Best Puppyblender [Dan Collins]

according to Glenn Reynolds.  And he ought to know.

Asian Animal Protection Network on “Food Dogs”:

We see no difference between pig eating and dog eating. The degree of objection lies in the methods of rearing, transport and slaughter rather than in the choice of species.

The popularity of dog eating is currently increasing at a huge rate – it is evolving rapidly from its traditions as a cottage industry.   Now it is no longer a case of a few peasant farmers breeding a bitch once a year and taking the grown puppies to the market for a little extra pocket money.  Huge dog farms are being set up using modern scientific factory farming methods.

Dog-eating offends my sensibilities some, I have to say, but not nearly as much as, say, beating a girl to death because she refuses to wear the hijab. Your mileage may vary.

Eating dogs is bad karma. You’ll see.

    Tofoodle. Mmmmm.

I always thought they called those yappy little Mexican mutts “chilly dogs” because they’re always shivering.

We’d be upset if Hindus tried to stop us from eating cows.

And we ban whaling, even if the whale species in question is abundant. That seems to be “don’t kill the cute animal” rather than any real environmental concern.

  5. happyfeet says:

Eating cows is self-evidently not bad karma though.

It’s not a matter of “cute” so much as that dogs have a special place with humans among all domesticated animals. They have always been in the primary position as companion/protection so eating them smacks more of cannibalism than as legit food source.

  7. happyfeet says:

    Maybe we should copyright dogs.

We being us in the West. In much of Asia, not so much.

Darleen – while dogs may have a special place with humans, sheep have a very special place with the mens. they have, erm, as you say “always been in the primary [primary] position”. I ain’t no Greek er nuthin, but even after my bachelor party, I have not had any problem eating sheep.

  10. B Moe says:

I second Darleen. Dogs are to help you kill stuff to eat, and protect you while you eat the stuff. They are not to be eaten themselves. It is just wrong-headed.

    Actually, yes, even in Asia

  12. Enoch_Root says:

Darleen – I think “Asians” prefer to be referred to as “Orientals”… but not “slants” and definitely not “gooks” (unless they can’t understand you, in which case they just look confused and continue driving poorly).

  13. Enoch_Root says:

also, I just found out they don’t like being called “zipperheads”. Accidentally called a Korean guy that just now… he punched me and said it was a huge insult to confuse a Korean for a “Japper” (his words, not mine).

  14. MayBee says:

Sure, there’s history of some Chinese people having dogs as companions. But they haven’t had the widespread companionship place in the Chinese heart that they do for many in the West. Koreans and Chinese will eat dog. The Chinese grocery store chain Park N Shop (where I did my shopping) just pulled dog meat from it’s shelves in 2002 when animal rights activists protested them.

    Worked for Amundsen though.

hmm. well something like that anyway.

Hey. If you want to eat dogs, eat dogs. No skin off my back.

In fact, if you’re really hungry I’ll give you the address of my wife’s dogs.

  18. I’m bout ready to blend the whiny one here. had to put an e-collar on her so she would leave her foot alone and she’s been moping around ever since. she looks at us like, “Why are you abusing me?” “cause you’re not smart enough to leave your stupid foot alone and couldn’t keep the sock on it” it’s probably a good thing we don’t have children.

  19. The Lost Dog says:

“it’s probably a good thing we don’t have children.”

No. But it is probably a good thing that you don’t have other peoples children.

I know it’s good thing that I don’t. My kid could shoot me in the eye with his Red Ryder with few repercussions. But for some reason (and we all know that reason), I always want to kill some of my friend’s children on sight. They think I am kidding when I say: “I think you should just wrap them in duct tape and lock them in the closet”.

If I still knew where to find quaaludes, there would be more than a few friends of mine who would be very puzzled at their children’s marked change in behaviour.

Don’t forget Africa… they aren’t that fond of dogs as the classic western view would put it. Animal is animal, food is all… cuz speaking of our freindly eastern planetary cohabitants… seems they’ll eat just about anything that crawls, slithers, ooozes, or otherwise will fit in a wok, or other such cookery. Swine are the sniffers or the rare truffle, yet we relish their oh-so-porcine bellies, especially smoked to a tawny color and fried crisply (the skin of which, when fried, and coated in a spicy powder with a side of beer… is heaven on earth), no better accompanyment to the unborn/hatched young of fowl I cannot imagine. Let us all get off our little sensibilities.
I find the inbreeding and eugenics of the AKC dog shows much more alarming than raising them to eat… breeding a dog for looks over purpose is just wrong and unproductive to the breed, so say I anyway.
