The ignorance really is appalling:
Britons are losing their grip on reality, according to a poll out Monday which showed that nearly a quarter think Winston Churchill was a myth while the majority reckon Sherlock Holmes was real.
The survey found that 47 percent thought the 12th century English king Richard the Lionheart was a myth.
And 23 percent thought World War II prime minister Churchill was made up. The same percentage thought Crimean War nurse Florence Nightingale did not actually exist.
1066 and all that.
And these cultured and educated Brits are typical of our European ‘betters’, whom the leftards would have America emulate in oh so many ways.
Interesting…
Well!
Did they ask about Andrew Sullivan?
No. But then they didn’t ask about Ellers McEllerson, either.
You missed the part in the survey where 99.97% of them thought George W. Bush “a dumbass”. /humour
…when, I wonder, is someone in Parliament or the Crown going to actually respond intelligently to this …this …hell, I’m not even sure what to call it.
You know all those “dumb Americans” jokes? Payback’s a bitch, ain’t it?
Merovign, this is the sort of schadenfreude that I could happily forgo.
Yeah, but they all have passports while most Americans do not. That way they can visit Atlantis. And Middle Earth. Meanwhile us Americans can drive 3000 miles and never hit a border.
Do you think all the Muslims living there are all that interested in English history?
“Giants stun Patriots for stunning win in Super Bowl XLII”
In the eloquent words of my eldest son, “Do you believe this shit?”
What? You mean to say that their socialist educational experiments aren’t going well either? Cor Blimey!
Isn’t anyone going to question the methodolgy of this poll, and how the questions were phrased?
I question the methodolgy of this poll, and how the questions were phrased.
This may say much about the British educational system. It seems that they do not pay much attention to their history. Or, if the government is, the normal British citizens obviously aren’t. This is not to generalize though. We should know more about the samples from which the survey was conducted to be able to conclude what this survey says about the Brits.
Either way, I think the results are hilarious! Poor Sir Winston Churchill.
DC: This is the sort of schadenfreude that I could happily forgo.
gP: Likewise.
RO: Exactly what part of “fire cannot melt steel” don’t you morons get?
“Do you believe this shit?â€Â
I had the same reaction when the halftime show wasn’t the USMC Marching Band cranking out Semper Fidelis as they spelled out “BITE ME NBC” on the field.
In light of NBC’s shoddy treatment of them as the “Tournament of Roses” broadcast closed.
Just as the band was marching onto screen, NBC rolled the closing credits. At least we’ll get to hear them. Nope. Up came . Canned.
BECAUSE THEY’RE MY BOYS !!!
Stupid Colonists.
That should read:
“Do you believe this shit?â€Â

Is datadave English?
As a second language, possibly. God help him if it’s his first.
It seems the some Brits today do not care much to their history. I find the survey result funny, though. Winston Churchill, a myth? Really hilarious.
