First, there’s the haircut thing. Have to drive in to Denver for that. Then, my son has a party to go to. If Dan or Darleen would like to post here — or bring some stuff from the Pub over — I’m cool with that. If not, just use this thread as a repository of interesting links and discussions. Or, you know — a place to hide your stash. OUTLAW
November 2008
A day of Revelations!
First came the news that, despite what he told us while running for President, Barack Obama really did sit in his “spiritual advisor’s” church every Sunday imbibing Black Liberation Theology. For 20 years. Where he picked up absolutely nothing that will affect his worldview, we’re to believe. Unless he writes another autobiography — in which case all bets are off, and I expect to find that Barack found that experience
Another moment of unabashed OUTLAW pragmatism
My internist told me I’d best hold off on the peppers, but sorry, a turkey and avocado sandwich without sliced jalapenos is nothing more than a yuppie muffin with smoked bird meat. And I wouldn’t be caught dead with that in my saddle bag. No, I’ll take my chances with the flatulence, thanks.
“Despite Campaign Claim, Obama Told Paper He Attended Trinity Church ‘Every Week’”
Fred Lucas: President-elect Barack Obama said in 2004 – while he was a state legislator running for a U.S. Senate seat – that he attended services at Trinity United Church of Christ every week. This is in contrast to what Obama, as a presidential candidate, said this year after controversial anti-American remarks by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright surfaced. Obama then told news outlets that he did not attend the church
“Secret ballots for We, but not for Thee”
Amanda Carpenter, Townhall: We all know the Democrats are frothing at the mouth at the chance to pass the Orwellien Employee Free Choice Act, a bill to eliminate the secret ballot process required to unionize workplaces. So, this little bit of information should be thrown in their faces over and over again. From Politico: Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) has intervened in the fight between Reps. John Dingell (D-Mich.)
No worries on Compulsory Civil Service, folks: “Obama’s Call for Community Service Is Not Marxism”
Michelle Catalano, writing for Pajamas Media, explains: Is community service synonymous with slavery? Whether that service is mandated or suggested, could it in any way be construed as enslaving citizens? This week, an acquaintance noted the “irony†that college students would be required by a black president to do community service. She then pointed out the 13th Amendment. There were two things wrong with this statement. First, by the time
“Calif. Speaker’s solution for state deficit: U.S. taxpayers chip in billions”
From Top of the Ticket: Not that many people outside of California care, but according to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the state faces a nearly $25 billion budget deficit. As the rich man that he is, the former movie star favors everybody else helping out by making his state’s sales tax the No. 1 biggest, averaging 9.5%. According to the nonpartisan legislative analyst, Mac Taylor, the state’s deficit will actually be
Compulsory civil service
Well, then. It looks like they may actually be serious about this. Let’s call this what it is: a state-sanctioned confiscation of liberty that is being justified, through some Orwellian calculus, in the name of “what it means to be an American.” Which of course immediately should put one in mind of Lyndon Johnson, I’m told. (h/t Geoff B) More here and here.
Wanted: Men’s haircut suggestions
Got a video shoot coming up in about 3 weeks, so it’s time to get my haircut. Professionally, this time. My last 20 or 30 cuts I gave myself, often with clippers. Suggestions? I believe my face shape would be considered oblong or oval, and my hair right now is a little longer than medium length. With no discernible shape. I have a very slight natural curl/wave. Put links to
Well, it’s new to me…
I’d heard the Evan Thomas bit on Obama’s “slightly creepy cult of personality” before, but never in context. Still, for those of you who already have heard it, there’s a bit more to chew on here in Thomas’ comments to Charlie Rose. Not to mention, an opportunity for the august new “center-right” punditry to take Rush Limbaugh to task for his fraught suggestion, in his gloss on Thomas’ remarks, that
