if you even have a ‘job’.
anyway, answer on another thread…there are so many and I might miss the response here.
I work for an evil big corporation that provides profits for our shareholders, tens of thousands of jobs, and quality financial services for oue customers, for almost two hundred years.
