Hill-Raiser Celebi Dumped by Campaign [Dan Collins]

Won’t Gleen(s) be relieved?

The Clinton campaign is no longer taking contributions from a Turkish American who financed a film that depicted an American Jew trading in Iraqi body parts.

Mehmet Celebi had been listed on the presidential campaign website of U.S. Sen. Hilalry Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as a “Hill-raiser,” someone who had raised more than $100,000 for her presidential bid. Celebi had co-produced “Valley of the Wolves: Iraq,” a 2006 film based on a popular Turkish TV series about a crack Turkish combat unit.

The film depicts a Jewish American doctor harvesting organs from prisoners.

“We were unaware of Mr. Celebi’s involvement in this film and we obviously do not agree with it,” Ann Lewis, a senior adviser to the campaign said Friday in response to a query from JTA. Lewis, who plays a lead role for the campaign in dealing with the Jewish community, added: “He is no longer raising money for this campaign.”

No word on whether they’ve already returned the money raised by Celebi.

…American doctor harvesting organs from prisoners.

Well, there goes that part of Hill’s Universal Health Care Plan.

  2. Good Lt. says:

I wonder what chapter of Gleen’s new sure-to-be-bestseller “The Toungebathing of the Democrat Party Great American Hypocrites” this most recent Clinton scandal will be listed uynder. Can’t wait to read his take on it.

That, and the no-doubt forthcoming Tony Rezko chapter. That chapter should be a doozy.

  3. Jeff G. says:

    Gary Busey wept.

  4. layerguy says:

I can confirm that the campaign has not returned the money raised by Celebi.

    And won’t.

  5. ccoffer says:

Everybody knows its dissident Chinamen teh Joos sell on the open market. Not Arabs. Geez. Get with the program.

  6. cynn says:

This just gets uglier. I think we are headed to a contentious, brokered convention and Obama won’t know what hit him.

  7. cynn says:

Oh, and McCain looked OK on 60 minutes, but is the left side of his face oddly swollen?

  8. Jeffersonian says:

I’m a little surprised by this. I thought the “Jews are stealing Muslim organs/draining Muslim blood for matzoh” guys would be going foursquare for B. Hussein Obama.

Well, don’t be fooled by his ridiculous Terry Gilliam-character name.

What Obama thinks about The Jewish Question is unclear, because he probably doesn’t think anything about it — except that at least two huge blocs of his supporters talk as though they hate Jews, so he better stay vague to avoid pissing them off. And so he does.

But Hillary has made her position very clear.

Only if you never noticed it before.

  11. datadave says:

tell us about it. McCain’s said to have skin cancer several times…is it skin cancer or wounds from ‘nam? Cartoonists will be using that lump probably for awhile..

AS BEN STEIN is suggesting the same ideas I have: Tax Policies

there you go. one of america’s smartest economic conservatives saying the same stuff I’ve been: tax the rich in order to save america.

you flakes are so out of touch with reality. You’re protected by govt. subsidies if you are military veteren but the rest of us have to bust ass to live and were seeing the picture of corrupt right wing policies coming home to roost in a big way. But still the Democrats are playing to the upper class as are the Republicans. So far it’s been an elite affair and thus McCain will probably get it unless Obama gets his head out and realize that economic war against the middle class needs hard answers .. .not vague feeling good platitudes…while Clinton’s tax returns will show what economic class she’s protecting.

Kudos to Ben for being intellectually honest and explaining to the stupid Republicans what’s needed to save America. Democrats seem to not read much anymore being on the web so much// try reading the Daily kos or huffington…using more bandwidth in a minute than most conservative ones in a week.

  12. Pablo says:

Gee dave, I’m a veteran and I’m not being protected by any govt subsidies, nor do I have anything roosting on my home. Honest, I just checked. No roosting.

  13. Pablo says:

Oh, and if you’re a Ben Stein fan, you should go over to http://www.mentalfloss.com and read the piece he has up there. He doesn’t seem to think America needs saving.

  14. B Moe says:

Well that certainly explains a lot.

    DD:

I’ve heard both Barracky and Hillary spout this little nugget. I understand the rhetorical appeal being employed: give as many people as possible–“middle class”–an opportunity to feel OPPRESSED in order to garner their votes. But, in the interest of intellectual honesty, exactly what do you and your candidates mean by “middle class”?

My wife and I have a wonderful home, great kids, and many other blessings. We both work two jobs, though, and somehow missed out on the economic stimulus package because we make too much money.

My great fear is that if either of the Dems is elected, I will be asked to pay for even more “economic stimulus” for the middle class.

  16. Donald says:

Yeah Cowboy, well your carbon footprint is too big, so shut up and pay.

  17. Rob Crawford says:

tax the rich in order to save america.

    Uh-huh. Sure…

Stein’s apparently gone off the rails recently. He’s gone militant IDer, and now he’s missing the spending part of the federal budget question.

  18. Cowboy says:

You know what they say about men with big carbon footbprints…

  19. Cowboy says:

Seriously, ever since I paid this year’s taxes, I have been thinking about this notion on the middle class, and specificaly the way it is defined–or not–by Hillary and Barak. It has become so vague, even in terms of what it means financially. How much money do you earn if you are of the “middle class”?

Perhaps a better way of categorizing Americans economically would be by indicating if they are “working class” or “non-working class.” I find I have much in common with someone who works for his $20,000/year or someone else who works hard for her $300,000/year. However, people who don’t work at all–poor or rich–feed, one way or the other, off my hard work.

  20. JD says:

Isn’t the best economic stimulus plan for the middle class that the government get out of their way and let them have the opportunity to work to become part of the upper middle class, and beyond?

Rob – The whole tax the rich to save the country is just like the tax the hell out of the petroleum companies in order to decrease the cost of gas. That idea is working out really well.

  21. Cowboy says:

…uh, that’s “notion of,” on course.

  22. JD says:

Cowboy – It depends on the topic as to how they define the rich. When discussing some topics, the wealthy are $150K+, $250K+, etc … other times, they use 80K+. It just depends on who they are pandering to on that date.

  23. Cowboy says:

    JD:

You’re absolutely right. When the accountant told me that the extra work I did last summer actually cost more in taxes than I earned, I felt…I don’t know…over-redistributed, I guess.

  24. JD says:

Cowboy – I pay more in property taxes than some people make in a year, yet by not stretch of the imagination are we rich. We have a dual income home, and we both do pretty well, but wealth is something that we only aspire to at this point in time.

  25. Cowboy says:

    …and under-stimulused.

Sounds like a great title for a postmodern country song. Someone get Willie on the phone.

Dunno. I think They Might Be Giants did that one with “Alienation’s for the Rich (and I’m Feeling Poorer Everyday)”.

  28. RTO Trainer says:

I don’t know where Stein got his figures from. Mine are from the Census bureau and the Congressional Budget Office (all adjusted to 2006 dollars). They say that federal receipts in 2000 were $2.03tn. There were tax cuts in 2001 and reciepts of $1.99tn. Yep, that’s down, slightly. In 2002, they were $1.85tn and $1.78tn in 2003 and a second round of cuts. Then in 2004, $1.88tn and 2005, $2.15tn.

So he says 6 years to return to the high point, and I see 4. That 2001 decline can’t be counted, the tax cuts had just been enacted and hadn’t taken effect yet. 2007 receipts? $2.54tn. I can’t see whre we lost anything. In fact, receitps are growing at an average of $200bn per year since 2004, and were only growing (while they were growing; 1992-2000) at $120bn pre-tax cuts.
