Gawker reports that the New York Times will cut 100 newsroom positions by year’s end. Executive editor Bill Keller was quick to remind everyone that the NYT will still have 150 more news staffers than any other newspaper. This will be more than enough reporters to falsely impugn John McCain’s fidelity and citizenship, get things wrong about Hillary Clinton in a piece about the media’s crush on Barack Obama, and tout the great social achievements of Fidel Castro, while still being more clueless about world events than US magazine.
At least this will be the case until the investors’ revolt succeeds. Then Keller might have to account for his miserable failures.
The gray lady is taking on a lot of water. Those rats you see swimming away? Ignore them.
Not really a stellar brand anymore. And, ugh, about.com. That’s so pitiful. But there’s a huge and really shocking story about how much audience the New York Times has lost – as opposed to circ decline – and I’m not sure why no one has reported on that. Not that I’ve seen anyway.
I don’t think many will weep if NYT will close it’s operation completely.
After all I can get my restaurant reviews and reservations at Open Table, and movie news at Rotten Tomatoes
Ann Althouse would weep I think. Her new pictures look fabulous, don’t they?
Well, she’s looking less like a Smurf.
Which ones, in the shoe store ?
Or discussing breats on Clinton supporter?
No, she has this great haircut now. Sort of looking like a sardonic, cosmopolitan Paula Deen. Ok maybe it’s just me.
So I guess the NYT was just not able to steal enough profit right off the backs of its noble workers?
I’m getting all misty over here. And hot. Especially since the salvation plan includes selling the Boston Globe. I wonder if Jack Welch is still interested.
WWDD?
What will Dowd Do? You people are totally insensitive. Jackie Paisley whatsherface has the quality woman looking for a guy role sewn up. What will Dowd do?
