North Korean Nukes Nuked in Syria? [Dan Collins]

That’s the scuttlebutt. A detailed, if speculative, analysis at the Times of London.

    Good news if true.

  2. ccoffer says:

    Praise be to God.

  3. Semanticleo says:

Andrew Semmel, a senior US State Department official, said Syria MIGHT HAVE OBTAINED nuclear equipment from “secret suppliers”, and added that there were a “number of foreign technicians” in the country.

Asked if they could be North Korean, he replied: “There are North Korean people there. There’s no question about that.” He said a network run by AQ Khan, the disgraced creator of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, COULD BE involved.”

Phew! For a minute I thought the Press had dropped the ball, again,
as they did in the runup to the Iraq War. It seems SOME PEOPLE think the Nuke agreement with Korea should be rescinded. Guess who that might be? I’ll leave that to your imagination, for now. Thank god FOX is on the story.

  4. B Moe says:

So what proof would you be satisfied with, cleo? A mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv, maybe?

  5. Rusty says:

That’s right, Semanticleo, always, always, assume the gun is unloaded. Please.

  6. Rob Crawford says:

Does Leo ever state a position, or just strike a pose?

Because I don’t see any actual statement in that post, just some quotes and a bunch of snark.

  7. Semanticleo says:

    Statements are what you want?

    Let the STORY tell itself.

“In other words, the Bush administration’s diplomatic policy will deliver the worst of all possible outcomes: a nuclear-armed North Korea sustained by Western economic aid. And the BBC calls that “realism.”

    http://www.aei.org/publications/pubID.26421,filter.all/pub_detail.asp

“Finally, we need to learn the details of North Korean nuclear cooperation with other countries. We know that both Iran and Syria have long cooperated with North Korea on ballistic missile programs, and the prospect of cooperation on nuclear matters is not far-fetched. Whether and to what extent Iran, Syria or others might be “safe havens” for North Korea’s nuclear weapons development, or may have already participated with or benefited from it, must be made clear.”

And this is where we must insist that whatever is left of the Bush administration draw its own line. Not if–but when–North Korea balks at real substance, we should insist not only on full compliance with existing Security Council sanctions, but the repudiation of the February 13 deal. Only then can we concentrate on the true solution: the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula, and the consequent end of the North. This alone will make Northeast Asia the “more congenial spot” we all say we want.

If the dearth of comments on this thread are an indication of anything, it is the crumbling base of opportunism that has driven
the pro-war blogs. The only hope is that the obfuscation of the Agenda Hounds of Baskerville have no credibility or standing on the issue of Iran, Syria et al. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons, I never thought any good would come of the clusterfuck known as Iraq, but this may be that thin optimism which brings poor golfers back to another round after just one good shot

  11. happyfeet says:

    How you talk.

  12. Merovign says:

    Leo’s off his meds again.

So, ignoring that last stream-of-semi-consciousness… thing… your basic point is that the enemy North Korea, whom we are embargoing, is trying to help Axis-of-Evil Runner Up Syria develop nuclear weapons, presumably in exchange for harem girls and some good hashish.

This is, of course, Bush’s fault, becuase, umm, he doesn’t use his magic wand to make them play nice?

Or was Bush supposed to give Lil Kim some harem girls and hashish instead. Or was Pelosi supposed to give Assad nukes?

    It’s a labyrinth, I tell ya.

Oh, and I’m supposed to be depressed because my opportunism is shattering the optimism that made my golf handicap low. Almost forgot that bit.

  13. Rusty says:

“This week, negotiators from six nations plan to meet in Beijing to discuss ways to disable North Korea’s nuclear reactor.” From the AP.
Yer a day late and a dollar short, son.

  14. Scrapiron says:

Any more questions about where ‘Saddams’ nuclear equipment went? It’s been known since before the invasion that it was in Syria or Lebanon, or both. 2 + 2 still = 4 even is liberals nightmare. N.C. is just helping them set it up and learn how to use it, and use it they will it they get a chance. Time for a carpet bombing campaign, 24-7 for about 60 days. The B-52H is old but still reliable. I worked on them starting in 1964 and the Big Ugly Friendly F****R (BUFF) is as ugly and mean as ever.

If the dearth of comments on this thread are an indication of anything, it is

    …our still-functioning sense of smell.

  16. Drumwaster says:

but this may be that thin optimism which brings poor golfers back to another round after just one good shot

Or liberals back to Vietnam after just one good American defeat. (C’mon, Leo, you KNOW that’s what you really want…)

  17. Jeffersonian says:

Remember, boys and girls, there’s no international issue so intractable that America’s removal from the the scene won’t improve it. Kim? Ahminijihad? Chavez? Leave ’em alone and they’ll come home, wagging their isotopes behind them.

  18. JD says:

Semenkkkleo appears to have been dropping turdlets today. The next rational point it makes will be its first.

The Leftist view to assume that the gun is unloaded, and the person holding it to your head can be reasoned with, is fucking dangerous.

  19. Rob Crawford says:

    Statements are what you want?

It’s still a random assortment of quotes from a group you apparently dislike. What do you think? What’s your conclusion? Insinuation is not argument, and your inability to state a position of your own makes me wonder if you actually have one.

  20. JD says:

Rob – No need to wonder. When in doubt, Semen’s point is that wingnuts are ractist warmongers who started an illegal war to line the pockets of their cronies.

  21. JD says:

    Let the STORY tell itself.

Do not get in the way of The Narrative.

  22. Semanticleo says:

“wingnuts are ractist warmongers who started an illegal war to line the pockets of their cronies.”

There you go. You actually said something that has a foundation of truth. Keep at it. But, don’t get carried away with your version of the facts.

Like I said. Next time get here early and bring money. Yer an embarrasment.

  24. JD says:

Semen – You make alphie and PIATOR appealling.

  25. JD says:

Semen – Your PRE traumatic stress disorder appears to be acting up. Check your meds.

    Cleo blathered:

If the dearth of comments on this thread are an indication of anything, it is

…that Cleo is miffed because people are figuring out her game and ignoring her, so she tries to declare the silence as a sign of victory.

Typical troll tactics. (As someone said before: I’m not answering Cleo, I’m mocking her. Nuance.)

  27. Semanticleo says:

“figuring out her game and ignoring her,”

It’s the game where you have no response because your arguments
lack the sand for discourse. Pity WingNut Nation

  28. Patrick Chester says:

Translation: “NOOOOOOOOOO!! Pay attention to meeeeeeeeeeeeee…”

(Still mocking. Though it looks like the Cleo-bot’s starting to feed off of that too so perhaps I should desist for now. Nuance.)
