Dems 2008: NAACP head Julian Bond weighs in on FL & MI [Karl]

No justice, no peace in the Democratic nomination battles:

In a Feb. 8 letter to DNC Chairman Howard Dean, NAACP chairman Julian Bond expressed “great concern at the prospect that million of voters in Michigan and Florida could ultimately have their votes completely discounted.” Refusing to seat the states’ delegations could remind voters of the “sordid history of racially discriminatory primaries,” he said.

The Associated Press and the Politico missed Bond’s assessment of the campaign at the beginning of the month:

WW: What kind of chances do you see for presidential hopeful Barack Obama?

I really don’t know. I think it’s fairly evident that Hillary Clinton is the frontrunner among the Democrats. She’s got a tremendous advantage in name recognition. And even though Obama’s been on the cover of many magazines and the front page of many, many stories, she has been a public figure for a long time and her husband is a person of great public recognition in the country. And that is what’s leading her into first place right now. The question is can he catch up? And I just don’t know.

According to Scripps-Howard columnist Bill Maxwell, Bond has “supported Hillary Clinton’s run for the White House from the beginning.”

I could not find any concrete evidence to support or refute Maxwell on this point.  Perhaps someone will commit an act of journalism and ask Bond about it.

A 3-egg omelette reminds Bond of racism. And yet, Al Sharpton doesn’t. Shaddap, Julian.

  2. Pablo says:

Oh, and quit hating on Brother Obama too.

“It struck me as making the voters, including minority voters in Florida particularly, victims of the Republican legislature in Florida. I wanted to get Chairman Dean to find some way to rectify the situation,” Bond said.

Florida and Michigan voters disenfranchised. Women and minorities hardest hit.

How are Dem minority voters in Florida victims of the Republican legislature in relation to this issue?

I don’t know which way Bond swings, but seating the delegates clearly serves Hillary only – not the voters in those two states. How hard are they going to push this? I’m gonna start brushing-up on my “Selected not elected” sloganeering. How can Bond not believe that (black) voters who wished to vote for Obama were disenfranchised?

  4. Carin says:

And, disenfranchised not by white Rethuglians, but their own latte liberals?

Seems obvious to me that Bond has taken the name of his organization completely to heart. When you run an organization that’s purpose is the advancement of colored people, and one (in your mind) is in danger of becoming POTUS, your greatest fear is hearing the words “Total and complete advancement! Nice job. Now pack your shit.”

  6. Ken says:

Bond is as much a part of the Hillary machine as Bill is. You just know that Hillary’s camp has promised some juicy offerings to Bond if he supports her. Obama is the anti-system-establishment guy who does not kowtow to the Hillarys, Bonds, Deans, Sharptons et al and they will all work against him. Look at Ed Rendell and his threat of racist whitey democrats in PA who won’t vote for Obama because he is black. Expect more and more of this, and yet Obama is killing them.

Julian says Obama is a media creation and that’s not fair set against experience. So they do know.

I am predictable. I’m predicting recession, too. While I’m on a roll,
the sun will rise in the East tomorrow.

    McCain lite

This is great. Bond steps up to do the job that Blowjob Bill was told not to do anymore, because he was hurting the campaign.

    “While I’m on a roll,”

    Should be “while I’m a troll…”

  19. Carin says:

Well, Cleo, it wasn’t on topic (typical behavior of yours) and that the media is now turning on McCain (after putting him in the most positive light it could for months) is not really news. OMG, he’s OLD! We can’t have that. We didn’t even THINK of that before while we were ignoring Fred and Rudy ….

  20. Pablo says:

    John McCain is old?

    Huh. I had no idea.

  21. Carin says:

And, Pablo – you know what happens to old people? They get sick and die. I swear. I had a grandma, and that’s what happened to her.

Ok, I give up. That first comment gave me a “bad reply from server”- and the double post before didn’t have anything to do with me. I BLAME GLOBAL WARMING.

You forgot HALLIBURTON! and THE CHIMPEROR IN CHIEF himself.

  25. Semanticleo says:

“We didn’t even THINK of that”

Just thought you might want to prepare for the succession (while you
    prepare for the recession.)

  26. Carin says:

No, you’re right. We’d better not vote for him. He’s too old.

  27. JD says:

People like kkkleo seem hell-bent on making me support McCain.

    And Kyoto. But not Blackwater.

Just thought you might want to prepare for the succession (while you
    prepare for the recession.)

While Semi-conscious continues his regression, which might lead to detention with bright white, padded suspension.

  29. Kind of funny the NAACP didn’t bring up how Michigan’s Republican voters are being disenfrachaised because only half the delegetes get to be seated.

  30. B Moe says:

Any thoughts on the topic, cleo? Is it time for blacks in MI and FL to read them some Flannery O’Connor? Only substitute the DNC for Jesus?
