It’s the title of a famous piece on King Lear, but also pertains to the story of the just-graduated high school cheerleaders, who, perhaps because the driver of the car going to the summer home of one of the girls’ parents, distracted by a text message from the following vehicle, crashed headlong into a truck and died. About 20 years ago in my hometown of Milwaukee, there was a spate of abductions of black lantern-bearing statuary from residences throughout the City and its environs.
