From The Telegraph:
Osama bin Laden’s deputy has seized control of al-Qaeda and rebuilt the terror network into an organisation capable of launching complex terror attacks in Britain and America.
Intelligence officials have told The Sunday Telegraph that bin Laden has not chaired a meeting of al-Qaeda’s ruling shura, or council, in more than two years.
Instead, Ayman al-Zawahiri, bin Laden’s nominal number two, is credited with rebuilding the terror network since the Afghan war in 2001.
Meanwhile, back in Anbar . . . Captain Ed has good news:
The US has captured the al-Qaeda terrorist who masterminded the assassination of the leader of Anbar Awakening. Intelligence following the murder pinned it on Fallah Khalifa Hiyas Fayyas al-Jumayli, who got captured outide of a town north of Baghdad:
US forces in Iraq say they have seized a suspected al-Qaeda militant believed to have been behind the killing last week of a Sunni tribal leader.
Abdul Sattar Abu Risha was killed in a bomb attack in the city of Ramadi, Anbar province, on Thursday. …The US military statement said Jumayli was also responsible for “car bomb and suicide vest attacks in Anbar province, and is closely allied with senior al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders in the region”.
American intel has Jumayli at the head of the AQI offensive against Anbar Awakening leaders.announced just yesterday. If true, that indicates that AQI has a real problem maintaining operational security. The ability to identify and locate Jumayli within hours of that threat and a couple of days after the assassination shows how effective anti-AQI intel has become.
Gee, you think that might be because Bin Laden assumed cave temperature a couple years back?
Bin Laden is dead.
– AQ in Iraq signed their own death warrents when they started going after Iraqi religious leaders, proving for the umpteenth time that more is always better, much like the Dems covert Left-wing this past week with the Patraeous debacle. Maybe the AQ leadership is getting its marching orders from Kos and Jane. The tactics certainly seem similar, echoing a keen understanding of razor edge diplomacy from both camps.
– Reffering to the Telegraph link, there is no new information in this artical what so ever, only a obvious admission by their own words that the Western think tanks are in a perpetual “shoot from the hip” guessing game concerning al Qaeda.
– They debunk one of their own earlier “guesses”. so what?
– AQ has “regrouped” in Pakistan. Who didn’t think that already, way back shortly after Tora Bora. Better yet, as long as they’re in Pakistan, who cares. Just as long as they stay there.
– We should not believe that AQ has been badly descimated. Ok. Since there’s nothing to go on, other than the steadily growing pile of AQ members bodies, I suppose they could be cloning as fast as we dispatch them. More guesses.
– Al Zawahri has replaced Usama. Again, an obvious guess since zero reasons are given for this contention.
– No sources are given for any of the comments. As usual.
– All of which begs the question of what the point of this entire piece of journo-fluff is trying to make. What it amplifies is that apparently most of the Western intelligence people, at least the ones that talk to the press, have no fucking clue, which we also already knew. It seems that its the first responders, wire tapping intercepts, and local law enforcement that are the only effective tools in fighting the WOT, and articals like this one proves it.
Big Bang – replicants, they’re using replicants. That’s how they can ‘make’ new terrorists as fast as the latest crop is destroyed. Replicants – wave of the future.
Though ‘fembots’ have #2’s seal of approval! They just don’t meet AQ Inc.’s needs. Now, a goat…
Dead men don’t chair suri.
Mikey – Remember, they were peaceful goat fuckers until GWB came along.
Congrats on the explosion by Brownies. Hope they did not shoot their wad all at once.
