Progg Media respects Barack Obama’s authoritah [Karl]

Progressive Media USA – the David Brock-helmed group organized to be the main soft-money advertising vehicle for Democrats in the fall – is ditching its previously announced $40 million attack effort against John McCain,  after Barack Obama’s camp told supporters not to give money to independent expenditure groups.

That does not mean that McCain will not be attacked.  Rather, it means that such attacks will be coordinated through the DNC or Obama’s campaign infrastructure.

Open Left’s Chris Bowers wrote an important post last week about the way in which Obama’s campaign infrastructure was consolidating his power over the Democratic party.  However, a close reading of Bowers also lends itself to concluding that Obama’s campaign infrastructure is both independent from and likely an influence overarching the Democratic party if (as expected) he becomes the Democratic nominee.

The immediate capitulation of Brock’s Progg Media (which is likely indirectly tied to George Soros) is the first concrete sign of Obama’s increasing authoritah.  Those who were already inclined to see the Obama campaign as a cult of personality should take note.

    Interpol: Chavez Supports Terrorists
    by Adam Housley

Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) renewed his calls for the Administration to impose tough new sanctions on Venezuela today after Interpol, the international police agency, confirmed the validity of the contents of laptops and other documents containing information strongly tying Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and his allies to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), an internationally-recognized terrorist organization.

Interpol released its report early this afternoon on laptops, files and other documents that Colombian forces recovered after a raid on a FARC camp in Ecuador in which a top leader in the FARC, Raul Reyes, was killed. The laptops and documents contain solid evidence that Chavez and his closest advisors have cooperated and coordinated with the FARC and given them hundreds of millions of dollars, weapons, public support and safe passage and haven in Venezuela.

After further reflection I think Obama’s outrage at Bush’s appeasement remarks is a ploy to whip up the base. Remember that Obama gets a lot of his funding from small donors, and he is girding up to do battle with McCain now. It’s time to shake the money tree. What better way than to portray himself as the target of a nasty smear by the Bushitler?

  28. LiveFromFortLivingRoom says:

I agree Aldo, it also marginalizes Hillary as she can be portrayed as just a side show to the real battle between the evil ChimpyMcHaliburton and the Savior Obama.

    *sigh*

I’m just about ready to submit yet another word for retirement from the lexicon: “Fascist.” (and its various etymological forms)

When little bedwetter twats like elmer show up and fling it like his own simian feces, it has lost its meaning.

  30. LiveFromFortLivingRoom says:

Well as many people as you see on an average day getting called fascist you would think there would be a Fascist party and they would have already won the House and Senate.

  31. sashal says:

kelly, are you trying to appease elmer?

  32. kelly says:

Sure, sashal, if by “appease” you mean “mock.”

Actually more like Comandante Abimael Guzman of the Shining Path. Hey, he was a an academic with a sense of community organizing, who chose
a more uplifting view of politics. Note how Time’s capsule profile of Obama’s background in Hyde Park has an almost Soviet erasure of any ties to Ayers and Doehrn; even leaving out the
    Annenberg Challenge connection.

    – N:ail on the head. Exactly. The Dems in general, and O!’s camp in particular, are in complete knee-jerk disarray. I think Hilldegards trouncing of Obama in WV, coupked with the upcoming trouncing hes going to take in Kentucky, the whole “White voters” problem in fact, has shook them up far more than they want anyone to know.

    – They also know this is the worst possible approach to handling the Presidents barbs, but it helps quiet the talk about WV. They can tap dance all they want. Whats really got their panties in a twist is the fear that Hillery’s arguments will start a stampede among the remaining S-dels. They have good reason. The convention already shapes up to be the calamity of the year, hell the centuary. The more gravitas she collects, the more difficult and deep the mess becomes.

Who the hell is Kevin James? Before Douchebag linked to that Matthews piece, I’d never heard of him.

Don’t tell me — he’s like Hagee, one of those folks that no one’s heard of outside their region, but who becomes the left’s current poster child for the right?

  40. JD says:

I thought Kevin James was the King of Queens.

Hey, guys! With the California Supremes over-ruling 60% of that’s states citizens’ votes to bar gay marriage, GAY MARRIAGE IS BACK ON THE POLTIICAL FRONT, JUST IN TIME FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION!!!! Who cares if Obama is a terrorist-appeasing-black-theology-Marxist weasal when conservatives will drag their bodies through broken glass to prevent Obaman judge appointments!!! John McCain just won through liberal stupidity, which just goes to show that’s there’s always a good use for liberal stupidity and ignorance – if they call attention to it themselves.

What a great day for America. Even though the Republicans don’t deserve it.

  42. Gabriel Fry says:

“even more out of date than your blog”

You dirty knife-twister, you. I would argue that a party that can’t pass legislation even when all its members vote “aye” in unison is not in control of the Senate. The Congress needs surgery, and all the Democratic Party had to offer was a tourniquet. I’m not going to blame them for that. After all, they’re only Democrats.

  43. Rob Crawford says:

I would argue that a party that can’t pass legislation even when all its members vote “aye” in unison is not in control of the Senate.

So, basically, no one controls the Senate until they have 67 seats?

  44. Gabriel Fry says:

For practical purposes, in the current political climate, yes. The only other option would be to make every bill into a horrific flipper baby like the farm bill. You could get the votes that way too, I guess.
